  You post is helpful, but in this instance since she felt a pop in her elbow....it sounds like a ligament / joint issue. Whereas with a cervical nerve "pinch" it would likely be a radiating pain. But none the less the doctor should probably direct her to a neurologist to make sure there aren't underlying issues....sounds like there isn't an issue there though.
  
  KLS...the 6 weeks won't be complete non-use of the elbow....just no lifting...wearing a brace, etc...

  Well without doing a full exam on you I'd say surgery is sounding like a strong possibility.
  
  If the cortical / steroid shots only helped for 3 days...that's not good...that means you have some severe inflammation going on in the joint. Nothing to get too worked up about, it is an indicator of your injury.
  
  While Satanus' comment of: There is this stuff that a lot of wieght lifters take for joints. It's called glucosamine. All drug stores sell it. I haven't tried it myself, but it is popular. Also, maybe some natural antiinflamitories, like ginger, a daily dose of aspirin (85mg). But, avoid the suppositories.
  His/Her advice is ok but...this would be for everyday osteo / arthritis not an acute injury like yours.
  
  Depending on the injury the small incision needed, you would heal very quickly. But you would need to keep the arm immobilized for a good 6 weeks.
  
  But you should not be living in pain. Tell the doc's your meds are not touching your pain and you need something stronger. Without sleep you can't heal. And I'm not a big proponent of pain meds as I know what long term exposure to them due to the nervous system but there is no reason to be in pain losing sleep.
  
  So I'd get to the doctor and discuss the alternatives, medical recommendations he suggests...let me know how it turns out.

  since the jw religion is sooooo restrictive, it is good to think about just how wacky this cult is.....for example, you can get counseled for buying a 2 door car as opposed to a "pioneer" car (4 door).

  Well just keep in mind this medical opinion is worth what you are paying for it ;) I'm a neurologist / surgeon.... meaning I work on nerves and the brain.
  
  Nerve damage would be tingling in your arm....numbness....possibly radiating pain into your fingers?
  
  Ok, the Tylenol 3 is a low grade opiod. There are stronger pain meds available if you need them. So you are saying the pain is constant.... doesn't matter what kind of movement you make, time of day etc.... it seem to always "just hurt"? How bad is that pain? On a scale of 1 to 10... one being minor 10 being EXCRUITIATING. Maybe a 7?
  
  The support sleeve that Satanus mentioned may be effective, but given your statements I'm not sure. So you've had 2 cortical / steriod shots? Were they effective at all? Even for only a couple of weeks???

  Ok, I'm of the opinion you need a little more medical advice before you continue. Couple of things. Do you have nerve damage that you know of? Numbness, tingling, etc.... Also, when you say it "rotted" do you mean atrophied?
  
  Painkillers? What are you taking? Just NSAID's ie, Advil, or you taking Opiods like Vicodin, oxycodone. On a scale of 1 to 10 how bad is the pain during the day? At night? Sharp stabbing pain? Dull throbbing pain?
  
  I assume the pain is mainly laterally? Meaning if you held your arm out in front of you "like you were getting a blood sample taken" it hurts if someone tries to move your lower arm left to right not up and down?
