  Do you think a 7 and 9 year old kid should have a cell phone?

  okay...so many of you know that i have two stepdaughters....great kids, 7 and 9. currently they are living with us.

  now, when they, or one of them is with their mom, it is like pulling teeth to get her to answer the phone or call back when we leave a message to talk to the girls.

  there was one period of time that my husband went almost 10 months without getting to talk to his oldest daughter when she was with her mom.

  Rotator Cuff Injury (???)

  looks like medical advice day @ jwd.... does anyone know about rotator cuff injuries?.

  symptoms?.

  either or is fine.... If it was my injury I would probably seek out a sports med doctor to start with since they tend to see more joint issues.

  Rotator Cuff Injury (???)

  Aude, it's been two weeks with no let up in pain....it's time to see the doctor.
  
  Your pain when using it laterally sounds common to RC issues.
  
  Bikerchic...you mentioned Chiros... but yours was for an "overuse" issue, not a tear or strain. Chiros and other alternative treatments are an ok alternative to try instead of surgery, but in any acute injury they can actually CAUSE more damage than they help. I go to a chiropracter myself....SSHH, don't tell anyone.... but it's more of a physical therepy situation. I have blown out my own C6 / C7 disk...so know what that's like.
  
  This injury is a slow healing one due to the small amount of blood flow. Injuries just take a long time to heal. 3 months to 9 months, very, very typical. But Aude, you will more than likely (95%) be referred to physical therepy before any surgery. A minimum of 6 weeks probably, so it's not like you will have to face a decision to get surgery in the next week.
  
  As I have mentioned before this IS NOT my area of practice. Just a Dr.'s feedback ok?
  
  Classicist....pain meds are level 2 and 3 controlled substances (in the US & I believe Canada as well). The DEA constantly monitors doctors for abuses. So patients...be VOCAL about your pain and forceful in asking for pain meds if your doctor isn't giving you enough to dull the pain. This helps our butts with the DEA when/if they audit our patient records. As a rule you get started on a lower dose med or a Tylenol 3 product first. The abuses of a few hundred people abusing Oxycontin have caused us nightmares in writing scipts for pain meds of all class 2 and 3 meds.

  Tennis elbow

  doc says that is what is in store for me after having the cortisone shots that were worthless.

  Well thank you all for the vote of "no evil".
  
  I developed this moniker when I was always told...going off to college is selfish.... blah, blah...
  
  My mother would always tell me I was being evil...so Evil + a little Star Wars and you get Evil Force.
  
  Fairy.... endoscopic surgeries are quite easily perfomed and quite successful for many "joint" issues. The entry incision is only about 1/4" of an inch. 2 stitches and good as new. A pain blocker for the procedure no need to be put under.... a big plus.
  
  I do remember reading a paper in JAMA or somewhere last year on Shock Wave Ultrasound for treatment of "tennis elbow". Not sure if you have tried this or heard of this, but maybe an alternative to your current treatments.
  
  Please keep in mind this IS NOT my area of specialty so am not advocating a line of treatment.....but to give you some input :)
