My father will lose his privileges if he attends my sister's wedding
by Goldminer inmy sister is planning on getting married within the next few months.her jw husband committed adultery and left her when their son was 7 weeks old.after getting a scriptural divorce she began a friendship with a "worldly" man and now this friendship has grown to a soon-to-be marriage.
this man studied with the jw's for a while but could see right through them found too many of their teachings didn't make sense so he stopped studying.he's made his stand with my sister and told her she can still attend meetings if she wants to.he's also a good worker and seems to really love the kids.he's not perfect but no worse than many jw husbands.
anyways, the elders pulled my dad aside on tuesday night and told him he could(could????!@#*?

Throwing rice = pagan but bad
Just Married Can Behind Vehicle (used to be horse carriage) = pagan, but ok
As of my ex's said...the JW's are one of the cruelest religions he's ever laid eyes on. Mentally cruel. Emotionally cruel. Spiritually cruel. -

I hate living with effing psycho parents
by tsunami_rid3r ini have a mom who would rather me not go to college, keep me locked up in the house, and just serve jehovah.
i have a weak dad, instead of her being subjected to him, he's subjected to her.
he's on my side on most of the part but he's just weak on setting her straight.

Well I can relate to the whole haircut thing....it's just plain stupid. Ask them where in the bible Jesus talked about hair length?
But I can't believe they are going to let you go to prom. THIS WAS A HUGE NO NO in my congo when I was in High School. Anyone who goes to prom automatically fornicates therefore you cannot go.
My parents gave me NOTHING for college....nor would sign any student loan crap. So I worked and paid my way thru school. It was hard and it sucked but don't think you can't do it. So if they are going to pay your way thru school...think of getting a haircut as "services rended" to get the cash. -

In my opinion dumping a hall or moving should be a LAST resort, not a first option. I know a lot of families make their decisions on where to live based on how close the KH is. Besides that if it is serving it's purpose why get rid of it? Make a remodeling or expand the parking lot etc...
The new halls are completely boring and about as architechually interesting as a WalMart. This is so they can be built fast and cheap. It sounds like an elder got a bug up his shorts to just move so he could manage a building project.
My advice to you, is to just go to the Unitarian Church instead. I find their services to be interesting and informative than any JW meeting :) -

There was a position paper I read from an NYU study about a year ago. It was reprinted I believe in the New York TImes about a year ago....
But a couple of interesting things in that article that it said...the longer you go before you meet in the "real world" the higher the chances of success of a long term relationship. If I remember it correctly it was if you went 4 to 6 months before meeting you had a significant better chance to develop into a long term dealio.
My honey and I emailed, chatted via phone, and letters for 4 years before meeting. It was like having this voice in the darkness I could tell my problems to without any judgements and condemnation. He didn't know any of my b/f's or real world friends so I felt comfortable telling him all my deep, dark, secrets. I think he felt the same way about me. So when we both found ourselves single yet living across the country from each other we figured...oh well it's been 4 years let's just hang out as friends.
Since that time it has been 2 1/2 years. We are getting married in that radical Soviet Canuckistan...also known as Toronto, in 12 days :)
So for us it has been a success. I knew my baby from the inside first then saw the outside. I am truly a lucky and blessed individual.
SO GO FOR IT I SAY!!! -

I have learned to take a minute and smell the roses. To look for the positive things in life and people instead of always jump to the negative. This is still an on=going learning experience since 22 + years of always looking for the negative is not easy to purge.
I think of how negative as a Witness I used to be and talk about all the horrible things going on in the world. But there is MUCH MORE positive things going on.
And I'm with GBL....I don't know Jack shite. -

There is alot of sentimental value to the building. True, buildings are just wood and stone, that does not mean we can just forget about them when they are full of memories.
The BUILDINGS are not full of memories. You brain is full of memories. The buildings have nothing to do with the good memories of the things that happened inside them. The halls do not become hallowed ground as such. So I think you are being a bit sentimental.
Not that there's anything wrong with that but it is a building with 4 walls and a roof and in no way shape or form BRINGS you or anyone happiness. It facilitates those memories and feelings.
