As all JW rules are selectively enforced.
Some CO's / DO's take the stand of "Does it affect the message being given?" No - let it be. But these guys are in the minority. Most of them are self absorbed and think that whatever they think is right is the God's truth.

Gumby,
Exactly...
Fundies get so wrapped up in their argument they miss the point. So if I prescribe Vicodin to a patient to control pain it is a synthetic opoid... meaning opium. But to prescribe a pill or other form of THC whether smoking it or swallowing it is vile. A drug, is a drug, is a drug.
If any drug is misused... it is wrong, whether it be wacky weed, alcohol, prescription drugs, recreational drugs etc....
Drug Limbaugh amonst other miss use pain killers all the time. So should we ban their use too?!? -

"Never was concerned about his destination, only about the trip."
by Schizm innow here's a unique way of expressing a person's idea of going to heaven:
obituary says: "mr. matlock was never concerned about his destination, only about the trip.
jim's concerns were put to rest as he passed very peacefully at home surrounded by his family.

Well Dan that certainly is "cutting to the chase"...
But do you have "Conversation Stoppers" that you can help us with regarding that tactic?

It also taught me a valuable lesson....
On one hand they would tell young people to put Jehovah first, not get married, stay single, and go out in field service. (I was putting in between 10 and 12 hours a month on top of everything else going on.) But if they took this advice they'd get pulled into a meeting and comments like "We know when we were your age WE were interested in girls? Aren't you seeing someone now? Are you sexually frustrated?"
Oh, also another JC matter I got pulled into....
I was 18 at the time and on vacation. The BOE told me I needed to come home immediately as the matter couldn't wait for 4 more days. They wanted to ask me about an acquaintence who was sleeping with a friend of mine's mother?!? I was like I know NOTHING about this. So this person I only knew cursory was bagging a good friend of mine's MOM?!? He was like 19 she was 35 or something. I said "You called me home for this?!?" You couldn't have simply asked me via the phone if I knew ANYTHING about it? Of course the didn't believe me that I didn't know anything about it....bizzarre. Wow, a memory I had forgotten.... -

Yes, I had been spending an awful lot of time around the family dog.... beastiality as if that's a huge problem. UGH.
No, my other roomate who was a Jo Ho at the time as well got pulled into a meeting right before mine. After we both got out we compared notes and they asked the same sick questions. They were simply on a witch hunt. They had said "We hear you guys have huge parties, with lots of alchol involved".
I was like, "Um I work 30 hours a week, take 15 to 18 credit hours at college, plus do JW stuff", like I have any time at all. My roomate worked 80 hours a week. And the other roomie was never around. We honestly didn't party because I would never party around Jo Ho's anyway because of getting busted.
So since I was only making 2 of the meeting per week instead of 3 I obviously was up to something satanic, evil, and pleasurable. They were trying to assert their control over me. -

The usual failed prescrition.
More field service, more prayer, attend all meetings, not allow himself to be alone. -

Guns and JWs
by VM44 indid the watchtower society ban jw's from owning handguns for self defence?.
if they did, when did they issue the ban?.
didn't some of jesus's apostles carry a sword when the group traveled, to protect agains wild animals and human thieves?

Well the thread topic was do they ban guns...
No it seems to be a selectively enforced rule if at all. I'm sure most Dub's aren't advocating to the elders that they would shoot someone dead if they broke into the house, but I'm sure some feel this way.
I would consider the JW's stance on blood a ban. As, they will enforce this rule 95% of the time. Guns...less than 10% so is it a ban. No. -

As with everything in life there is no concrete answer Gumby.
All drugs affect people differently. So a daily joing to some person's physiology would be ok, whereas to someone else's can overwhelm the nervous system.
Smoking daily will cause lung cancer like cigarettes. Drinking a few glasses of wine everyday will hurt your liver. Will one glass a day hurt? Not most people, but some will be overwhelmed by this. Asian psysiology is unique when it comes to metabolising alcohol, and for that matter dairy products.
So moderation is a "tough" issue to define. Generally if you can go 6 weeks without a substance...without ill effect, night sweats, etc. Or for that matter even missing it. You are probably ok. I have seen some alcoholics that go 6 weeks without using it "to prove" to themselves that they can. They then reason...well I didn't drink for 6 weeks, I'm fine, and then go on a month long bender.

I have my doubts about the WTS being correct on that call.
These are the types of statements that help me believe you are trying to be sincere :)
