BEING SICK IS FOR THE RICH
by Dansk indear all,.
please allow me to vent off a little this morning.. as most of you will already know i have a rare form of cancer - mantle cell lymphoma - for which the prognosis is extremely poor (but there have been some people who have gone a good many years beyond the average).
i live in the uk where, not being a person of wealth, i depend heavily on the national health service (nhs).

Ok before the lynchings begin let me please point out that Dansk is talking about ALTERNATIVE options. NOT MEDICAL care. He poignantly said that the medical professionals have been very good to him but he is lamenting having to pay for herbs, homeopathy, and whatnot.
I just wanted to clarify who he was lamenting about. So make sure to carry on your rants against the ALTERNATIVE health care industry please :)
Dansk...I'm sure you are researching and evaluating these procedures already...but make sure that you are spending your $$$ with the intent of getting a decent shot at sucess. My thoughts are with you. -

Are You Happy With Your Life???
by minimus inbasically, are you happily single, married, divorced, separated?
do you wish that your life could be happier?
do you believe that life sucks and then you die, anyway?

I love my life. I wouldn't change a thing.
Does that mean I'm in some orgasmic happy state 100% of the time? No. But I feel that western religion has taught us that somehow we are supposed to be happy, content, and blissful all the time. This isn't logical nor realistic.
One of the main issues I have with the Dubs is that they preach that if you can just hold on long enough in this miserable existence that your life will be cured in paradise. You will not have a single bad day....life will be a buffet of happiness. You will not shed a tear. Everything will be perfect. Come on! They do nothing to help their members deal with TODAY'S issues. Live in the moment, plan for the future, learn from the past.
The Dub's attract people who feel that suffering somehow justifies their action. They feel that if they suffer for God now, the payoff will be great down the road. What these people don't realize is that when you are miserable your whole life, thinking to yourself...."Once I get there I will be happy" is not going to happen. You must teach yourself how to be happy in the moment. Yes, you can teach yourself how to enjoy life here and now. Puritanical pursuits are not going to gain you anything. One thing I think is helpful to being happy is to learn acceptance. As the Tao says:
The Way takes no action, but leaves nothing undone.
When you accept this
The world will flourish,
In harmony with nature.
Nature does not possess desire;
Without desire, the heart becomes quiet;
In this manner the whole world is made tranquil. -

I love red! I'm also in the market for a new car and am probably going to buy a car this week when I get 5 spare moments. But the car I'm thinking about getting doesn't come in red. I'm thinking pearlised white or obsidian metallic black.

To IT and computer geeks
by littlerockguy ini am not an it person per se but i do a hellaceous amount of typing and i cannot stand brand new cheaply made keyboards that are now on the market.
i prefer the old ibm clicky clack keyboards.
i take my old ibm keyboard whereever i work since i can type up a storm on it; something i really have a hard time doing with newer keyboards.

Wow... $149 for a keyboard. Little....see if your employer will buy it. Cite carpal tunnel issues :)

How the Watchtower Perverts Compassion
by metatron inthis what jesus said about mercy (matt.

The really sick thing is that most JW's would consider themselves to be in the top 1% of compassionate people when in reality they show no compassion at all.

I sincerely doubt the WTBS could pass an audit whereby over 90% of their income goes to "good works". Folks like CARE (92% to the actual cause), Doctors Without Borders (86% to actual cause), and Feed the Children (92% to actual cause) have independent audits done to assure people that their donations are being used correctly and not simply used to send out more junk mail for appeals. To see a report on your fav charity you can go to evaluation sites such as: http://www.charitynavigator.org for research.
I would challenge the WTBS to open their books and show where they spend the money. NOT ON GOOD WORKS I CAN ASSURE YOU. It is spent on administration and junk magazine appeals to grow the ranks (meaning grow the subscriber base).
While the WTBS may not be "huge" as far as donations go.....they spend virtually NOTHING on traditional good work, so all the monies they bring in simply would be considered "waste" by independent auditors. -

Triathletes? Anyone?
by Princess ini was surprised at the number of people who popped in with running advice for vitty.
i didn't realize we had so many runners on board here.
i'm getting ready for my first triathlon next month and find myself wondering if we have any triathletes around here..... i have wanted to complete a tri ever since i ran the 1/2 marathon portion on a tri relay 1/2 ironman in 2003. i've shied away from them because the swim totally freaks me out.

Mega....after my tri I decided the beer-a-thon was a better idea...LOL

You've biked double 100's??? In one day?
The most I've biked in one day was 121 miles over Xmas last year on vacation and I was beat afterwards. I stick with biking and surfing now. Neither one seem like "work" to me. I find running in a gym or swimming in a pool to feel like "work" and not enjoyable.
But kudos to you for your training. I'm a bit like you. I always have goals for personal fitness that I need in front of me to keep me going. While I also have to be mindful of being happy today...... I find myself from time to time burying me head down powering thru something and forgetting to enjoy the process. I think that's some left over Dub'isms. Knuckle down, paradise will be here shortly.
