I'm surprised that not one of the names mentioned in this thread rings a bell. There a tons of ex-COs and DOs down here in Florida - this is a popular retirement place! The last one I know of is Mario Beltrami. Funny thing, he was our CO many times (in different states) before we came here - when he was put out to pasture down here, he didn't have the foggiest memory of us! oh well.

making my will should I include my child that has shuan me for years
by jam inthe years have pass and so has my age, so lately i have been thinking, should i add my daughter in.
since i have seen or talk to her.have not seen my grand-daughter the youngest.
the oldest i saw her over 10yrs ago..i feel my grand kids should know where they came from.. i do not have a lot to leave for my kids, i have four, the other three i have a good relationship...but.

If your heart moves you to include them in the will, then do it. However, I would caution you to not leave them something that you know they would not value, i.e. you mentioned Viet-Nam medals. There is a good possibility that their "christian trained conscience" would not allow them to have something like that in the house and they'd dispose of it. Personal items should be treasured by the ones you share them with. Just my 2 cents.

Who Or What Influenced You The Most To Get Out Of The Religion?
by minimus infor me, i think it was time and the realization of the idiocy of the beliefs and man made doctrines.
i just couldn't ignore it any longer..

- Like OTWO, I sat in stunned amazement at the DC where they disclosed the new understanding of the generation.
- Having to explain to my children things I felt in my heart were wrong.
- Being overwhelmed with life (wife, mother of 4, caring for my mother, etc.) and needing to lighten my load.
- I finally decided to give myself permission to ask the questions I had - and then find the answers to them.
- Finding the answers to my questions left me with no choice!

Jehovah Witnesses are NOT a bad Cult but man made type spiritual guide
by Butterflyleia85 inwhen i was a jehovah's witness i remember these debates being mentioned about the raps of innocent children that elders commented, the blacks and whites segregation, the crosses and christmas tree in the bethal, etc.
jehovah's witnesses have always been harassed for these things.
with the changing world and knowledge of the scriptures they work hard to try to work towards accurateness.

Ok everyone be gently with Butterfly, she's new here!
Here's what I've said in the past. I like myself - I think I'm a good person - I'm moral, law-abiding, friendly and have good character...and I credit being a JW with influencing those traits in me. I don't want to take that away from the organization. They do teach a good groundwork for understanding the difference between good and bad, and encouraging good behaviour in their members. But I think I could have learned that same lesson had I been a member in ANY other religion. It was my willingness to be a "good" person that made me a "good" person. I guess what they refer to as someone who is "honest hearted."
That being said, I came to recognize that the WBTS wasn't being as honest as they pretend to be; and it was that dishonesty that led to me leaving them. I take away with me, however, the lessons I learned - I threw out the dishonest ones and choose to keep the core values of goodness and love. I don't expect the organization's light to get brighter. I do, however, hold out hope that others (like you and me) will recognize the BS for what it is and leave.

Do you have many friends since leaving the bOrg?
by AK - Jeff ini don't have many in my physical sphere.
but the ones i have are good ones.
of course we share no 'history', since i never had a 'worldly' friend until i left at 48.. in my cyberworld [and some would argue the credence of that] i have found many fine souls with which to commiserate, share, grow.

Ok, I'll be the first to say - Yes, I miss them (with a caveat). I don't miss the fake meeting smiles and hugs from people that I only saw on meeting days. After all, if we really liked each other, we'd get together personally outside of the meetings (or at least call). But I do miss the close friends that I had from childhood. I miss sharing time with people who knew me . . . forever! We can't play the "remember when" game. My hubbie has that - his 2 closest friends are still in his life (1 is still in and 1 is out). I have friends now - women I admire and trust - but it's not the same - we lack history!

Unloaded on the husband of my wife's study sister last night, how much damage did I do to myself??
by insearchoftruth inwell had a really good weekend away from home, but i guess i knew that the respite from the wts would end.
tuesdays are the day my wife has her personal bible study with the sister and she has also had the husband come over on tuesday afternoons so the son can have the pleasure of a bible study (which he loathes, he is a high school junior and has no interest in this stuff).
i get home from work late, after a fairly long day and the guy is still there.

I've been off the board for a while and just popped on to see what was new. The FIRST thing that comes to mind after reading this thread is you must do whatever you can to protect your marriage!!! Forewarn your wife that the people in the congregation will try to make you look bad and undermine your marriage. Did you notice the info that Blondie posted? They'll show that to her and pressure her to disregard your input. Again, I don't know your history - but I imagine you came here to learn about what to do because you felt a divide at home starting. It was the best thing you could have done! The next thing is let your wife know you love her and support her and don't want to see your marriage threatened by an outside source (even a religion). I'll be sure to check back on you. Good luck!
