Nah you did just brilliantly. Nothing in the world would mean more to him than his son, and now he has to acknowledge that. He will never forget this day, and it's likely that his son will also always remember it.

Surely the WT wouldn't LIE about motel/hotel accommodations?!?
by RisingEagle ini was eating lunch with 3/4 of my active jw family earlier today and they were bemoaning the idea that they were going to have to leave the central oklahoma area very early tomorrow morning to find a room so they could attend an assembly on the otherside of the state.
they had tried calling the 'approved' hotels and motels in the town where the assembly is being held and they were all booked.
so that left them looking at the rest of the approved list and having to travel as much as 50 miles away to get a room.

Are your family in a poor-quality room? Actually, best not to rub it in; for all I know you're in a difficult situation already anyway.
International conventions: yep the extraordinary price would be to cover the fare and room for the Bethelites who are travelling on your ticket. Any time I've arranged a big travel group I've been offered my place for free, and I've spread the discount over the people going. The extraordinary expense of any bethel-organised international convention tour is to cover the additional cost of subsidising many bethel hangers-on. What a privilege!

Indeed. I just try to avoid saying anything that validates their position or hints at something they're desperate for; they want the respect and admiration of outsiders for 'taking a stand' and they actually think they have it. The easiest way to disarm my parents is to tell them what Mr Frass and his family think of the way my siblings treat me.
But that wasn't the question here and in a situation like this I shouldn't be worrying the bride with semantics. Deliver the invitation, smile, be cheerful, leave. If they tell you they won't be there, smile, thank them for the rsvp, tell them it's a shame that they made that decision but you know that there's nothing you can do to change their mind, and end the conversation. When they want out, let them out. They want us to beg them to stay. To do that you'd need to want them to.

Help with Jw friend
by Budda ini want to tell you about my friend who is a jw.
my first impression of her was a gorgeous, nice, and intelligent woman.
after a few weeks i could tell we were both attracted to each other and even one of my friends was hinting we should get together.

Sweet of you to care; but every JW has to make their own way out. Any external prodding actually drives them deeper in.

I'm sorry you won't be able to attend, but I respect your choice
... everything but 'I respect your choice'. Nobody would respect their choice.

I had never thought about it until my husband told me how much he resented never being given the choice; because he'd have chosen not to. I had always thought it's just what you do to little boys, and then he pointed out that that's what people think of little girls in the congo. That made me shudder. Mr Frass says he'd have gotten the hang of personal hygiene.
Cleanliness in the tropics: what about the rest of us who don't live in the tropics?

Well Hello
by RichieRich ini've received several messages from friends about posting an update here.
it is true there are people here who care for/ about me, and it doesn't take too much time out of my day to just post a litte update, so i figured i would.
i heard from a little birdy with a big nose that my name has been mentioned once or twice around here, and that prompted me to stick my nose in.

A JW just visited
by sass_my_frass insaturday morning, long weekend = partly inevitable.
i saw them around the corner so had a few minutes to prepare my thoughts, and i got a lone guy in his thirties doing a magazine presentation.
his mags were about world unity so he asked if i thought that mankind will ever unite and i said 'yes absolutely, i think that we're growing, i'm looking forward to it'.

There's no way of knowing exactly what is going to reach any particular JW, and I think that we only get one shot. I was probably a little too mysterious to that guy, in a way that he'd work out that there's much more to my story than what I'd said. Frankly I don't give much of a stuff - he's an adult with a full set of intellectual tools and I'm not his mum. I delivered my lines and got him out of my face.
I'm glad that we have here the freedom for people to hang onto whatever delusion fits them best. I pity them, but not enough to make a life of converting people.
