Were You Pressured To Get Baptized?
by minimus inmost persons, imo, are pressured to get baptized.
they are told they "should be ready".
children are made to feel that jehovah will not protect them any longer at a certain age.

yes, on july 17th, 1970, my wife and i were baptized as jws at the "men of good will" district assembly (convention today), at the oakland, california coliseum - where the raiders play.
nearly 70,000 attended, and over 750 were baptized ... and it all made the news in the san francisco chronicle & examiner and other newspapers and radio stations.

Ones I remember from the 60s were much like Blonde described. They didn't think much of Rutherford, one or two remembered Russlle with fondness and didn't appear to be to much impressed with the then WTS leadership. Their attitude was we all have a job to do, lets have fun doing it.

In Texas where there's water, there's these guys. I've never had a close encounter with one. My encounters have mostly been with copperheads and the occasional rattler.
http://www.encyclopedia.com/html/w1/watermoc.asp
water moccasin Related: Vertebrates
or cottonmouth, highly venomous snake , Ancistrodon piscivorus, of the swamps and bayous of the S United States. Like the closely related copperhead, it is a pit viper and has a heat-sensitive organ for detecting warm-blooded prey. The young are born live. The young snake is a pale reddish brown with transverse dark brown bands edged with white; as it ages the colors dull to a blotched olive or brown and then to an unmarked olive or blackish in old specimens. The maximum length is 6 ft (2 m), the average from 3 to 4 ft (90-120 cm). A good climber, the water moccasin often relaxes on branches overhanging the water. If startled it erects its head and shows the white interior of its mouth—hence the name cottonmouth. It eats both warm-blooded and cold-blooded animals. It is aggressive in the wild state but may become quite tame in captivity. It is classified in the phylum Chordata , subphylum Vertebrata, class Reptilia, order Squamata, family Crotalidae

Swarmed by bumbelbees twice...stung by red wasps, yellow jackets, red ants and fire ants many times. Several times by scorpions, tree asps. Bitten by ticks, chiggers and mosquitos. Several dog bites. Clawed by cats(when attempting to put them outside). Have had copperheads strik at my boots. Never horse bit, but one did snatch the hat from my head along with some hair. Last, but not least, was charged by a Black Angus cow, now that was scary. I am a walking disaster in the outdoors.

Has anyone else ever wondered about.........
by t297crazy inhi i have been reading everyone's posts for a few days.
i've been away from being jw for about 10 years, but only recently has it occured to me what a bunch of crap the whole thing is... i am still young, and so therefore it seems odd to me that all of my family are strong jw's.
especially my dad he was an elder), who i always associated with being a very intelligent person.

My dad went back after twenty years. Stunned me. I couldn't explain it, to myself or my family. Tore my daughter up, to this day she talks about it wanting an answer. Don't have one. People attach themselves to all manner of goofy idealogies and religions. Been like that for ages. There is no easy why.

Would you go to a funeral at the Kingdom Hall?
by Dustin inso my brother and i have been having talks about what will happen when our dad passes away eventually.
most of his brothers and sisters have died in their 50's or early 60's.
i flat out refuse to attend any part of the service that would be done at the kingdom hall.

I went to my father's service. Frist time I'd been in a hall in twenty years. They all lined up after the talk and shook our hands. There were five or so J's that knew me from Ft. Worth and chatted it up a bit. One old brother, whom I was surprised to see alive, asked me when I was coming back. I said never. He giggled and moved along. It lasted about twenty minutes. I was nice, they were nice, except the jackass who had been dad's pioneer partner. He cornered me in the parking lot and demanded I return all of dad's WT books. I stopped being nice and he decided he had a pressing engagment elswhere. That was the only fly in the pudding.
My daughter wanted to know why they did that or why they did this, why, why, why. I told her to forget it. It's what my dad wanted. What ever you do, you'll do the right thing, for yourself. That's all that matters.
