how many here have been a jw since the 70's or before?......80's on?

born into dubland in 1960 (special pio dad and reg pio mom)

baptized in 1978 so i could marry a loser dub (my heart was NEVER into it)

divorced (officially) 1983

remarried to an even BIGGER loser/violent dub in 1986

divorced (officially) 1997

met the love of my life at work 7/2002

stopped attending 2003

boyfriend moved in 7/2004

officially wrote DA letter last week after being confronted by two hard liner elders about my "living situation"

thought i was doing the right thing for my two kids all these years (received zero child support from loser dubs)

now they're grown i have BIG regrets, oh well.

back when i was in high school i was in deca...i won national trophies for public speaking.......upon gradrution...i was offerd a scolarship to a major college....for public speaking.....but the elders conveinced me to go into the pioneer service...i did a dead end job to cover expenses...and it became my permant job when i got married a copule of years later.....with no college...and almost no help to find another job...to rake care of my wife and three kids...i feel i might have thrown my life away....well onr good thing about being on dialsys is ill get an education.donald

yep definitely a sore spot with me (and my younger sister). we were both raised in the "truth" and our dad was a TOTAL hard-liner when it came to college. . .and everything else. it's funny being in your 40s and surrounded by managers in their 20s and 30s because they actually HAD an education. although i scored tops in the SATs (i'm not sure why i took the SAT; just herded into the room w/ every other student), i dutifully explained that i could not go to college to my guidance counselor, who just sat there with his jaw wide open.

on the other hand; today's "college education" is probably equivalent to the 70's 8th grade education from what i can see. (of course, employers NEVER take THAT into consideration)

your average counter help at mcdonalds with a two year degree in liberal arts wouldn't know how to count back change should the register malfunction.

it certainly has been "dumbed down."

i have already posted bits and bobs about my "story"... i like the companionship i have found here and i feel it about time i get this off my chest, so here it goes.

i am a 20 year old montrealer (it is me above!

) who was brought up a witness from the day i was born.

Same story here just like you except you had the kahunas not to run to some whack job witness dude instead as a poor substitution (like me and a couple others here). good luck!

Would you change your past if you could?

i used to live with many regrets, thinking that i'd screwed up.

recently, i've been thinking that regretting past actions is not constructive.

sure, we should base our current actions by assessing the results of our former actions, but regretting decisions we've made is, in effect, yearning to change the person we are now or rejecting ourselves.

don't get down adelmaal; i worked contract and temp jobs for 7 years and just recently got hired at a "real" job!!

so for 7 whole years i had no benefits, no health insurance; no vacation.

i'm planning to hold on to this one for dear life!!!!

i concur. tonight my boyfriend has visitation with his kids, 8, 6 and 2 (VERY active kids; i must add; i often thought there would be NO way those kids would sit for 15 minutes straight at a KH let alone 2 hours)

order some pizza and watch kids movies; then make dinner for me and sweety, some wine, drinks and hot lovin'

Did You Hate Meetings and Special Events?

i really hated "special" programs and events such as a visiting bethelite giving an extra 1 hour talk after the wt.

everyone was expected to stay.

yep. same ol' same ol'. but do you remember "repetition for emphasis" and the "reminders, orders" even imbedded into the kingdom songs? the only thing i liked was the singing; which i love. i've always wanted to be into singing and professional chorus (but wasn't allowed as a school girl; too WORLDLY!)
