Apostasy - A Racist Movement?

firpo carr argues that while many white apostates claim to highlight so-called 'racist' remarks and terminology in the watchtower literature, most such apostates are in fact white and have little real interest in black issues.

they are only interested in the issue in so far as they can use it to promote white anti-witness propaganda, whereas a high percentage of loyal witnesses are black.

i know that all the terms of my topic are debatable: apostacy is a witness term of derogation; apostates probably are mostly liberal and not racist (essentially); and they are not a 'movement' in any case.

I see nothing but idiocy in your statements, SBF. Jehovah's Witnesses that really believe that God is not partial take that feeling to their grave even if they leave the JWs. Any mention of JWs & their racist comments after having left is just another fact to be added to the rest of the lies told us. I was under the impression that since God was not partial neither were the "anointed". I had no idea of said information published in the publications until I did leave. I tell you that I see more discrimination of social class based on how much money you earned and whether you were related to the elders/ministerial servants/pioneers. When I was able to see such quotes, it gave me more reason to believe that all the talk throughout the 80s that JWs were not racist at all was nothing but bunk!

I have met many people who like to throw the back-door racist comments on those who've done nothing but respect all people. Frankly, I don't believe that an apostate movement actually exists to the extent that you are saying. Otherwise we would be seeing the development of another kind of Borg. Maybe there are Apostafests, but I have never heard of any one single apostate leader becoming a pastor for the rest. I don't believe that those who are truly sincere would ever say such things unless they were true. All-in-all, I think you are just trying to confuse the real issue that bothers you. I agree with the others. You are just trying to start a fight and waste our time.

Just because we left the Borg, doesn't mean that many of our core beliefs are not the same. Like the Basic command, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Wake up and smell the roses. Nobody here is making truly racist comments. They are just repeating what they've seen quoted and are appalled by the lies. Quit wasting my time!

Did losing your religion send you into/exacerbate depression?

i think most of us here agree that our past belief in the jw organization as being god's sole chosen people was delusional on our part.

for myself, when i lost that delusion (fairly abruptly too), i came out of a long period of depression immediately.

while i was incredibly angry at having been decieved, i can't say that that anger translated into any other negatives, in fact, overall, i think my general level of anger, even at elders/the gb/etc subsided, as i now understood why they do what they do even better than they themselves understand it.

I decided to take a plunge and get married despite their grumblings. I had to leave due to being boxed in the unmarriageable category. The mere loneliness made me crazy. I couldn't help but try to change. they made me want to kill myself. My husband, a non-JW, was very supportive. I wouldn't touch the "apostate" stuff for a few months. I was so overcome by guilt and shame and feelings that God could have cursed me. It has taken a little research and reading to have my guilt removed. But getting kicked in the stomach because I was so angry because I had been lied to. It nearly ate me alive. I barely finished my semester. I hated myself and them for raping my spiritual innocence and telling me boldfaced lies. It still makes me angry. I am still learning the art of getting angry at those who have hurt me without blaming myself for what they did to me. I hate them for their criticism of everybody and everything while they're doing the same crap the other religions are. I am relieved of the burden of guilt that maybe God cursed me for leaving. He obviously wanted for me to leave. I wanted the truth despite guttrenching pain. I am s-l-o-w-l-y weeding my way through the Search for Christian Freedom. I take it a few pages at a time. But it is all coming through loud and clear that I have been a part of an apostate religion that took all control away from my mediator to cry out in my defense before God. They had no right to usurp his position and add to the law making it rigid and unbending, even unmerciful. May God be just as merciful with them as they have been with me.

I couldn't pray for a long time, but that passed. The deepest part of my depression/grieving period is now over. I am free to think and feel and be myself at all times without their criticism. ---- them all!!!

I went to the memorial. I listened to the talk while my husband was making complaints about what things he found wrong in the speaker's discourse. I tried to get him to be quiet so as not to disturb the others. It's just rude to try and debate during the discourse at the front of the kingdom hall where everyone could hear you.

That put aside...before the meeting started I was basically back door telling some people off because I could talk to my husband, and no one else dare interrupt my little speech. I basically said that every single JW behaves as a hypocrite when they judge their brother so harshly. I know that the Christ would have been surprisingly kind to me despite my sins knowing my situation personally. Humans are too dogmatic. To them, it has to be one way or the other. I had had my fill of being left out and neglected socially due to being from a single parent family and having been molested. There was no way that I could neglect my own spiritual/mental/emotional needs and continue boxed in the non-marriageable category. When the thyroid goes, sometimes it shows a deeper problem with the pituitary not sending the proper signals to the female organs to shut down excessive desire. This coupled with years of neglect and criticism just threw me into a big tizzy. I had to break free from what was killing me. I didn't want to live in sin. So, I married a good non-witness with great quality. Anyway, the brothers did not make enough concessions realizing my situation. So, I basically told them that they had given me no other choice. I had to leave for the sake of my health. I couldn't go through anymore guiltfests where I go there and suffer constant crying spells because I felt that whatever forgiveness that I received from God was taken away if I could not show these people what they wanted to see. The brothers really do not take your disabilities that seriously if you don't look disabled and have some intelligence. They just expect the same out of you as they do the rest with no real concessions. What is more, they expected me to really handle it all on my own without any real assistance. Nope, I'm never going back.

The Memorial will absolutely be my last meeting. No shame, No regrets!

If anyone's out there from Tulsa and runs into my brother Jonathan from Valley Park Cong. tell him that you know that his sister thinks of him everyday.

Compassion for assembly attendees

my love and i went to the big city today for the old port festival- the city blocks off several streets, there is live music, horrible fried foods on sticks, pasty looking mainers wearing shorts for the first time in nine months; all in all, a fun, casual day.

the area where this is held is a few blocks from the civic center, where the jw's always hold their assemblies.. while waiting in line for food, my honey whispered that he saw a man wearing a name badge that read godly subjection.he had no idea what that signified.

when i looked around, sure enough, there was a witness couple- both of them sweating in their assembly clothes, wearing dorky looking name badges, and looking really furtive and uncomfortable about being in the street festival.

Insomniac, I wholeheartedly agree that being at a convention all day long where you're pent up and stressed, incapable of much movement outside of any "scriptural bounds" of enjoying oneself and just letting loose. I didn't really start to enjoy myself until after I left or was in the process of getting in trouble. JW's need to learn how to relax and smell the roses without being judged for it. May they all learn how to relax and really breathe in deep the ambience of just being out with their friends and family!

P.S. I must also be having trouble sleeping right now, too.

Is there anyone familiar with the Kansas City, MO/KS area?

i used to have a friend back in the late eighties early nineties that attended a congregation in the heart of kcmo.

the name could have been red bridge or red brook.

it was located off of blue ridge boulevard near wornall rd.

I used to have a friend back in the late eighties early nineties that attended a congregation in the heart of KCMO. The name could have been Red Bridge or Red Brook. It was located off of Blue Ridge Boulevard near Wornall Rd. I'm not really sure what street it was on, but her family, when she lived with her mother, lived off of Wornall Rd. Her name was Danielle N. Wanda and James were her mother and brother. Is there anyone from that area that might know of this family?

P.S. I tried to edit my thread but was not allowed to. I think the name of her congregation could have been Red Bridge. The congregation was located close to Blue Ridge Boulevard near the Wornall Rd area. She used to live with her mother in the late eighties in a townhouse off of Wornall Rd. Is there anyone out there who knows this area of KC?

Daffodils...They were such bright sunshine to me in my sad life. I got to enjoy so very few beautiful things. When I was a child we had a ready supply of wild daffodils, violets, Irises, and purple hyacinth. But daffodils just made me smile. I would play for hours around the wild daffodils and in the violets. They made me feel like I actually had friends that smiled at seeing me. They are truly beautiful.

I was baptized September 30, 1990. Just a few months afterward, I received a letter from a friend. She told me she had been disfellowshipped. Due to JW standards, I had to quickly end our friendship. I was trying to write to bring her to her senses and get her to save herself from impending destruction. In my ignorance, I just may have added insult to an already injured soul. I had been taught that to be loyal to God you had to reject what JW's considered that God rejected. She was coming to me begging for me to be a real friend and I let her down. That was a really big blow to hear that my best and only friend did not want to serve Jehovah (at least not in the way JWs strictly told her to). I always had a hole in my heart. I missed having a friend at all. I did not want to tell her goodbye. I did because I thought I was doing what was right. I now believe that I was wrong. All those years being a JW at heart never blessed me with real and true friends there. It was such a cruel joke to be around those who did not take my religion seriously, but looked down on me because I came from that poor, single parent family. I was even more greatly disillusioned by the men who could have cared less about real and deep principle. They looked down on me because I was molested and poor. Somehow, I was never good enough for anybody. I am truly, deeply sorry for hurting my friend so deeply. I wonder if she recognizes that I was only following procedure. I didn't want to have to tell her goodbye, but I felt compelled to do that which I was taught was right, no matter how wrong it felt. Now that I have been disfellowshipped, not that I haven't wondered how she had been getting along since then, I felt the need to try to seek her out and make peace with her.

Danielle [removed] are you out there? You used to go to Redbrook Congregation in Kansas City. Your mother and brother's names were Wanda and James, respectively. You went to go live with your father in Kansas, possibly Leavenworth or Excelsior Springs.

Is there anyone out there who knows who I am talking about who could tell me anything? I feel very bad about what happened. I need to tell her that I care, respect, and miss her. I was only doing what I was told to do by a militant Borg. I just want to know if she is okay and what she has done with her life. May God bless her and be there for her throughout her life.
