  Are they really that bad???

  had a good look into the doctrine, beliefs and practices of jws and to be honest, i don't really see anything wrong with it at all.. it's biblical and i've had such an eye opener the past year or so reading some of their books and magazines .

  is there really any real reasons why i shouldn't want to get involved further?

  My reply: Anything emntioned at JW meetings is generally referenced to an out-of context versed framed as a proof-text, correct.

  My reply: Wrong! Their lit is in line with what the governing body says the Bible means. The GB says that Acts 17:11, regarding the Bereans is ok for one to do before they get baptized, but once baptized that stops.

  My reply: JWs are not allowed to apply the Berean standard, and if they did they would see a history of false prophecy and teachings.

  i'm looking for someone to help with some research.

  i need to find out about the culture and beliefs of jw's.

  it must be from a genuine jw, not hear say from someone who 'knows' about the faith or has previously been a jw, i need to hear the view as a positive.. if anyone can help i'd be grateful if you could get in touch.

  You then need a real-life account from a current JW who happily lives that life. I might suggest calling the headquarters and requesting to speak with someone 718-560-5000.

  Which is it? Are you trying to hear a positive evaluation? Or are you trying to research to learn their beliefs and customs?

  How would former JW not be one who was a genuine JW? And why would you not want first-hand knowledge from one who spent decades in the org? That is like a car dealer telling his customer to only inquire about him on an approved list of customers that he gives them- and not to contact any of his former customers not on the list. I doubt your honesty here.

  Latest Special Talk in Australia

  no, i don't mean the visit by oprah.. there was a special talk on sunday relayed to all the aussie congs from sydney.

  apparently the speaker had an american accent, but was stationed in a latin american country.

  he was really pushing field service and pulled out the old one that: if you do not witness you are not one of jehovah's witnesses.

  Birthdays not mentioned in the new elder's handbook

  i just noticed this today when i was replying to another thread.

  the new elders handbook doesn't even mention the word birthday, even though there's a big detailed chapter on offences requiring a judicial committee.. is it possible that celebrating birthdays is officially, according to the 'law', allowed?

  i can see this being the case, where technically you're allowed to, but you would just get judged like crazy..
