Molester, Johnathan Kendrick, has already spent one year in jail for molestation, but WT elders kept the secret that he was a confessed molester from the congregation, so he went on to molest more kids as the press release states. So here we have the results of the WT's infamous "confidentiality" policy. Kendrick has been attending a new congregation where elders knew of his past, but kept the secret! If I wasn't a big girl, I'd cry!!!!!!!!!!!

By the way, I have been given to understand that punitive damage, if the jury awards any, is based on defendant's worth. What plaintiff's attorney needed was proof of that worth. We all know that WT is not particularly transparent when it comes to what they are worth, so it hasn't been easy for the plaintiff's side to come up with verifiable facts. Within the next few hours, plaintiff's attorney will be presenting to the jury what his law firm uncovered and then the WT's attorney will get his chance to talk to the jury. He will most likely plead poverty. If Jim McCabe, WT's attorney from San Diego, and an ex-Bethelite from the years when we were in Bethel, speaks in the defendant's behalf, he will most likely contribute tears as he tells the jury not to punish a religion for what a member did, just as he did during the three-week trial.

Yes, the ramifications of this jury decision are huge. My ex-associates at WT must have had a restless night (to put it mildly) after this decision came in. The jury awarded the victim 7 million total damages. The finding against WT was MALICE! Note a copy of the news release below that went out to the media yesterday afternoon after the verdict came in. I added the bracketed information.
Since a number of us notified the media giants yesterday, hopefully, there might be some national coverage. However, what's important to us is not necessarily important to the general public!! There is definitely an inside story about WT's defense that caused jurors to roll their eyes in disbelief, but that's for another time.
OAKLAND JURY HOLDS JEHOVAH WITNESSES RESPONSIBLE FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF FREMONT CHILD
An Alameda County Superior Court jury has found the Jehovah’s Witnesses legally responsible for the sexual abuse of a 9 year old former Fremont girl. The verdict, announced Wednesday June 13, found that the Elders who managed the North Fremont Jehovah’s Witness Congregation in the 1990s knew perpetrator Jonathan Kendrick had recently been convicted for the sexual abuse of another child, but kept his past record secret from the Congregation. Kendrick went on to repeatedly sexually molest Candace Conti, now 26, over a two year period, using Jehovah Witnesses activities such as door to door neighborhood soliciting as his way to secretly gain control over his young victim. Kendrick was eventually convicted in 2004 of the sexual abuse of another young girl, and is now a Registered Sex Offender in California.
The key issue in the case, according to the victim’s attorney Rick Simons of Hayward, was the written policy of Watchtower New York, Inc., which instructed all Elders in Jehovah’s Witnesses Congregations in the United States to keep reports of child sex abusers within Jehovah’s Witnesses secret to avoid lawsuits. The case is believed to be the first in the nation to directly address the formerly secret policy of secrecy, adopted in 1989 and still in force today.
Ms. Conti stated “I once wanted to be the best Jehovah’s Witness I could be. Now I feel I’m doing more to help other children in Jehovah’s Witnesses than I ever did walking door to door to spread the ‘good news’”. She was awarded damages by the jury of $ 7,000,000, and the jury will return tomorrow [Thursday] to consider if punitive damages should be awarded. [Their decision is slated for Friday.]
Candace Conti spent 2 years trying to convince the Jehovah’s Witnesses, both in Southern California and in Fremont, to change the secrecy policy, but finally gave up and filed her lawsuit in 2011. “This young woman, who experienced brutal abuse as a child, could not tell anyone for several years, and has walked for many years in a nightmare of depression and isolation, has shown incredible courage in facing the powerful and secrecy laden organization that betrayed her into the hands of a monster” said Mr. Simons of his client.
The verdict came in the courtroom of Judge Robert McGuiness in Dept. 22, Oakland.

FINAL WITNESS*
Air Date: Wednesday, July 11, 2012
Time Slot: 10:00 PM-11:00 PM EST on ABC
Episode Title: (#103) "Fatal Devotion"VIEW ALL LISTINGS FOR FINAL WITNESS [NOTE: The following article is a press release issued by the aforementioned network and/or company. Any errors, typos, etc. are attributed to the original author. The release is reproduced solely for the dissemination of the enclosed information.] A MANHUNT FOR THE DAD ENSUES WHEN A MOTHER AND THREE YOUNG CHILDREN ARE FOUND DEAD ON "FINAL WITNESS" JULY 11 "Fatal Devotion" - Mary Jane Baker Longo was a devout Jehovah's Witness and mother of three. She and her husband, Christian, a handsome go-getter and great dad, were madly in love. When Christian packed up the family to move across country, Mary Jane and the kids happily went along. But what appeared to be a family adventure was something much more sinister: Christian was on the run. Unknown to Mary Jane, her husband was a consummate liar and, when under financial pressure, a thief. It had started years earlier with Christian pilfering money from work to pay for Mary Jane's engagement ring and escalated to hundreds of thousands of dollars in check fraud and stolen industrial equipment. At every turn, Christian assured Mary Jane that everything was fine and, even as they fled their hometown of Ypsilanti, Michigan and dragged their children and few remaining possessions (most stolen) on a manic road trip through cheap motels and apple-pie American tourist destinations, Mary Jane's trust never wavered. But in Newport, Oregon, Christian's lies finally caught up with him. What follows was a descent into murder and an international manhunt involving the FBI, on "Final Witness," airing Wednesday, July 11 (10:00-11:00 p.m. ET) on the ABC Television Network.
This episode of "Final Witness" includes first-person interviews with Mary Jane Longo's sisters, Penny and Jenny, the Oregon detective and district attorney and numerous others, as well as a haunting soundtrack which includes singles by indie artists and bands including Kurt Vile, Barr Brothers, BOBBY, Young Man, Carla Kihlstedt, Marika Hughes, Shahzad Ismaily, Infinity Window and Teeth of the Sea. More information on the music on this episode can be found at ABC Music Lounge, http://abc.go.com/music-lounge.
The series is produced for ABC by Lincoln Square Productions. Executive Producers are Rudy Bednar and Christine Connor; Senior Producer is Adam Feinstein; Series Producer is Lee Beckett; Series Production Manager is Alex Friedman.
"Final Witness" is broadcast in 720 Progressive (720P), ABC's selected HDTV format, with 5.1 Surround Sound. A TV parental guideline will be assigned closer to airdate.

Actually, this is a hard call to make since the downsizing at headquarters began in 1999 and the figures at hand are nearly ten years old.
The latest definitive information for the United States that I have goes back to 2003 and is found in the April 8, 2003 (signed by Don A. Adams, President) Amended and Restated Charter of the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania.
Although the name, "Leslie Long," is not found on the 2003 list that was included in that Restated Charter, a list that contains the names of 18 attorneys, Attorney Long was working for the Legal Dept. when we were at Bethel.
The page reads:
The names and addreses of attorneys admitted to practice in the State of New York who have, in the past year, made commitments to Watch Tower to provide legal services are:
William R. Bell, 100 Watchtower Drive, Patterson, NY 12563
Christine Benham, 275 Tanner Marsh Road, Guilford, Connecticut 06437
Philip Brumley, 100 Watchtower Drive, Patterson, New York 12563
Max Custer, 100 Watchtower Drive, Patterson, New York 12563
Michelle Dickinson, 27 Hudson Watch Drive, Ossining, New York 10562
Lisa Douglas, 100 Watchtower Drive, Patterson, New York 12563
Robert C. James, 100 Watchtower Drive, Patterson, New York 12563
Richard King, 100 Watchtower Drive, Patterson, New York 12563
Adam Linett, 100 Watchtower Drive, Patterson, New York 12563
James M. McCabe, 4817 Santa Monica Avenue, Suite B, San Diego, California 92017
John Miller III, 100 Watchtower Drive, Patterson, New York 12563
Richard Moake, 100 Watchtower Drive, Patterson, New York 12563
Mario F. Moreno, 100 Watchtower Drive, Patterson, New York 12563
Erna Neufeld, 100 Watchtower Drive, Patterson, New York 12563
Paul D. Polidoro, 100 Watchtower Drive, Patterson, New York 12563
Donald T. Ridley, 100 Watchtower Drive, Patterson, New York 12563
Carolyn R. Wah, 100 Watchtower Drive, Patterson, New York 12563Attorneys Bell, Brumley, James, McCabe, Moreno, Olds, Polidoro, Ridley, and Wah have been representing the Watch Tower the longest, especially Ridley. Brumley runs the Legal Department and has done so even before the Society put him through law school.
Bell, Brumley, James, McCabe, Ridley, and Wah were at Brooklyn Bethel when we were. Since 2003, I'm sure that other attorneys have come on board as well as some on the list probably have gone their own way. Not to be overlooked are many support people working in Legal such as paralegals and secretaries.
Note that three attorneys on the list don't live at headquarters. Furthermore, there are other JW attorneys around the US that will do work in their area for the Society if asked.
When I was in Bethel, it appeared to me that the Writing Department and the Service Department were larger than the Legal Department. There were about 6 or 7 attorneys living at Bethel in the early 1990s compared to the 15 living at Patterson in 2003.
Back then, in the Writing Dept., included with the writers, there were also many support people, totaling up to around 25 in the department. (Service Dept. probably had about the same number of personnel as Writing.) But now, it would appear to me that there would be less need for writers and their support personnel since the Society decreased the amount of literature and pages published. Consequently, when counting in support personnel, it could be that Legal has more people than Writing in that according to recent reports of law suits, these have not abated but increased since 2003.
If I'm correct in my assumptions, what irony and absurdity this is for a religion to have a greater need for secular lawyers than for religious editorial writers.

Palimpsest - Thank you for expressing your concerns. To put your mind at ease, please be assured that anyone replying to my request will be put in touch with the person doing the interview. He/she is a professional with credentials and will fully disclose what he/she is doing.
Actually, I would answer any and all questions on this board except that I don't think it's the business of all who read the board to know about someone else's projects before that person is ready to disclose all. Anyone who replies to my request doesn't even need to give me their name and yet I will fully answer all questions. I think that most people on this board would appreciate the situation as it is -- Why should we give the Watch Tower org. information about what is going on, yet to find an XJW abuse victim who is willing to go public is not exactly easy and that's why I used this board. People who know me on this board know that I'm very open with information if I'm privately contacted. And in this case, I'll explain the situation and if there is any interest to do an interview, I'll provide the contact information.
No one has prohibited me from disclosing any information. I just chose not to do so here on the board but will do so if I'm contacted. Maybe I'm wrong to assume this, but after all my personal experiences with the press and being in the public eye for the last ten years, and also being on this board since it's inception, most here understand that I have only good in mind for others and would never put anybody in a difficult position or in harms way. Please give me some credit for knowing how to go about exposing the Watch Tower legally and ethically. And I use this board to do just that! If any victim of child abuse reading my request doesn't know me or my reputation, it is understood that he/she should not reply.
On the other hand, Palimpsest, your warnings are sincerely appreciated. As you suggested, no one should "... ever give anyone an interview without knowing exactly who they are, who's backing them, and what they plan to do with your words."
Thank you,
Barbara

I'd like to talk to a JW victim of child abuse by a JW molester. It doesn't matter if you have gone public or not, but would like to be interviewed. If you want to remain anonymous, you will be accommodated. Preferably, the area you live in is NY, NJ, Pennsylvania, Washington, DC, Delaware or Connecticut.
Please send me an email through my website http://www.watchtowerdocuments.com/contact.html or PM me here at JWN.
And if you don't have a story to tell, please pass the word to anyone you think might be interested.
Thanks,
Barbara
