I came here by accident too - and learned the Truth about the Truth - the UN thing is massive in my opinion. Also, seeing the Watchtower (thanks Blondie) and other WTBTS publications for what they really are. Not forgetting 'Quotes' site too :)...Although I'd left the Org many years prior, I retained a certain amount of guilt believing I wasn't good enough to be a Dub. Now I know different.

FLUER DE LIS WALLPAPER = TRINITY VISITING CO SUGGESTS IT MUST GO
by ZazuWitts ini can count on one hand the number of times i have spoken to larc's sister since his death last fall... she will briefly chat if i make the effort to phone her - but doesn't call me.
yesterday, i did phone her - to tell of her of some family news that i felt she should know.
she told me they had spent the labor day removing wallpaper, that was already in the home when they moved in.

Personally I think that 'Elders'/COs etc just like to impress the R&F with their knowledge....
Didn't I see a picture of a WT building (someone posted on here) with a 'pagan' symbol on it?

The resurrection of dead pets
by greendawn inwould it be nice if pets also got resurrected to live with their owners once more?
we can try teaching them all the biblical truths but of course they will not understand anything.
however their faithful christian owners may want to see them again.

....does being a 'Dub pet' give them a guaranteed resurrection? I was thinking about all those animals in butchers' windows.

My sisters
by iamfreenow ini have two sisters, angela, who is 17 months younger than me, and who has been baptised since she was 16, and jean, who is 55, and has never been a jehovahs witness.
i have always got on very well with both of them, but now i am no longer a jw, i really wondered how angela would react.
it's not that she has ever been an over - zealous jw.

I suppose she may have to be discreet about personal contact
Lol - yep - amazing how many 'adults' have to skulk around like schoolkids trying not to get 'caught' because of the ridiculous rules. Doesn't look like that's going to be a problem with your sister though. In fact, it looks like Angela and hubby have been fading and that perhaps YOU have given them the strength to make the final steps. Look how quick they invited you to dinner! Lol - they didn't even have to THINK about it. Well done.

Perhaps it would be an idea for EVERYONE (who wanted to) to leave a contact number with another poster, who could check on them if they were offline for a while. Or if someone was going offline (on holiday) they could inform their designated contact. Just a thought - may put minds at ease.

Why is the WTBTS so against mental health professional treatment?
by Gill infollowing on from sandy's thread on her brother's pt, i wondered exactly why does the wtbts take such an opposing stand to professional mental health treatment?
-
MidwichCuckoo
The problem is, it can still take a lot of people with it.
Of course - there are always those who cling to a sinking ship - for whatever reason. But as you say, the recent eating disorder article (I didn't see it) is a joke - BUT 100 years ago, it would have been perceived as a valid 'cure' along with a load of other 'quack' remedies. And that's the WTBTS's problem. It's a dying religion based on what people 'needed' over 100 years ago and has no chance with Modern Society.

A purely personal opinion......
I believe this 'religion' has run its course. Unlike real religions that have remained pretty standard and stable over the centuries, 'sects' and 'cults' have a limited 'shelf life'. They are 'born' when people have a 'need' for them, but as Society changes, the sect/cult becomes useless unless it changes.
Since Dubism was founded, mental health issues have taken a MASSIVE leap forward and mental illness has become 'acceptable' as being common (to most people at some time in their lives) and treatable. No stigma. No need to look for 'something better' (A New System). Mental health treatment could CURE someone of NEEDING to be a Dub.

New Law Passed -- Adultery will have a 1 year Prison Sentence
by Rabbit inhttp://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060901/od_nm/cambodia_adultery_dc_1
phnom penh (reuters) - cambodia's parliament passed a law friday which could send adulterers to jail for up to a year.
the vote prompted a walkout by opposition lawmakers who said the law carried echoes of the khmer rouge and the taliban in a country which should be tackling poverty and corruption instead of legislating about morality.

They'd have to build a LOT more jails.
