Lol Outlaw - Jehovah is just an opportunist?
You know what, I reckon we could construct one of these stories, leak it, and it would be portrayed as a FACT from the stage at an Assembly.
I'll start...I was a pioneer living in a high rise block, 14 storeys up and starving...I was praying for nourishment and suddenly a pigeon flew through my window...clearly redirected from its current flight path by Jehovah...next poster lol...

Children - Just a thought
by MidwichCuckoo inwas it 1938 when faithful jws were first instructed recommended not to have children?
...mark the words of jesus, which definitely seem to discourage the bearing of children immediately before or during armageddon....it would therefore appear that there is no reasonable or scriptural injunction to bring children into the world immediately before armageddon, where we now are.
" (watchtower, nov. 1, 1938, p. 324) the wt was relatively in its early days (compared to mainstream religion), and had already gone through a lot of change.

You're right fullofdoubt. I've heard that Baptismal candidates are getting younger. Yet I know couples, maybe a decade or so older than me, who haven't had children 'in this system'. If the 'END' was imminent, then surely the WT would be encouraging couples to wait till after Armageddon (imminent) to have children. The fact that they're not indicates a personal interest.

Burger Time - silly response. They 'PREACH' the same NOW...Armaggedon imminent...but as far as I know they are not discouraging having children. ''The 'End' is nearer now than it was in 1938...

1984 - Some Quotes... long so no pressure to read it all :-)
by AlphaOmega ini have just read the book (and seen the film) "1984", by george orwell.
i would like to share a few quotes with you all.
at this moment, for example, in 1984 (if it was 1984), oceania was at war with eurasia and in alliance with eastasia.

The past was erased, the erasure was forgotten, the lie became truth. ’Who controls the past,’ ran the Party slogan, ’controls the future: who controls the present controls the past.’
Great quotes - as I recall, regarding the WTBTS, one poster said, ''The future is constant, yet the past always changes'' (or something like that, lol)

Was it 1938 when faithful JWs were first
instructedrecommended not to have children? ...mark the words of Jesus, which definitely seem to discourage the bearing of children immediately before or during Armageddon....It would therefore appear that there is no reasonable or scriptural injunction to bring children into the world immediately before Armageddon, where we now are." (Watchtower, Nov. 1, 1938, p. 324) The WT was relatively in its early days (compared to mainstream religion), and had already gone through a lot of change. Now I got to thinking, was the WTBTS thinking short term income at this point? Maybe thinking/expecting the Cult to fold? Its prophesies already failing meant there was a possibility of losing members. Was the 'no child' policy 'insurance' to fund the Organisation's immediate needs? ie, married couples, either 'cut off' from their families or in families devoid of children - and die without issue/heirs...who is the obvious benefactor? This policy is then reversed as the WT NEEDS future income as less people are 'converted', JWs need to breed the WT's future financial security...am I making this clear? lol -

there was also the rumor going around that some bethelites went to the theater to see the film and satan or some demons forced them to stay in their seats in the theater until elders were called from bethel to pray them out of their seats.
bethelite elder super heroes.
I'm crying here. Have conjoured up this image of a window cleaners from all over town entering phone boxes and emerging in suits and carrying briefcases full of WT crap.

They seemed to relish their poverty, illnesses, hunger and deprivation as if it was a hair shirt that symbolised their superiority and their right to position in the congregation and eventual immortality!
Gill - The Watchtower equivalent of the cilice, lol
fullofdoubtnow - yes, the last Assembly I ever attended was at Dudley. No fond memories. The Assembly Hall is relatively close to where I live - I often drive pass it (pity I didn't 20 years ago, lol).

Morning Gill I was 15 years old when I volunteered. I can't remember much - I think I used to 'turn off' during Assemblies. Stories of Jehovah providing were always bountiful though...what's that Scripture that was always quoted? Mathew 6 v 26...
