Bottom line is...you (we) have no freedom of speech (if I'm understanding you correctly - not free to have an opinion without 'suffering the consequences'). I'm guessing that if a JW family member asks, "Can I just ask you one thing"? he/she has already 'researched'/pre-empted your response... Personally, if I believed they just wanted to promote the WT or gather my response to report to Elders (as that how it appears from your post), I'd decline.

Could use a little input on freedom of speech with JW relatives.
by nicolaou inhow do you deal with jw relatives who say; "can i just ask you one thing?".
seems obvious that you'd willingly answer their question right?
i mean, it's good that they're asking questions, maybe they're waking up and it might start them on their journey out of the wt.. but.. i've got one real hardcore jw sibling.

1984 WT cover -- Watchtower's Final Failed Prediction?
by FatFreek 2005 inthe infamous cover of that 1984 watchtower (27 years ago) was perhaps the last prediction / prophecy of the watchtower society.
will there be any more or have they finally learned their lesson?
some think they are like a race-track junkie and are addicted to predictions.

I've always found this WT cover very sad...
FatFreek - I thought I'd have a go at copying it, right-clicked, and amongst my options (bear in mind I'm not the most techy person) was send via Bluetooth - so I gave it a whirl, and now have the image on my mobile phone, lol (could be useful)

The name of this forum
by Georgiegirl inwe've all seen jw apologists come on here (or very confused jws'/jw wannabes) bellyaching about how misleading the name of this forum is.
it suddenly occurred to me - shouldn't that actually be a red flag for them?
the very organization that claims to be "his witnesses" and that it is the only religion out there sanctifying the name of jehovah (ergo, they are the "truth") - uses the watchtower as their homepage name.

Good point Georgie...
he started the website in 2000 and I could be wrong but that might pre-date the WTS' entry to the internet.
He got em first. He gets to keep them
...and you would think that as the WT is 'Spirit directed', it would have forseen this...

Private Discussion
by besty insimon.
as most people seem to have worked out the private discussion and support part of the forum is not private beyond requiring a username.. today nugget and cantleave are having printouts of their posts in this section being used in evidence at their jc.. http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/members/private/204436/1/nugget-and-cantleave-are-no-longer-jehovahs-witnesses.
my suggestion is, if its possible, to create an invite-only section of the board for truly private support.. .

An idea - how about posters who have attained one thousand (?) posts only being allowed access to Private Discussion Forum..? By posts, I mean that spam and one word posts (just to bump their post count) would be removed/discounted. It would take real commitment just to 'spy', and after one thousand 'real' posts, the poster would either be 'involved' to quite a degree...or just have given up. Hope that makes sense.

WT Society's Paranoia Over Spiral Binding of Elder's Textbook - Crazy
by flipper inthis letter was sent as an addendum to the elders regarding their latest elders textbook.
i think you'll find this interesting and also disconcerting as well.. to all bodies of elders.
re: spiral binding of shepherding textbook.

I think the WT is just reinforcing their (the Elders) pseudo-importance.

Here in the UK - a £3 fee charged for going to JW assembly hall
by James_Slash ini cannot speak for other countries, but it has become evident of late that more and more talks are being done by presiding overseers at kh's (especially in the west midlands) and they are making it quite clear that they are expecting 3 from every publisher (per day) who visit the dudley assembly hall, west midlands to contribute towards the upkeep of it.. the quote from the po's who have done this talk have said that "it is expected that each publisher will put 3 into the box on each day".. what do you think of that then?
as the world hits an economic breakdown the jw's seem to maximising their income from struggling families.. dudley assembly hall holds about 600-700 people.
i'm sure people are capable of doing the maths.. so much for voluntary contributions !!

I am familiar with the car park at Dudley Assembly Hall - I always believed it is not adequate considering the size of the Hall. Isn't the parking there prioritised..? I've known JWs use the car park opposite (which belongs to Dudley Zoo - and there is a fee for parking on it, which I've known JWs complain about, but it is for visitors to the zoo).
James - PMing you.

I hope you're right BrotherDan. I just recall the case of Michael Porter (UK) who, when 'found out' he was suddenly remorseful and the Congregation stood by him.

Court paperwork shows David Nelson, 63, played strip poker with the 14-year-old victim at least twice, and there was some inappropriate touching.
I don't really want to read the article, but from the original post it seems he only 'confessed' because he had no choice (typical, amazing how these blokes are only remorseful AFTER being caught)... in WT World he'll probably just be 'counselled' for playing poker (it's a sin don't you know, tsk, tsk)

We Women Know How to Stretch a Dollar!
by snowbird insomething burn linked to on the thread about gender equality got me to thinking.. the statement was made that it is mostly the woman who is in charge of the family budget, and she knows instinctively that you can't spend your way out of debt.. i know that, but this basic fact seems lost on some.. for example, i see my oldest daughter making financial blunder after financial blunder.. she has, in effect, told me to stay out of her business, yet it is i to whom she comes begging for help when her money goes south.. my maternal g'mother, who lived to the age of 104, had a favorite saying: "root, hog, or stay poor.
swim or sink.".
i've decided to let her stay poor or sink - whichever comes first.. syl.

On the subject of supermarket shopping (although maybe a tad off topic) have you noticed how women will look for the best 'sell by/use by' dates, but men will just take the product at front of display (so will have limited time to eat it).
