Thanks for the updates. I always thought it was weird how much into JW's the mother and Michael seemed to be yet they did Christmas songs. The book is quite an interesting read and you can tell Michael always struggled with being a Witness.

During my recent trip to Dallas, I stopped by an old haunt, Half-Price Bookstore, and picked up Jermaine Jacksons book "You Are Not Alone - Michael: Through a Brothers Eyes." It has several interesting observations, but one of them has me puzzled. On page 204 Jermaine is describing a mural that Michael had painted on one of the walls. Jermaine states "Inside, a painted mural fills one wall. It is a green forest scene with a cartoon version of Michael perched on a tree reading a green book with a title 'The Secret of Life' - required reading for Jehovah's Witnesses." I do not recall this publication? What is it and why was it "required reading for Jehovah's Witnesses?" Donny

Are the Adventists looking to attract downtrodden JW's?
by donny insorry if anyone has already posted on this but i did not see anything related in the few pages of active topics i checked.. last saturday i went to an oil change facilty and one of their perks is they give you a copy of the current usa today while you wait in your car.
on page 8a is a full page ad titled "liberty of conscience threatened.... a national sunday law will be established as the mark of the beast.".
the article then goes on a typical adventist rant about how saturday, not sunday, is the real sabbath established by god.

Thanks for the update and the point on the ad misquoting the NWT. Since the ad had made the effort to quote it, I did not even look to verify its accuracy. However someone who wrote the ad must have had one lying around as this version is rarely quoted for support of anything outside of JW circles.

Survey: Who here is an atheist? Who here still believes in God?
by Christ Alone ini just wanted to take a survey.
let's not let this get into the same old same old debate of atheism vs belief.
just respond with "atheist" or "believer" or "maybe god exists".

Agnostic atheist. For a year or two I first tried the "traditional" Christianity route after I left the JW's, but I eventually woke up and realized that all religion is just mans way of trying to explain the unexplainable.

Sorry if anyone has already posted on this but I did not see anything related in the few pages of active topics I checked.
Last Saturday I went to an oil change facilty and one of their perks is they give you a copy of the current USA today while you wait in your car. On page 8A is a full page ad titled "Liberty of Conscience Threatened.... A National Sunday Law Will be Established as the Mark of the Beast."
The article then goes on a typical Adventist rant about how Saturday, not Sunday, is the real Sabbath established by God. What caught my attention was about 3/4 through the article where they mention Paul meeting on the first day of the week. It then states that "Paul spent Sunday morning traveling to Assos. We do not see any change or command to keep Sunday holy. The New World Translation says 'On Saturday night, in our assembling for the breaking of bread, Paul, who was to leave the next day.'"
This is the first time I have seen another church use the NWT in it's ad. Other than some occasional clergy or bible study types, who else but JW's would recognize this citation source?
Are they trying to bring some long, long lost sheep back into the Adventist fold?

Weird stuff that only an exJW would know
by biblecheck ini was thinking tonight about all the wierd stuff that i viewed as totally normal being brought up as a jw.... here's my list.... - eating broken easter eggs after easter was not a sin.
- your car always had to be clean in time for the co visit.
- being assigned to the car park at a convention, with a walkie talkie, meant you had powerful connections.. - the amount of lines and hand writing on your sunday watchtower, spoke volumes of your spirituality.

Having a "Thanksgiving" dinner on the Friday after the holiday was ok because you were just eating and not celebrating a "worldly" holiday.

I wonder if they will write to all the 'anointed' or just suprise them at a meeting?
by snare&racket inwriting to the partakers legitimises their claim of being anointed.
they also dont trust these people so will they let them know early?.
if they inform the munchers of emblems 'on the night' the whole cong will see the dissapointment, shock, despair, stabbed back.. on their faces as they are demoted to other sheep authority in this life, with the boss powers only coming in the next life.

Do You Think All This New Light Will Rattle Any Of The Witnesses?
by minimus inor do you think the sheeple will just follow the gb's words without question?.
-
donny
It will affect only the very few who still think for themselves. I remember many years ago there was an article in the Watchtower that was talking about how folks in Christendom just blindy followed their leaders and then posed the question "How many would actually appose if a 4th personage was added to the Trinity doctrine?" That question resonated with me at the time because I saw how easily it applied to followers of the Society. All of the Witnesses beleived the angel of the abyss in Revelation was Satan the Devil until the Babylon books of the 1960's came out and stated that it was Jesus Christ. That was a 180 degree change and few Witnesses had any issue with it.

A big shift in the world is about to happen......
by EndofMysteries ini don't want to deceive anyone and i have to clarify a few things so i'm sorry this is going to be a lot more vague then you want.
infact if you do not already realize or also feel something is about to happen as in the title, then move along, it will be a month or 2 before i update this.
it's not my intention to annoy anybody, i am too uncomfortable to post any details because it's too new and i need to verify things, and i am also feeling responsible to give a subtle warning, that it might be something somebody needs to see.

"The scary thing about it....both versions are also in the bible." That is probably true. The bible is written in such a manner that any new outcome or development in the future can molded to fit the circumstances.
