  They're losing the battle with their youth simply because they arent giving us any incentives. I mean, what sane 13-19 year old would actually leave whatever they have in the "world" and become witnesses.

  I was baptized at 11, and i often ask myself WTF i'm doing here. All of the teenagers in my congregation have either left the organization or have become inactive.

  Its really crazy/sad when you cant remember doing anything remotely exciting for the past year. Its really things like this that make people apprehensive to joining the "RANKS".

  Family Bible Study

  what are some good ways a "family head" could study with his family, helping them to see the weak points in watchtower thinking?

  i wish to start this somehow, but since "family study" is seen as simply going over some misc.

  watchtower publication, i don't see where i can make the headway.

  I agree with jstalin.

  Take out a watchtower and have the kiddies go through it underlining the words "Probably, can possibly, possibly, might, could, very well, may" and a whole slew of other words.

  Of course they have to get some kind of reward for doing all that work. (Miss a meeting for every 20 that they find? lol).

  The FBS has been nonexistent in my family for the pass 2 years. It came to a point where whenever a FBS was done, we'd end up at each others throats.

  yellow is total annual baptisms, purple is average publishers, and cyan is attrition rate (total people who left the organization each year).

  these numbers relate to calendar years, not service years.

  How about people who died? I think you'll have to attribute about 100,000 people that have died to the atttrition.

  i found yesterday's wt study to be one of the more thoughtful in recent weeks.

  it carried some important lessons and reminders, especially in reinforcing the kindness and mercy with which jehovah views us, even when we are at our very worst.

  i'm still thinking about it today... .

  I dont know, i dont think it had the same effect at my congregation. Then again, i really wasnt paying attention to anyone when i left, lol.

  the organization of jw's would do better to encourage real love and fellowship among the brothers.

  but suppose, just suppose the borg were to write something like this in a wt study article:.

  The funny thing about that post is that essentially, that is how its SUPPOSED to be.

  I think the overal thinking is that what you just said should be the norm in the congregation, but in reality most people dont want to do it. I guess its hard to Love a brother or sister if they went to college/are doing well materially and still happen to make most of the meetings and make acceptable field service time.

  they might even be elders and ministerial servants.

  There is a guy in my hall who i consider a "Career witnees". I've NEVER heard him say jehovah, his talks and prayers are straight to the point, lacking scriptures and zealous talk. I'll never actually confront him about it though.

  Good cop, Bad Cop...JW elder style

  well i'm still a witness so i was out in field service yesterday with this brother.

  our conversation hit the usual stuff cars, television, movies.

  then he went on to relate how about a month ago, the two head elders (head as in, the other elders really dont matter)took him into the back room and fryed him.

  Well i'm still a witness so i was out in field service yesterday with this brother. Our conversation hit the usual stuff cars, television, movies. Then he went on to relate how about a month ago, the two head elders (Head as in, the other elders really dont matter)took him into the back room and fryed him.
  
  You see, this brother has two jobs and he gets payed really well at both of them. Anyway, the one elder was calling him materialistic and that he was worthless. This shocked me because i usually dont believe the stories you guys tell on the board, but this was coming from a friend of mine. Anyway, the one elder then told him "You might as well leave this congregation and go to your riches". This was then backed up by the other elder who read a scripture and put in his mild mannered two cents.
  
  Anyway, i had to give him the whole "only jehovah knows what you are doing and can judge you" song and dance, and it visibly made him feel better.
  
  But i just wanted to know, are they really allowed to do that? Have any of you been emotionally and spiritually attacked by an elder? and was there a way to solve it? such as going to a circuit overseer?
