last sunday's watchtower tells the story of a man who:.

was baptized in 1908 at the age of 20. he was very confident that he would soon receive his reward.

in fact, when he proposed marriage in 1911, he told his prospective bride, pearl: “you know what is going to happen in 1914. if we are going to get married, we better do it soon!” did this christian couple give up the race for life when they did not receive their heavenly reward in 1914?

It's really quite sad - I'm on the far end of middle age, and I think of all the JW adults that I knew as a kid, hundreds of them, all believing they would literally "never grow old".
Now, they're all dead, or dying, or suffering from dementia. It's probably worse for the handful still mentally aware - imagine that you literally believed you'd never grow old - and here you are, 80 or 90, broken body, pain, grief, knowing you've got at most a year or 2 of misery & pain left before you too die....

Oh, and not only was I not supposed to graduate from high school, I wasn't ever supposed to finish elementary school (1975 & all).

Yeah, I don't think even "eclipse glasses" would be of much help if you try to watch the "Mercury Eclipse".

"...Instead, therefore, of our literature and our work's being a menace to the principles of the present government we are the strongest supporters of such ideals."

Once again, for emphasis, the above words were written by the leadership of Jehovah's Witnesses, and addressed to the Nazi government.
Again...Nazis. NAZIS!

Is that the one where Rutherford expresses his admiration for Hitler? If so, that would make them in high demand, which would drive the price up.

They're already churning out dozens of videos a month - granted, a large number of them are just of the "point a camera at a talking head" variety, but still, they're producing an awful lot with what they have now.
Maybe they're going to branch into some sort of "entertainment" shows? Like a weekly series about uber-dubs who always "set a good example" despite "Satanic attacks"? Or the adventures of Norm & Nelly Need-Greater as they traipse to Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Mozambique, etc.?
Or maybe more movies than the once-a-year convention dramas?

Didn't they say during the meeting that they expected all their buildings to survive Armageddon, or at least all their Bethel buildings?
So it shouldn't make a difference to a brain-dead full-on JW believer if they say "it will be finished in 2026" - they'll just think "ah, so it will be finished after Armageddon".
JWs have not "woken up" despite (literally) centuries of failed prophecy, thousands of cases of sexual abuse, thousands of needless deaths due to the blood prohibition, thousands of families broken up, thousands of JWs committing suicide....why would the mention of "2026" make any difference?

Asking the president of a nation to dig up "dirt" on a potential political rival is a "thing of value" for an election.
