findingmyway: It depends on the individual. Some 18 year olds have the maturity level of a 13 year old. By the time I was 18, I had full-time employment, I was living on my own, and I was caring for my own physical needs. My parents' next door neighbors still have their 33 year old son living in their basement. Not sure exactly what that says about him, but ever since I moved out he's been saving for a house and he's only 1 year older than I. I truely think it's also because of the parents/guardians impact on the individual and the environment....but yes the individual has the MOST IMPORTANT DECISIONS TO MAKE.They are in control of their lives. You had it hard finding. But you've survived and learned about life at an early age. Yes I know someone who is in his 40's and live home with his two aged parents - he does nothing except stay in the house whole day. Hibe

Insomniac:
An eighteen yr-old is old enough to drive a car. - hoping that they did not buy their license
Old enough to wed without their parents' permission. - hoping that they are mature enough and not get divorced the next week
Old enouth to go to R and NC-17 movies. - I'm not so sure about this but it was designated this way
Old enough to smoke. - poor lungs and teeth
Old enough to be sent to prison if they've commited a crime. - I think if anyone does crime whatever age they should be sent to prison
Old enough to vote. - yes this is world wide
Old enough to enlist in the military and fight, maybe die, in a war. - hmm yes - it's just hard to take in...they die and they have not even lived yet
In other words, socially and legally, they are adults, not kids. Treat them like kids and they'll act accordingly; treat them like adults, and they may well surprise you with the depth of their maturity.- true but sometimes 18 year olds tend to say "I'm an adult and very mature" but truely they are far from it in every way! Eg I knew this person when she was 18 ...she said "I'm mature" Why> Because she has a man???

Mind your manners!
by hibiscusfire inhow would you handle situations?.
sometimes people know the right thing to do but yet do otherwise.
what would you really do in certain cases even if you know or don't know the acceptable thing?.

Usually I feel uncomfortable telling the person so I held my breath and offered them a mint.

ideally....
A delicate task. It will be hard for the offending person to hear, so handle it with diplomacy and sincerity. Tell the individual that you would like to speak with him or her. Set up a meeting or a lunch - strictly private. There must be no chance of another coworker walking in on this conversation, so set aside a special time and place.
Tell your coworker you have noticed lately that there is a problem. If it's a body odor problem, tell him or her you have noticed lately that their deodorant is no longer working. Suggest that every so often, deodorants quit doing their job and that a solution could be as simple as changing brands.
Be non-accusatory; be positive. Your role is that of a supporter and a helper.
Tell them you'll keep checking back to see if the problem is solved. I often hear from folks that say the talk did some good for awhile but, for whatever reason, the coworker went back to how it was before. So, they need to know you are expecting change, and that you are going to follow up.
False sincerity shows through. If you feel that you cannot be sincere, elect another of your coworkers to take on the task. Also, it will probably be more comfortable for the coworker with the problem to hear this information from someone of the same sex.
