would you still be a jw if you had not been disfellowshipped?

what do you think would encourage the jw's enormously right now?.
another war, a pandemic, a meteor striking the earth, bird flu in the us?
To get an effing life. Sorry I'm bitter - I got REALLY sick of being judged.

"when you receive an encouraging shepherding visit, why not express appreciation for it?
" wt may 1, 2006, p. 21 pp.
sorry for stealing your thunder blondie, but this suggestion really struck home.
During the last shepherding call my husband and I had the Elder commended us on not having a TV in our living room.
Our big screen TV was in the rec room in the basement - too big for the upstairs living room that we never really used anyway.....

i know you are sick of that phrase by now....because jdubs use it all the time when referring to 'apostates'.
they come on this forum or (people you know) generalize 'apostates' as though we are of different class...that we are no longer human.
they are obviously fed these little tid-bits about 'apostates' from the society since i am sure they don't personally know many.
I don't like being labeled period - but I really don't like using the term apostate. From the time I was really little the term apostate was used (in hushed tones, of course) to describe Joel Stanley - a former witness who would picket outside of our Disctict Convention in MA. We werent even allowed to look in his direction as we walked into the civic center.
I guess the term just has a REALLY bad connotation to me. The witnesses find a way to demonize anyone who doesn't think like they do and it's sick.

when i was a witness, i was told that a responsible witness purchased a car that was able to be used in field service.
as an example, it would have four doors to allow easy entry for a car group of 4 to 6 people.
it was something that was not to showy, meaning it was not a lexus or something that would make it seem that witnesses were materialistic, especially when working a poor part of the community.
Yup, I did then and I do now. I have an old four door Volvo that I LOVE. It's too hard to get a screaming, protesting 17 month old into/out of a two door car so I guess I'm stuck with a family-mobile for the time being.

i've been reading you all for a couple years now, it's about time i post.. the first thing i would like to say is....thank you.
without this forum, who knows what my life would be like.
you all have been such a big help to me since i left the witnesses about 4 years ago, and i'm very grateful to you all!.
Hi Gymbob-
Welcome! I'm more of a reader than a poster too - it takes all kinds.

i am one confused dude and need serious therapy.
leaving is very tough.
my family are in a life and death race to save me before "the end".
Hi Race,
Welcome to the board. Glad to have ya - the more the merrier. You'll find lots of information and support here. As an adult, I am so relieved that I NEVER again have to explain my choices in life to anyone. Just food for thought.

since the last few days, i pass right in front, and i noticed the vines growing on the side of the kingdom hall.
now, the whole side wall is completely covered with vines.. looking at the vines, it reminded me of a face with a goatee or a beard.
so, if they can have vines on their building, a brother should be allowed to have a goatee....
Yup, I do - A few times a week, and I cringe every time thinking about all of the hundreds of hours I wasted there. Oh well, at least I'm not STILL wasting my life there.

i was thinking how unnatural it is for most people to knock on stranger's doors and tell them that if they don't respond to what they were trying to get across, that they were going to be killed by god.
.....then there's the obligation to join the theocratic ministry school and go on a platform and give talks---even if you had a phobia!
.....or you're made to feel that you must answer at the meetings even if you're extremely shy.....are there other things that you can think of that made you totally uncomfortable?
Giving talks in the TMS
Not going to college
Not being able to date in High School
Not being able to play sports
Not being able to make friends w/anyone who wasn't a witness
it is perhaps one of the greatest ironies i will ever witness in my life.
more than all other religions i know, jehovahs witnesses ardently emphasize the need to flee from idolatry.
no crosses, no holidays, no national emblems dont hang posters of pop culture icons, dont emulate worldly athletes or celebrities jehovahs witnesses are intensely concerned about committing idolatry, but they cannot see that their devotion to the watchtower society is as idolatrous as a thing could be.
Amazing point - And so obvious to me now that I'm out. No matter how many times I heard those scriptures as a JW, I never made the connection. I guess what's even more amazing is that while you're a witness you're convinced that you're following those scriptures, not doing the exact opposite. -Happy
