  Hi Mindchild,

  One point that I didn't see mentioned is very crucial to this discussion:

  If your research and writings are important to you, then save them to disk. They will always be yours!

  You don't have to put all of your eggs in one basket.

  Post here, post there, see where you get a response. Nothing wrong with posting the same thing on two different discussion boards.

  You never know what response you will get. Divide your time accordingly if this is very important to you, as I am sure it is. You may get more response here for one thread and more response somewhere else for another thread.

  I of course am not saying spend more time online than ever before!

  Just use multiple browser windows! he he he

  I don't know if I have replied to any of your posts, but I have read several of them. I have really enjoyed them.

  My feelings will not be hurt if you post somewhere else in the future. But should you decide to cut and paste that stuff here also, more power to you! That only takes 5 seconds....

  everyone wants to find meaning and purpose in their life.

  people who have been taught to believe in the bible seek stuff in the bible to give them meaning in their life.

  some people make up stuff supposedly based on the bible to give them meaning in their life.. the watchtower society goes one step further: they make up stuff supposedly based on the bible to give their corporation meaning and importance in life.. far too many true believers have a difficult time accepting what should be obvious to any rational human: the bible meant exactly what it said.

  bttt with this excellent post! Isn't it crazy how banal this stuff seems in retrospect?!!

  It is so clear that the 1914 prophecy was designed to fit the expectations of the time. No question.

  Would any sane person today independently come up with that date? For that reason? No. Not even the WTS would come up with this kind of B.S. nowadays. But since it's tradition and it works, the 'logic', or lack therof actually, persists.

  Maybe someday everyone will wake up to this at the SAME TIME! Hopefully!

  that question was asked of active jws in good standing by richard hickman, whom many of you know, when he was doing research for a book he was writing.

  My ex-gf's father owned a gun. He was inactive, but came to the memorial every year.

  Apparently, he still believes it is 'the truth'.

  Probably the only reason he isn't active is that he wants to keep his gun and the elders disagree.

  So if it came down to it, he'd probably shoot me to protect her. He would often conspicuously polish his gun or knives when I was there.

  Please don't tell him the end is coming soon. I fear what would happen.

  How Long A JW ( Baptised )?

  i frequently read on this board that somebody has 'been a jw for over 25 years' and then learn that they are in fact 25 years and three days old.. i am very easily confused, in fact i actually got inside a car of similar color to my own recently and spent at least five minutes with a furrowed brow trying to force my car key into its ignition, fortunately, i realised my error before i was arrested.

  so, just to humor me, can you all post how long you were/are baptised jw's?.

  I was baptised at 15 (in March of 1993)

  Appointed M.S. at 22 (Jan 2000) during senior year at university

  Removed from M.S. just before graduation (June 2000)

  Stopped attending shortly afterward (Feb 2001)

  Joined JW discussion board (Dec 2001)

  Adams naming of the animals?

  may 1, 1968 p 271 has been sited on another post and it goes, thus, adam's naming of the animals.

  just who in the hell was he naming them for.

  wasn't he doing this prior to having eve.

  Hey Thirdson,

  that was a good question, about who invented the sword.
  I put that question to a friend of mine about a year and a half ago.

  His reply "well God did".

  And of course that's the only alternative. But this does not make sense. Why would God invent the sword?

  And even if he did, how would Adam have conveyed the word for sword or even the method for manufacturing it to his children outside of the garden?

  Adam learned metallurgy? What did he eat if he spent all his time mining for iron? Must rule that out. What was the sword made of? Wood?

  That one really makes no sense.

  The bible is replete with such anachronisms!

  Fear and pain and death...

  do you fear death?if so,do you fear it because of the pain that is likely to go along with it?or because of what will become of your soul(your self)after death?.

  curiosly,i find that i no longer fear death.not that i want to die-i don't.but i wonder if this how i should feel.. i don't like pain,but i have a fairly high threshold of pain,i think.i'm sure there is much greater pain than what i have experienced,but though i avoid it when at all possible(including spankings...sorry chat babes),i'm not afraid that i can't deal with it if i have to.. likewise death,i just have no great fear of it anymore.i don't think that it's due to my beliefs about what will happen after i die...i don't have any.sure,i was raised a j.w.,instilled from birth with the idea that if i didn't survive armageddon,that i'd be resurrected thereafter.but i don't buy that anymore...neccesarily.nor do i believe in the heaven or hell concept...neccesarily.i do believe that if i'm the best kind of person i can be,then it will have to be good enough for whatever,if anything,lies beyond the life i'm living now.. in talking to others,though,i find very few(if any)people who don't have a pretty high degree of fear about death.it has me wondering,and i'd appreciate your comments.. cowboy.

  After all, we have all been previously in a state of non-existence. Forever and ever before we were born, that is.

  Death is kinda like that all over again.

  Doesn't really hurt, does it? ;)

  By the way, I just had a pretty morbid dream in which I knew I was going to die (violently too) so I was talking myself out of fear.

  alamogordo, new mexico (ap) -- as hundreds protested nearby, a church group burned harry potter and other books.

  jack brock, the christ community church founder and pastor, said the books burned sunday were "a masterpiece of satanic deception." .

  Worried about my Dad in hospital :(

  we visited angharad's parents at the weekend and got a call on sunday night from her sister who'd been called by my sister as they hadn't been able to contact us .... the message was not a happy one:.

  my dad has had a heart attack and was in intensive care in hospital.. it was a while before i managed to speak to anyone over there with people probably out but i eventually spoke to his wife who says he's doing ok and has now been moved to the main ward but is being kept in as you would expect.

  he may have to be moved to calgary for some investigation / tests.. he had heart surgery about 15 years ago and i think 4 of his 5 bypasses have failed so he has to take quite a bit of medicine for pain and stuff.

  I'm very sorry to hear about your father.

  He won't be offended if you visit him?

  Sounds like no. You can be there for him. Why not, invite others in the family too.

  They may act 'offended' but they should appreciate that you thought of them.

  Anyhow enough advice all I really wanted to say was take care of him and wish him well! Good luck!
