Congratulations Class of 2005

well my cousin graduated from high school yesterday and it was a very hard time for me as it just reminds me of all the opportunities i passed up, so please jehovah's witness children, go to college and get an education, dont waste your youth slaving away for the watchtower society.

you can be anything you want to be and go anywhere you want, but a good education is needed.

you dont have to suffer financially like i did for so many years.. .

It wasnt just a university education they discourged. When I left school in 1986 at schools in our area you were able to leave bang on your 16th birthday, if that came sooner than leavers day. Also you were given a month off before sitting your GCSEs (then O levels) as study leave. The number of witnoids I knew who left school as soon as they were able to and DIDNT EVEN sit their GCSE's, just to gain a couple of extra lousy months to poineer was worrying.

In retrospect it was people who werent too bright anyway, and probably would have dropped out without being dubs. This just gave them a god backed excuse for dropping out. It only hurt the bright ones, and as they were a minority, and were 'independent thinkers' anyway, what did it matter.

I went back to do A levels at college after I got married but was still a dub, cos I was struggling to find work, I really had to fight my corner against the thickos who must have thought I was learning class A witchery, instead of Mathematics.

The education thing is one of my biggest resentments, I became a f00king window cleaner (I later obtained straight A's at A level and a law degree in my late 20's), I worked for £1an hour (before National Minimum Wage came in) in a f00king fruit and veg shop, I did part time cleaning for my mums bible study.

What kills me the most is that my mum now gets mad at me and says I NEVER wanted you to quit school and become a window cleaner, I dont know why you didnt listen to me, it tore me apart to see you doing those worthless jobs blah blah blah. I said you didnt have much clout compared to a lifetime of brainwashing. (brainwashing that she reinforced by being a regular pioneer for years - leading by example)

I remember they used to say from the platform "when the big A comes and you have to stand before Jehovah and justify what you have done with your time, what will you say to him?" Well I coundnt argue with that, sure Id feel pretty bad stood there infront of the big guy, turning my feet in, squirming trying to justify why going to college was more important than warning thousands of people that their lives were in danger.

Ahhhh now Kingdom Melodies... I bl00dy well hated that Lazarus song, but I used to love the songs that couldnt rhyme properly so resorted to a half rhyme, like Move and Love.

Half the cong would sing Moove and Loove, while the other half bravely tried to sing Luv. But then really, Moove came first, so you got caught out and by the time you came to Love (you could see it coming at the end of the line) you were in a sweat thinking do I force it to rhyme or will I be true to myelf and spoil this wonderful melody to God by singing the word as it sounds. That decisive line used to last a lifetime.

Guys I was always true to myself and sang LUV real loud.

Guess thats why I left.

I want back pay for all my expense-One million and counting

yes friends i will settle for 1 million dollars after 32 years in the watchtower-all the money i spent for gas--all those back calls-turned down promotions- having doors slammed in my face--thirty two christmas i missed---all the friends i lost because i went crazy with this new religion-my 4 children gave up on me--they wanted no part of it--now i know why they felt that way-i want money for the pain and suffering i withstood at the assemblies--all that heat sitting in the sun--i want to be paid for mental depression that i experienced by shunning others--i want money for mental depression of them now shunning me-all the free cleaning i did at the assemblies and the hall--all the joy i missed out on--i want all my money back that i put in those donation boxes- and those tall cardboard boxes at the assemblies--i want justice--and i want it before i leave this earth--i think the watchtower can afford to pay me that money--i know they owe a lot of other people that left--but i have to blow my own bugle--i want justice--after all it takes a lot of money to live today-- i should have went to college like i had planned--instead i ended up selling things at a flea market-but all i was told that i was putting jehovah first--bull--i was putting the watchtower first--i was warned in 1973 not to do it--but i didnt listen--the end of the world was coming--1975 was just around the corner--what dam corner were they talking about?

and this darn thing about a light getting brighter--what does that mean?

thirty two years and i still dont know about this light--the watchtower can send my check to [email protected] not asking much of them--just send the check--and while they are at it they should send ray franz a check for 45 million dollars--they owe him a million for each year he was slaving for them--oh well you get the picture--thanks for letting me share--john hag

How about they just give me my money back for all the publications I placed but didnt dare ask the householder for a contribution to cover the cost of the printing, so instead I put the money in myself.

Or all the money I spent on buying an order of magazines I knew I would never place in a year of sundays, so I just ended up placing them with the dustbin men!

Or how about they just give my mum back her gold wedding ring that she donated to go towards the building of a new assembly hall, that was unneccessarily lavish, because we realised later we were in competition with the one they had built down south, and we were up north, and we were equally as good as them snobby southern witnesses, just because we were up north didnt meant WE couldnt spend stink loads of money too on a posh hall.

I went out later and bought back everything I had chucked out.

Maybe - if we could get a transcript of the talk and play it backwards through a tape player (yes i spent hours trying to do that too) we would hear the words "this talk is brought to you by the letter $ and the number 4, and is sponsored by Sony"

Thanks for the lyrics I found them hilarious, and touching, respectively.

I remember a quite serious elders wives debate about the Tracy Ulman cover of "Move over Darling" and how we were actually allowed to listen to it because, in the film it came from, the woman who sang it was married to the 'darling', but how we shouldnt listen to Frank SInatras "My Way" because of its worldly sentiments. Jeez, how anal can you get.

Led Zeppelin (that hurt the most)

I asked my dad if I was allowed to keep Duran Duran, because it had a song on called 'New Religion' but I promised dad it was nothing to do with me wanting a new religion.

many of us have shared in these projects, and honestly, some of my best and worst memories of the 'friends' were had at these crazy events.

Worst quick build i went on (in retrospect) was the one where I met my now ex husband. We just jelled that weekend, then we got married, then we got divorced a long time later.

Best quick build I ever went on was when I met a Real Cute young builder. He was only 18 when I was 24 and married, but god he was gorgeous, I couldnt take my christian eyes off him. Six years later newly divorced, and newly out of the cult we smoked pot together and had one fantastic night of sex.

I worked on the Hellaby assembly build. I remember thinking what a con it was - they kept asking for volunteers and when we got there there was nothing to do. Also they said no jeans, so I dutifully turned up in a pair of wanky old farrahs of my dads. When I got there EVERYONE was in jeans except me! I remember thinking 'how am I gonna pull in these'.

Anyways my old congregations are Batley West Yorkshire, Portswood Southampton and Gloucester. Does anyone know Sarah or Mark Leighton from London Bethel? Theyre ex relatives, id love to catch up.

JW terminology really gets my goat

i don't know if its just me or if anyone else feels the same but it really annoys me when jehovahs witnesses use their terminology when speaking to a non jw.. for example, a jw woman is talking to a collegue who has never had a bible study and knows nothing about jws.. instead of saying "i have a friend coming for tea tonight" the woman says " one of the sisters is coming for tea tonight".. or, instead of "i was talking to a friend on the phone last night" she says "i was talking to an elder on the phone last night".. it just really winds me up, i think they do it to seem important and mysterious but it only leaves the other person confused.

"Worldly" - I dont even know if that is a real word or a witnoid word - do non dubs use that word?

"debased" - as in nearly every album you ever wanted to own was re-classified as music that debases. My friend threw out all his Queen albums and his little brother snook them back in and claimed them as his own!

"ones" - used instead of 'people', e.g. such ones will be detroyed. Just irritatingly poor grammar.

"marked" - when you had done nothing wrong but they just didnt like the cut of your jib, so they invented this whole new category inbetween publisher and disfelowshiped called 'marked'.

"disapproved associate" - then they realised they couldnt dis non baptised people, but they didnt want them to escape punishment just because they hadnt become a card carrying member, so they invented another new category that fell between condemned and unbaptised publisher.

"approved associate" - to make you feel like you were an unpaid but highly valuable Walmart worker.

What is the dumbest reason you where taken to the back room?

mine was for giving a sister that i grew up with the watchtower that dealt with birthdays being on the same level as anniversaries.

she quit going because she could not understand the societies position on birthday's.

the elders were mad because i knew how she would react and they thought i did this to cause problems.

I bought a winter coat from a second hand shop, and apparently it buttoned up the wrong way, so I was taken into the back room and told that I was wearing a mans garb and would be prevented from pioneering if I didnt remove the coat. The elder confessed he didnt know which way the buttons were supposed to go either but had looked it up specially so he could admonish me. What a guy!
