  Scully, thats really terrible.

  I have an idea that children probably dont know whats OK and whats not, because after all if an adults doing it, and an adult in good standing with god (we are brainwashed to understand that much from an early age) then it must be OK, right? Probably the most a kid thinks is that something is a bit creepy, or they dont like the feel of it.

  Even given the publicity of this case, what are the odds that a child will read the paper, recognise the man and identify their experience with the ones in the paper. If he has abused recently it might well go undetected.

  I cant help wondering how many more victims there are. I mean how do you find out if your baby has been abused?

  Even assuming the child can talk, can it know the words to describe what has happened? Does it know what has happened and whether it was appropriate or not?

  I am willing to bet that for every victim that came forward there is one that hasnt for a variety of reasons.

  you: the tragic thing is, the judge didn't send him to jail, but only gave him a community rehabilitation order.

  and the church won't even take disciplinary action against him... he's still in a position to abuse more victims.. dub: end times... corrupt judges blabla .. false religion... whore of babylon yadda yadda.

  GOOD POINT!

  You could keep them talking for ages about it if they thought it was a catholic priest. They'd be bitchin' on for ages about 'aint it awful' and how corupt false religion was.

  But as soon as they realised it was a JW there'd be a terrible silence while those tumble weeds blew across the road...

  There were a couple of times when kids were made the subject of a court order to give them a blood transfusion and I remember getting it in the neck as "oh, youre those people who let their kids die". (I dont remember ever having to defend a case where a kid died, because the court always made sure they got the tranfusion in time).

  I always had some pat answer like "well people have always given their lives for causes they believe in, like going to war".

  I wonder what his wife Joanne is thinking now? I know she appeared to support him in court, but she surely must be wondering about a man who prefers sex with 18 month old babies to sex with her.

  She may be counting her blessings that she never got pregnant by him.

  How the WT Study is Used by the Governing Body

  now that i have been out of the borg for a while, it has occurred to me that one of the biggest weapons they use to keep everyone indoctrinated is the watchtower study.. elders are told that the wt study is the primary way that the faithful and discreet slave feeds the flock of god today.

  it is easily the most formulatic.. consider, the content is 100% controlled.

  (i would also add, made up fiction.

  As an intelligent person (!) I always found the questions embarrassingly simple.

  In addition someone once posted on this forum how many times the material is repeated when you study the WT. First of all you read it and then identify and underline the answers in your pre study. Often the answer is a rewording of the question. You generally look up at least some of the cited scriptures which are rewordings of what has been written in the paragraph. Thats 3 repetitions so far.

  Then you sit in the study and listen to a brother read the paragraphs (4), then someone answers the question (5) then someone reads the cited scriptures (6). All of this is repetitions of very simple no brainer points. By this time your brain has shut down to any thinking or processing it might have been tempted to do under normal circumstances.

  Brainwashing at its finest.

  Yes, we know the papers are not entirely reliable and the issue of his position has been reported differently in different papers. His sister just said hes 'trusted'. That could mean anything.

  I think it must be absolutely terrifying for anyone who has ever let him have contact with their kids, working with him in field service, etc

  Who the hell lets a grown man babysit though???? To my mind thats a teenage girls job. And who the hell lets a child go to an adults house for a sleepover???? My daughter goes to 9 year old girls houses for sleepovers because shes a 9 year old girl. Honestly, some parents are f**kwits of the highest order. There must be a lot of parents thinking back years now trying to work out if their kids were ever in danger. Truly horrible.

  If the judge had not given such a lenient sentence I wonder if we would have heard about this case? The media are mad about the non custodial bit, not the fact that he is a JW (although this is receiving a fair amount of coverage too, thank goodness).

  I remember a registered sex offender beginning a bible study with a family in the cong I attended in the 90's. The police contacted the elders and advised GREAT caution, but the brother who was studying with him felt that he was trustworthy with his 3 children all under the age of 11. I suppose it was such a good brownie point to have a bible study reported on his S8 every month, he didnt want to hand him over to a single brother.

  I found out about it because me and my then husband were bestest bestest friends with a couple where the man was a (looselipped!) elder, who occasionally told us state secrets. The rest of the congo were not privy to the fact that this man was a registered sex offender.

  I dont know if the paedo ever became a JW because I left soon after. He probably married the brothers daughter. Well, she was 11!

  I remember being a JW when unfortunate stories hit the media. It was usually some child dying from lack of blood though, I never remember having to defend a paedo.

  But I know what I would have said: "well, they werent really a proper Jehovahs Witness, im sure they have been disfellowshipped". Of course the fact that hes an elder shows he WAS a proper JW, and the fact that the JW's havent come out immediately telling the media that he has been D'fed shows that he hasnt.

  Its going to be very difficult on the doors. As you say spreading the good news surely doesnt include defending paedos.
