Would you go to the Memorial?

since i was raised as a jw i have never missed the memorial.. now since i have been df'd i"m not sure whether i will go or not.

my wife is still a jw.

should i go for her sake or not?.

Not to sound rude, but why would you want to go to this made up event?

The entire event is a lie, it is based on make-believe doctrine, based on incorrect interpretation and the practice is neither consistent or enforced (re: 144,000). Why any logical sane person with reasonable deduction skills would want to sit and partake of this pseudo-spiritual celebration is beyond me, especially after they have "awakened". The only way I can see the possible justification of going is to support your wife. But don't you realize as long as JWs feel they have a shred of a string to control you or infer their will over you, they will pull on it like a noose? You have free will, use it. Just think about taking this as an opportunity to break free of this group-think and find your individuality.

Can someone explain Paradise earth for me.

my mother has brought up this issue a few times lately and i'm a bit confused.

actually she says she's confused about it and doesn't know what to believe; that what she reads in the bible contradicts what the elders say.. she said that if you die before armegeddon you become an angel, so i assume that they will never marry or have children?

if you and your current spouse both survive armegeddon you continue to be married and have children?.

How can I say this without sounding sarcastic? Hmmm, let me just be very honest:

This is some of the most fantastical, made-up, logical stretched life after death commentary, any sane person should believe. It asks you to defy logic and reason, believe something on the lines of a fictional science fiction book and let's be real honest, it makes absolutely no sense.

Here's my commentary about these type of thinking in the JW religion, as I believe this is the type of belief that points directly to the cult direction. If anyone even questions if this is truly a cult, you only need to read this explanation and the twists and turns of explanation for the JWs only. Whenever I look at mass suicides and group-think behaviors which have lead to complete isolation and such, I am always concerned that one day I will get a call from some family member saying that the "society" has received new information and that what they have to do is take some poison or move off to some isolated place away from everyone else, etc.

Pure crockery. Plain and simple.

Fornication - What does it really mean?

i've done research on the subject and realized that it really is talking about whoredom when its referenced in the bible.

any other points regarding that word?

My experience is that fornication is anything they want it to mean regarding aspects of your sexuality and engaging in such acts with someone that is NOT your spouse.

I have more to say on this subject, but I am curious to read what other's will say.

1. He brought a bucket of KFC for the event.

2. He spreads a little brie on the leven bread before partaking

3. He sips the wine, eats the leven bread and then does the "holy dance" and "speaks in tongues".

Happiness and the minds of JW's

if god is termed "the happy god" and he truly wants people to be happy, even in the present sense, then why are so many witnesses unhappy, miserable deep down inside, popping who knows what kind of prescription pills, and even driven to the point of suicide?

can witnesses ever truly measure up?

we've been told: "the new system will take care of everything"; "don't get an education in the world"; "don't save for retirement".

The Oracle, I couldn't have said it better myself.

Many of them are aware of more than a few teachings of the JW that makes absolutely no sense, but they stand by it overall because of "Jehovah"? They are indoctrinated that even when confirmed that Jehovah (name is false) is an invention in itself, they stand by it because of tradition.

It's an assocation that is controls every aspect of their life, for many it is much easier to stay "wait on Jehovah" (this concept of passivity and mind control still boggles my mind) than to break free and start fresh and new.

the wt magazine states that it has been "published continuously by jehovah's witnesses since 1879".. .

there were no jehovah's witnesses before 1931. only bible students.. .

you can't even get past the wt's "mission statement" without encountering untruth.. .

You bring up an excellent point. I remember in the media a former Witness made a huge mistake because she didn't realize that Jesus was not a Christian. And that Asians had a more continuous religion than Christianity, etc.

People truly don't understand how brainwashed and confused they have been. JW is a relatively new religion that has been renamed, and the reference of early Christians or early JWs is such a horrible falsehood, it shows how deep the mind control disinformation goes.

What will be the reaction in the congregation when...

we have many older brothers and sisters in our congregation, and surely the same in many congregations all around the world.. what will be the reaction in the congregations when all these older ones, who were sure they wouldn't die before the end, pass away and leave a vacuum in the congregation.. i don't wish these older brothers and sisters harm, but eventually they will be too old to follow and they will die away.. it won't be the same anymore, when they see these old pillars who stood so faithfully crumble due to old age.. .

I think this is a very good question. So many people thought they would never ever die. That was the selling point and the whole fear of Armeggedon. And the whole, "a generation will not past" etc. Well guess what, they are going to all die. Armeggedon isn't happening everyone and all those 1914 generation are dying by the dozen.

I really believe in the next ten years there is going to be a falling off like never before and they are going to restructure the entire belief system because they will have no choice. Because they attributed so much of their belief to certain times and generations, people are going to realize how fake they really are.

Dating and the ex-JW

i am still surfing around this forum and i am happy to see there is are topics related to relationships.

it is nice to see this here.. to be honest, ever since i was out of the jw religion, i have tossed over ever dating an ex jw or an inactive jw.

i have occasionally come across this situation and weighed both the pros and cons.

Thanks for all the responses, it has really given me insight. I wouldn't mind making some friends first and anyone that wants to introduce themselves privately feel free. I am still in the stages of finding out about all of this - the website, so I have the newbie thing going on and the death of a loved one going on.

Again, I don't wear the ex-JW thing on my head at all really. I rarely think about it and just refer to it occasionally when something arises. I broke myself out of thinking pro or con JW, and just living and thinking and finding myself. I haven't really put too much thought into any of this until going to that funeral, ugh. Now I realize as my parents are getting older and grandparents that I will have to deal with the JW thing a lot more. Anyone can relate to that, would be great.

Oh, by the way, I am in the VA area, if anyone close wants to say hello.

I am still a bit numb, writing here does help. Maybe because it was the first time I had set foot in a KH in about eight years, it brought back a lot of things. One thing that stood out in my mind was a statement an inactive JW family member made to me. He said, "I think the reason why so many of us are so shaken up is that we truly aren't prepared to deal with death. We were raised that the New Order would be here and we wouldn't have to die". I realized for the first time why I was so traumatized and devastated. No real death preparation, even though I had some educational intellectual experience, personally, there was a disconnect. How do many of you reconcile death now that you are no longer with the JW religion? How do you deal with going to the funerals of the JWs? I was sitting there just completely broken up and on top of it the entire "Memorial" was just strange. All the practicing JWs want to be cremated, which is a personal choice, but the entire sermon made absolutely no sense to me. First, they say the dead are conscious of nothing at all and that dust returns to dust. Okay, got that. Then twenty minutes later you are writing how they will be resurrected and conscious? And then criticizing those that believe in heaven and the like? I just closed my eyes and remembered all the good times I shared with my family member and drowned out the hypocrisy, but I must admit this week or so has been hard. Can anyone else relate to what I am speaking about?
