  The Butchering of the English Language.

  i am disturbed by the recent trend in the media in america that encourages the butchering of our english language.. i'm talking about examples of film titles like "she hate me", "how she move", & "baby mama".

  does it really take that much effort to add an "s" to the end of a word?

  now, before i am decried as a racist, please note that nowhere in any of my statements have i isolated any particular race.

  What????? I work in a school. You don't think we teach this stuff, do you? We work hard to combat improper English, but how do we possibly have control over the way students speak at home?

  Of course I don't think you teach this stuff, but the US Educational system is in shambles. Too many students are put in special education for behavioral problems, kids are being promoted to grades without the ability to read and write properly. Trust me, I have taught at the university level and you would be surprised at undergraduates coming in that can't read and write properly.

  I just wanted to add, that speaking and knowing proper standard English is quite differently than spelling and grammar errors. I minored in journalism in college and worked as an editor and even editors sometimes need editors, which is why they have copy editors. Of course, gross mistakes is a sign of a serious deficiency, but I have seen some brilliant minds such professors, teachers on all levels, that make some horrible spelling and grammar issues, at times. Why do you think they invented spelll check?

  I do believe and agree that languages are fluid and change over time.

  Elderly parents and the Book Study

  do any of you have elderly jw parents?

  my mom is 89, good health and very active jw.

  her world is the local congergation and 5meeting per week.she has her sunday outfits, tues, school dress, and thurs afternoon more casual styles.

  I totally understand this topic, my grandparents entire existence revolves around this KH. My grandmother now a widow has only the KH activities, the few other sisters that look in on her, as her entire life. Her children and grandchildren try to visit her, but honestly, her entire interaction and social activity is the JW. When my grandfather passed, one sister with no husband moved in with her. The thing is my grandmother is getting to frail and her health is getting bad, I suggested she join a senior center and move into a very nice nursing home - of course my family won't even discuss it.

  Which lead me to the question of, if the JW have so many religious doctrines that set them apart from "the world", why not have senior centers and retirement homes strictly for them, like the Catholics and Jewish religions?

  Why do they call it "The Truth" ?

  if the "truth" keeps changing shouldn't they call it "in search of the truth"?

  an orange is always an orange, and apple always an apple they do not change.

  so how is it "truth" can change?

  The butchering of the English shouldn't be a race issue because all races are guilty of it. There is casual speech and then there is proper english, in casual speech people speak in a variety of ways depending on their background. I have spoken with people from different parts of the country who speak a different slang that I can barely understand. If you go to other countries, there is a slang that is spoken with each other, but when in business dealings and such, they speak the proper language. What happens in this country is that somehow slang becomes supported in media and in other venues and that's why we have these issues. I also blame the education system.

  IF I did the right thing why do I feel so bad?

  i noticed a few minutes ago 2 sisters are on the block over from me.

  i have told them over the past year to put me down on the do not call on list.

  i figure it's going to ignored, so i printed out the 1981 boe british letter about child molestation and protection of elders and the amended page on that subject from the flock book (the one with the co's handwrittten notes) and stuck it in the handle of my screen door.. .

  Because you're acting against years of conditioning.

  I couldn't have said it better. People go through various emotions, it's okay, you are human. Confrontation is not an easy thing, and even sometimes when you are doing the right thing, you may feel bad about it inside, but you will be fine. You are human.

  hi.. just wondering what made you take the final leap out of the org?

  was it doctrinal in that certain things just didnt add up or was it because of the actions of people in the org.

  The hypocrisy of the people caused me to look at the doctrine, the repeated changing of beliefs over the years made me look at the rationale, and after such time, I was done.

  You think the witnesses are trained monkees, but you behave like children, looking for something to run back and make fun of.

  I think that's a bit harsh, but sometimes I think some of us here are too engrossed in what they do - intellectually I understand why, but I just think the pull of them is really deep with some and I just don't think it is good. I have mild interest in what they do, as it relates to my family, but otherwise, it is not important to me whatsoever.

  I am also convinced something is up and personally I could care less what the WTS did, they could implode from within and I wouldn't bat an eye personally, however, since I have family members involved, that is a lot of the reason I read these threads.

  I always have a concern that they will really up the ante and do something like move somewhere away from the rest of the world and ask all the faithful JWs to do so, cutting themselves off from the rest of the world, and deciding Armaggedon is here and making them take cocktails or something along those lines..

  The baptist don't speak in tongues.

  I would have to disagree with that. I am not a baptist, but when I left the JW religion, I spent time at a few religions and one of them was the baptist church of someone I used to work with and not only that I went to their "bible study" on Friday evenings and I have to tell you that on Sunday, it is just as I related. Lots of Hallejuah's, tamborine shaking and someone saying something in an indescribable tongue. I asked about it, so I know what I saw. No, it wasn't like the Penecostals, but I saw maybe two or three doing every time I went.

  They would clap if the Governing Body decided through God's wisdom that the Easter Bunny was a divine spirt of Jesus and Santa Claus was the embodiment of Jehovah.

  It's like going to a Baptist church and hearing the pastor call them dummies, ignorant and full of the spirit of Satan and they say "hallejuah" and start speaking in tonuges...
