Personally, I think if you are married, you should just be up front. It's better that way, IMO.
my wife burst into the computer room and found me {gasp} talking with apostates on this site!
now she doesn't go witnessing anymore and only very rarely goes to a meeting...but talking to apostates is not on!
i quickly closed down but had to log-off later so she doesn't find out that iam "witness 007.

I really love this quote:
"Everybody loves a hero. People line up for them, cheer them, scream their names. And years later, they'll tell how they stood in the rain for hours just to get a glimpse of the one who taught them how to hold on a second longer. I believe there's a hero in all of us, that keeps us honest, gives us strength, makes us noble, and finally allows us to die with pride, even though sometimes we have to be steady, and give up the thing we want the most. Even our dreams…"
Guess the movie.
there has been some talk recently on jwd about disfellowshipping, and some questions regarding what would get you df'ed.. not all the answers provided have been accurate, so i thought i would share some info that would help clarify everything for anyone who was interested.. here is the numbered list of 15 specific disfellowshipping offenses from the elders handbook..... manslaughtersexual misconduct, including adultery, fornication, and other forms of "porneia"apostasydrunkennesssteiling, thievery, frauddeliberate, mailicious lying; bearing false witnessreviling, slanderobscene speechfailure to abstain from bloodgreed - gambling, extortionadamant refusal to provide material for one's own familynonneautral activitiesfits of anger, violencemisuse of tobacco or addictive drugsloose conductlet me know if anyone requires any clarifiying information on any of this.
i will be unavailable for a while, but i'll answer any questions later.. later,.
the oracle.
However, the real truth is I know people and have known people who have committed just about every one of those offenses and not be DF'd. It is all about how sorry you are and how the group of three men interpet your guilt. And let's face it, if you have an "in". The people that judge you are not truly qualified to make assessments, they just interview you a couple of times, see if you will beg for the mercy of Jehovah and there you go.
i just got off the phone with my sister-in-law.
we don't talk regularly at all - but today the discussion turned to our beliefs.
she's da'd herself 15 years ago, but she is still filled with guilt over not being able to live up to the standards of the witnesses.
That phenomena has always boggled my mind. I came across a few DA'd, inactive and DF'd people who for whatever reason can't participate in the religion "as is" but still hold on to the basic doctrines and believe it is the "one true religion". I have an aunt who has been DF'd for at least twenty years and she still puts JW's on some kind of spiritual pedestal. And that is after they (the congro) treat her like dirt, especially when it comes to doing things for my grandparents.
for those of you who fly which airline is your favorite ?
I like Southwest because I love their prices and they are reasonable. I use them most of the time.
If money isn't an issue, Jet Blue or US Airways.
i knew a few like that , the worst one was local congregation paedophile that had so much to say about others , when i look back now at some of the things he used to judge people for , what a damn cheek he had considering the things he had done that hadnt come out at that point in time.
I have known several actually. One example comes from Sacramento, CA. Three elders held an ill-conceived judicial committee on a sister (my mom) who had been assaulted and raped. They refused to let me and my brother in to lend her support and they went over her like a Mack truck. Then they left her in limbo for six months. When my sis called the po he said he would contact my mom. He calls her on the phone and tells her, "You are disfellowshipped." The three elders involved got a visit from me on a sunday after the wt. I went in and asked them all to meet me in the little room. They said with mocking grins that they didn't have time for me, so I mentioned casually and calmly that they could accompany me now or I would carry them in one at a time. So they went. I asked them why they mistreated my mom like they did and one of them said it was their job. I told them all, to stay away from my mom and family. Out of respect for God's house they were safe, but if I saw any of them on the street, their ass was getting beaten. Well, the PO was removed for misconduct, the other two cheated on their wives and were df'd.
I read stories like that and it just breaks my heart. I was applauding you throughout the situation you retold. This is one of the biggest problems in the JW religion. Their hypocrisy toward women & young girls who have been raped and assaulted in the congregation. I know of three separate incidents were the females were actually DF'd for just reporting what happened and their men were treated like the true victims. It's horrible.
we know that the a$$emblies have become more programmed every year.
they did away with food service.
they cut off the great outdoors.
I find this whole thing hilarious. So let's just say you DO go to a subway or a chinese take out, will you then be DISFELLOWSHIPPED because of it??? Tell me, what is the supposed discpline of someone who says, "you know what, I am going down to the subway and get me a sandwich" or say, you lose your food or forget to pack it because you are rushing? I don't think this makes any sense whatsoever.
It's alright, we all have days like that. No harm done. All is forgiven.
My heart goes out to you with the issues with your dad, I dealt with many health issues with my mom and it can take you to wit's end. Peace be with you...
