Isn't it convenient that if a JW is being supported by worldly parents who are in a 'lifestlye' that isn't up to the WT standards, or an elderly person is being supported by their children who may be DF'd or just garden variety 'immoral' that it is alright to accept their help and live in the same home with them-but if those same parents or children NEED support, they don't need to be if they are not living according the their standards? OR, they are only to be supported insomuch as the law FORCES them to do? (Remember the German(?) girl who was kicked out of her home before finishing secondary school because she wouldn't be baptised-even though she was still in high school? Her parents theory being that she was 18 so they could kick her out at will?)

WT teachings are twisted like a colon and filled with the same stuff!

Castration anybody...?

personally, i would have no problem with this law.

if they want to 'rejoin' society, this should be a condition of their release.

i do not understand why human rights groups would be more concerned about these dangerous criminals...more...than children.. what do you think?.

I don't think the chemical castration is a perfect solution, but it is part of it-and a good step. Permanent incarceration brings with it a lot of other issues that society doesn't want to deal with. It is interesting the value we place on things. Madoff will be in prison the rest of his life. He took money.

My senior fire bug won't be coming home

well i got a bit of news yesterday.. the woman who has had several fires in her apartment is still in the hospital.

as some of you may have read my senior fire bug has been taken away i had applied to the courthouse to have her involutarily commited to the hospital for a psych assessment in the hopes they would recognize that she cannot live alone due to some of her problems that have resulted in fires.. over the last week a lot more information has come out.

seems she wanders the hallways in the middle of the night trying doors and banging to tell people to get out of the building.

It is good that you took this step. She will be able to get some treatment-or at least be safe-as will the rest of your building. It is sad when people get like that, but it isn't loving to just ignore it. You are good people, Lady Lee!

he "signed off" about a year ago, but i find myself wondering from time to time how he's doing.

he's one of the kindest members on this board but tended to be very critical of himself.

his health was not the best.

Apostates and the "AXE TO GRIND:" getting sick of the aggro.

does anybody else get mad, when something rotten in the borg is exposed, and witless apologists question the motive of the whistleblower?.

"they must be an evil apostate filled with anger and an axe to grind" they say.. why can they never admit that some people believe that the wtbts is truly dangerous and evil - they are not speaking up about the facts they know because they are evil resentful apostates, but they truly want to protect the public.. they refuse to acquiesce in evil and want to stand up for what they believe to be right, not just as an anti-jw knee jerk reflex.

do jws honestly think that nobody but them has good motives for exposing religious hypocrisy - including that of the witchtower?.

They have to think that because if they are honest with themselves and pull their heads out of their butts, then they would have to leave if they had any kind of true moral compass.(not just with regard to the child abuse, but that is a good starting point). Being honest with yourself requires action, and they don't want to deal with the consequences of it. JWs like to think that people leave the WT simply because life is so much easier if you leave. That's a big fat lie. After one leaves, they have to think for themselves and come to their own conclusions, values, judgements. They also lose their family connections, their social connections and often their jobs. Sure, years later, my life IS a lot better, but not because I 'get' to celebrate holidays or don't 'have' to go to meetings/FS anymore.

It is better to be free than to be a slave- free men work their asses of for their own family and loved ones and community. Not for their 'owner'. Free men do not get beaten (up OR down). If someone TRIES to beat you-as a free man, you have the right to resist it and fight back if necessary.

You may work harder, longer hours as a free man than you do as a slave, but they are YOUR hours and your rewards and consequences. That is freedom. It's hard, but a good kind of hard.

I think that suicide would have happened were this guy a JW-who knows-maybe it would have been sooner. He had no hope for this world-and JWs are like that-only on steroids. He would have less reason to LIVE if a JW and much, much more reason to think that ending it all now would be the best solution. After all, that way his kids would be resurrected to a perfect earth with none of the tempatations of 'this old system of things', thereby having a much better chance of living forever.

JWs don't offer any practical help-financially or emotionally.

Could WTS Become a Mainstream Religion?

i read threads about reform and needed changes.

i don't like the idea.

i personally think that a harmful dangerous mind-control cult should not find some way to moderate slightly to keep their membership.

My thought on this TODAY is that no. It can't ever be a mainstream religion. The only reason they have survived this long is by setting themselves apart as a peculiar kind of people. Being different is the only attraction, frankly. Want to feel special, set apart? Be a JW.

Low self esteem NEEDs to feel superior. What would the do without it?

A Smurf walked out of the Kingdom Hall

when i was a kid, i'm guessing 5 or 6 years old.

the "smurfs are demonized" rumors started spreading around.

after a few weeks of hearing that and having to throw away all my smurf toys, i was at the kingdom hall and a sister came in with a bookbag with a big picture of a smurf on it!

Joshnaz, I am sorry, but that is not any kind of creative-not the "so crazy I couldn't make this crap up" kind of thing. Creative would have been a lot more interesting. But we still wouldn't have believed that one. Smurfs are a running joke here:)

Maybe it was a fantasy and the smurf symbolized YOUR desire to walk out of the hall and never come back-to become invisible. THAT we could all relate to, friend. There is a 110 level English course on intro to creative writing. 146 on fantasy writing. Might want to try taking those classes-unless you take the extension course in fantasy interpretation offered on tuesdays from 7-9 for 3 weeks.:)
