body piercings and tattoos are a permanent reminder of a very brief time in our lives when they are the proof that we are 'independent thinkers' and not bound to what mommy/daddy wants. The cowboy can take off the boots, the hat and put on a tshirt and he is a blank slate. Once you mutiate yourself,it's hard to go back from it.

Coffee Appreciation
by FL_Panthers inas i'm making my seventh cup for the day, i thought it would be a good idea to have an appreciation thread.
what's the best ground coffee?
beans?.

7th cup? I fear contributing to your addiction! I just get a Starbucks a day (tall-venti,depending on if I share with hubby), keep the mess out of my kitchen and call it good! (I don't know how to make coffee, so I just drink tea at home. No one outside knows how to make tea, so I never drink tea outside.)
I used to like Yuban. McDonalds makes a good cup in a pinch, but I will get dunkin donuts coffee even if I am not eating a donut! (btw, plain cake ones are the best with a cup of black or regular)

So, are the brochures that are prepared for the backwater of Sindh designed to get folks in trouble for blasphemy now? That area has a LOT of Christians. Pakistani Muslim people get along well with Christians/Hindus generally, and that state/district is really not prone to this kind of thing. I just recently visited the area, so I am not just talking with no inside information. My nephew is a city official in Mirpurkhas. Many of the employees there are Christian, so I wonder about the rest of the story-That area of Sindh is NOT a hotbed of Islamists. Most Muslims are barely practicing, from what I observed.

"Honour" Killing in Pakistan
by cofty in25 year old farzana iqbal was stoned to death by a crowd led by her own father and two of her brothers outside the high court in lahore yesterday.. her crime was to reject her cousin, who her family had decided she should marry, and fall in love with a man of her own choosing.. thousands of women are murdered every year in so-called "honour killings" but convictions are very rare.
pakistani law permits victim's families to forgive a murderer, but in these cases the killers are family members who are nominated to carry out the execution by the rest of the family.. this is what happens when you allow a mysogynistic religion to influence secular law.. reuters report...l.

I'm kind of curious about how this is working internationally, in other countries that hav much less money to start with and that actually might need a KH. They have no resources to offer (significantly). Do they get loans or gifts to build halls? Assuming that the entire system works differently tax and charity wise in othr countries, historically, how have they managed those KHs in "darkest Africa" or India or the Philippines, for example.
And if they got loans, than what is the WWKH building fund all about when apparently (from what I have seen so far) NO ONE gets a 'free ride". All JWs are buyinng their ownn litrature and building their own buildings (or contributing to phantom buildings as in Mexico and So. America)

Are the Jehovah's Witnesses rewriting Jehovah's Law regarding Polygamy?
by I_love_Jeff inwatchtower: 9/15/1956 page 572.
"although for a time god permitted the israelites to practice polygamy, yet this was not gods purpose for them, nor did he command them to adopt this practice.".
verses please.

Sarah, each wife is a individual. I don't think that OT verse does much to further your take on this, but the arguements against polygamy in the NT are pretty much refutable if someone wants to bother. I sure don't think such a practice should be promoted, but so long as everyone is consenting and adult, I'm not going to fight against those seeking that right. Iwould rather have it regulated toadults than have it hidden and forced on minors against their will or using their youth and naivete.

There is no place in the Bible that forbids marriage to any number of people. In fact, the part translated that elders etc should be th husband of "one" wife could be translated as husbands of "A" wife-and as the verses go on to describe that a man needs to show that he can manage his own household, this makes sense (the word translated as one is often,in other scriptures translated as "a"or "first".)
However, I would say that polygamy is not something that most would or could accept in our day, and no one should be thinking there is some extra special righteousness in following this practice.

I think (along with Wasanelderonce) that AIDS is what did it. Hepatitis is scary enough for people to think 2x. But if it is death or an infitesimal chance of gettng a blood borne illness, I will take my chances with whatever gives me the better chance.
