My dad wasnt a JW. We had a family memorial too. Just a picnic. No jws but my mom and her bro even though dad had worked on khs and JWs homes to be nice-because he was a GOOD guy. Not by any religious measurements.

Had to go to a JW funeral yesterday.
by Crazyguy init's amazing how ones shun former witnesses or faders.
a couple of people said high to me that know i do not go but the rest no.
but the main reason i post is how ridiculous the funeral talk was.

what happens when one informs elders that one's baptism was invalid?
by quincemyles inis it possible to move from baptized publisher to unbaptized status perpetually?

Id just say to hell with it. Now. I wrote a big freaking da letter after my last run in with them (brief). I was a kid and didnt know better. I was mad:) fun to write and as it was long before aol was a sparkle in anyones eye, there was some serious reasarch involved. Waste of valuable youth! Im much older now, theyd not even getva cut and paste any more. Even if iif theyd read it, its not worth it.

Kind of messed up, since before one becomes a baptised JW, folks will speak to you. Should that not stay the same?
I don't get the wrongdoing BEFORE baptism bit in any case (that wasn't confessed). I somehow don't imagine a bunch of confessionals done before baptisms. I see education and repentence and all that, but who are we supposed to be 'confessing' to if we have put our old lives behind us? I never got to the baptism bit, when were we supposed to confess? What were were supposed to confess? If we were no longer doing it. . . whats the statute of limitations? Elders get 3 years while they ARE elders. How long do non-JWs get? Are we talking just crimes or sin?
I wouldn't go annulling a baptism. This is a SOCIAL contract, not a legal one. Marriages need to be annulled or ended officially, friendships-not so much. Even engagements are just ended by one persons declaration(or absence from the wedding party). There is nothing legally binding about it and socially, just don't show up and folks get whatever the message is, eventually.

Are There Good People Out There?
by LaurenM ineven though i'm no longer mentally a jw (i still technically am) i do recognize that there are some benefits to being raised one.
for example, the first (and only so far) wordly guy i was involved with had to smoke weed every day and got drunk all the time and that was his idea of fun.
i couldn't help but feel bad for him.

I have met and known so many that don't build their lives around drugs, alcohol or hooking up. They had well balanced families and healthy relationships. I have family that was JWs and has a lot of struggles with substance abuse and true mental illness but they are loving and close and support one another in ways that couldn't happen if they were still JWs. I don't think any good happened from being in, I think the good happened in spite of it and flourished after leaving it behind. -

.08 of Americans are JW. So, extrapolate from that, I guess.
Isn't it hard to believe that JWs have THAT MANY???? We have to stop the spread. Its like mold is to a house. damaging to the health and function of humanity.

No more subscriptions unless you have a JW who is sending them to you independently. I couldn't even get JWs to deliver to a hospital, so there is that. (years ago, after free literature came into being) -

I wonder if they worried about waste when everyone was paying (?) for each and every magazine before it left the counter and donating too? I remember my mom had hundreds of old WT's and AWAKES on 3 huge shelves above the w/d and more tucked into the attic. At some point she got rid of them (probably a fire hazard!) She now has a short pile in the house. Or she did. Haven't seen the house lately. Kind of a burden off my back!! The WT-speak is so old (and I recognize newer phrasing, too. The mentally diseased one came out recently:). And she has generations of it rolling off her tongue-she is a veritabe historical treasure of JW'yness since she was started off in WW2. -

i feel more confused than ever
by BlackWolf inwell i know i've been posting a lot of topics like this lately and i'm sorry if i sound whiny or annoying.
my parents were asking me why i was so upset lately and i ended up just telling them the whole truth.
i told them i don't believe in god or the bible because i don't have any evidence of anything.

Take a mental break. If there is anything that you are sure of, or not sure of, its ok. There are _______religions in the world on paper, but every human being on this world perceives the world and understands "the truth" differently. Every single JW even! Don't stress on it. Accept it for what it simply IS. And you can tell your mom that you don't want to burn bridges, you are too young to make eternal, irreversible (in JW they are that serious) decisions and you would appreciate her loving patience as you seek and learn. In the meantime, you will be respectful of her moral rules and curfews, etc, and you won't get into trouble because you appreciate that they are raising you to be a responsible adult. All good things she can't argue with. Jesus was 30 when he was baptised. Work hard in school, get to working and gain freedom and space as appropriate. Don't go getting tatts, piercings and experimenting with drugs and alcohol now. Its not going to help anything with your folks and might limit your options in the future, so take your time growing up and do it right! (I am not judging the tatts and piercings, I am simply watching a couple of young cousins suffer for earlier decisions that they would not now make in both of those areas. They are harder to lose than being baptised as a JW-harder to hide, for sure.) -

A word of advice clining to their persecutors ...
by SecretSlaveClass inlet me start off by saying i do not presume to have the answers, i am merely offering advice.. i will preface this posting with this, cutting a long story short:.
my sister was raped by a popular jw lad wh's dad happen to be a rock star elder.
in the attempt to fight him off his face was covered with scratches and it was reported to the police ( instead of rape he was sentenced on the lesser charges of sexual battery and assault) but he confessed to having violent, consentual sex.
