I have been in that airport so many times. . . I saw a picture and it was a public area that looks familiar-the entire airport had a cohesive feeling, so it could have been any main thoroughfare of the airport(or maybe any airport), but knowing I have been there hits me hard. We made friends with our porter (helped me through the terminals when I was wheelchair bound) and he works there everyday. I know so many people who travel through there frequently. They hit Karachi last year and just the cargo area was scary enough, but this place was a little too up close and personal.

I hope they get everyone involved and responsible, but I don't know how they work over there. The airport was seemingly well run from my experience. I'm surprised this happened there-as stated, they have armed guards stationed regularly. That kind of made me feel more secure-even in Egypt before the revolution. Now, I don't know. I lived in a gated, guarded community in Qatar and they let me in the compound there a few times when I no longer lived there just because I was white and looked like I belonged. I didn't have a car with the sticker or any authorization at all.

Wait, I thought all their donations to the WTBTS supported the missionary work. I guess when missionaries can't fulfill their duty as children of elderly parents, then the rest of the congregation is supposed to chip in-with an encouraging note. . . ? I'm confused. What the hell do they want? Feed the parents and sent a snoopy note card to the missionary?

Taking care of your own is first duty in every religion I know of. Christianty teaches it, Islam teaches it. First charity is in the home and the most blessings are from caring for your own family properly. Duh. How much more blessed will those serving where the need is great be when they are living in a expat enclave in the Philipines or Mexico while their 90 year old parents are alone in a nursing home?

by dorian hargrove, june 24, 2016. a san diego superior court judge has ordered the church of jehovah's witnesses, also known as the watchtower bible and tract society of pennsylvania, to pay $4000 a day for every day that it fails to produce documents requested in a civil lawsuit brought by former parishioner, osbaldo padron, who claims a church elder sexually abused him when he was seven years old.. in a june 23 ruling, expected to be made final today, judge richard strauss admonished the church for willfully ignoring a court order to produce all documents associated with a 1997 body of elders letter that church leaders sent to parishes around the world in a quest to learn about sexual abuse of children by church leaders.. over the course of the past year, the watchtower society and its lawyers have fought hard to keep the letter confidential, claiming that turning over the documents would infringe on the privacy of those mentioned in the letter that were not associated with the case.. in march 2015, the church turned over a heavily redacted version of the letter.

I believe they use outside law firms.

They use outside consultants.(Remember ARC?)
They will use outside contractors. (Fancy new HQ buildings/sites)
They are outsourcing the printing of the publications now in some country(ies?)
There cannot be enough JW lawyers to keep up with all the lawsuits that the WT faces, especially nowadays.These are specialized and critically important. They can't have half assed screw ups. While I am sure that they have a few very competent experienced lawyers, with thousands of congregations, KH's, conferences all the time and 8 million minimally educated JWs, there can't be enough lawyers numerically to deal with it all.

The 1975 Generation---are they still around?

i was raised as a jw and 1975 expectations were pretty intense.

as i recall, most people did not leave after the failed expectations but many s l o w e d down.

now, i think most of the 1975 witnesses are gone or barely in.. is the older generation still around in the kingdom halls or are they much gone?.

I was 9 in 1975. I remember it well and I remember thinking that something huge was supposed to happen in 1975 (and then, maybe a little later, dates might be off). Well, I was a kid. I only heard what I heard at the meetings. My mom claims to this day that she didn't "believe" 1975 was it. I do know that she got my dad to go to meetings for a short while, but he flat out stopped very very soon. Anyway, all my expectations and then disappointment regarding 1975 were purely WT/KH/JW induced. I was a little kid. I don't claim to know all the excitement, but I do know that I had a total persecution complex. I was ready for it, baby! I read up on holocaust accounts and accounts of those escaping from brutal regimes. This was more when I was about ages 9-11 and it REALLLY had to be soon (remember the Eve theory?). I had a bunker attitude back then, honestly. I saw signs up about trespassers being prosecuted (persecuted in my doofy kid head) and wondered why they would do that just because you walked in someones yard. I went out in FS a lot and there were a LOT of JWs in my area, even then. I thought the signs were to keep JWs away. Anyway. My 9 year old brain was not doing independent math. I was buying what they were selling.

My mom is a JW and an aunt recently came back (about the 3rd or 4th time with drugs and alcohol featuring greatly in the in-between times) and is pioneering along with her very compliant husband (that she dragged into the mess.) All the cousins (except the one that murdered her cheating JW husband and his JW mistress in her bed) are out. My uncle is dead, all his kids and 3 ex wives (all JWs while married to him and divorcing him) are out. There were dozens of more distant cousins, but all are out now or dead(murdered!). Oh wait. The one that accidentally killed his baby brother on a hunting trip is still in. Forgot him. I have a lot of whacky and nutty relatives on my mom's side. That the freakiest seem to be JWs might just be because they are, but that leaves a lot of nuts in the rest of the bowl.

When I've lived in large cities, the alternative newspapers were often the only ones pursuing news like this. In Tacoma, WA, there was the Tacoma Dome Parking Scandal-It was first reported by the alternative newspaper. Sure, there are a lot of, lets say "quirky" or kind of nasty, even, ads on the back page and some in the middle, but they are made for local news stories that are often ignored, local arts and performances, unbiased (usually) reviews of plays or restaurants. All the new, hip bars are advertized, as well as festivals, fairs, etc.

Forget tally marks, just keep a running total: $4,000, $8000, $12,000, $16,000, $20,000. . . .That will make her curious.

If we were to ask: "What would be worth a daily $4,000 fine to you in order to not disclose something to a court? Is there anything in your life or our family life that a legitimate court order could demand you to disclose in the interest of justice that you would pay $4,000 a day to keep it private?"

This is the same organization that announces the decisions that they make about private matters when they mark, reprove or dis-fellowship members.

Just a really messed up situation

a quick summary of my situation: i have known ttatt since at least 2010. my wife and teenage son are still in.

i only mention that because it is relevant in this situation.

you can see some of my previous posts for additional details.

Make sure that your son knows that no matter what, he IS your son and you will always have his back. Keep as good of communication (in front of her or otherwise) as you can and do your best not to be acrimonious with mom in front of him. He needs to know how to contact you, no matter what mom is up to or what she ends up doing.

I guess you are in the marriage for him at this point. You do whatever you need to regarding mom, but always leave a open door to your son. Don't worry about the baptism so much other than to just state the facts when he can hear. If you have no legal rights and no ability to speak privately, then speak publicly and factually and without rancour.

My son's stepdad never had "legal" rights to him, but I never would have kept him from his stepdad, no matter what. That was his dad and he still is, they still have a good relationship, though we are divorced. I think it is the shittiest thing in the world to play with the hearts of children in a divorce situation.

Just let him know that your love him unconditionally.

Disassociation Announcement

did anyone experience a disassociation announcement during the public meeting instead during the service meeting?.

in my case it was announced the next day that we submitted our letter and this was on sunday instead of waiting for the service meeting on thursday..

Well, in the end, it's not changing anything for you. Ultimately, the timing will only hurt the doofus who announced it, though even that's unlikely

Millennial hopes?

it's been a long time since i was in, so please school me on this subject.

if, in wt teaching, jesus took over his "kingdom" in 1914, doesn't that mean that in wt world view, that the millennium is more than 100 years gone already?

if the last 102 years is a foretaste of his power, then eternity is looking more interesting than i anticipated..

I am asking so that if a JW ever shows up at my door (more likely I would approach one of the human magazine racks sitting on a bench) that I could ask them. I don't like to go into those conversations without knowing what they are actually teaching. I am a little confused on how that one goes these days.

Thanks to everyone. If nothing else, we can see that JWs are probably not going to have a firm response on this most critical issue or a firm anything. Well, they probably were schooled about their handshake at last weeks meeting. It might be firm.
