If you are willing, making home made bread, either traditional american style loaves or flatbread like naan or pita or roti are opioid much cheaper. Flat breads can be made on stove and a batch of dough kept in fridge for fresh loaves every meal if desired. Ye as st can be bought much cheaper in bulk pound sizes rather than the criminal prices for individual packets.
Also, buy dry beans and cook yourself. Cheaper than cans, can keep in freezer and delicious.September-december has a lot of great deals-if you can stretch your budget the next few months, you can stock up everday staples.
Use foodbank. Make friends with produce guys at local markets. They . Might discard the not quite good enough or excess veg your way.
Learn how to prepare food for freezing so if you get a great windfall that you can take advantage without eating so many carrots that you turn orange. For example.
Watch brothers Green on youtube. Lots of creative ways to eat cheap and healthy. Super funny, too.

Wow, a guy is drunk and verbally abusive and gets DFd.
Legally, I am mystified about this-what can he hope to accomplish?
Naturally, I am sick that the family was ripped apart so viciously by this organizational processes-and I speak of the daughters DFing. The consequences of Mr. Walls DFing are the stuff of JWD legend. Nothing new. But the impact that DFing his daughter, and the trickle down effect just highlights the tragedy of this WT doctrine. That this CHILD was experiencing as an adolescent the consequences of her adult father should give people pause. The aspect of his DFing appeal that mentioned the lack of spiritual guidance is also telling.
Honestly, not knowing even what the court is figuring that can possibly be done regarding natural justice, I think this is a bit of a pyrric victory. But not entirely. The publicity will hopefully put some attention on the practice of DFing people, particularly children, and the chain reaction it's impact has on entire families. It is hate filled and harmful to the family in every way. This is proof.

Is changing the "truth" / presenting "new light" really so bad?
by Zana inplaying devil's advocate here.... what's the difference between the gb changing bible interpretations compared to parliaments all over the world changing laws?
although the us constitution (=bible) remains untouched, congress passes i don't know how many new laws every year.
and of course people are expected to follow them.

The stillborn children issue is not new light. It was just backing off from the standard blowhard position that was stumbling huge amounts of distraught JWs. The GB realized that it was a teaching that was just them, blowing smoke out of their butts with no basis for it in scripture. The thing is, miscarriages and stillbirth happen to almost every family, and usually very close. Ones child or sibling. Almost everyone has this happen. Blood comes up more than transplants, but both those things changed because of politics or pressure, too. The kid in the early 70s who was told that getting a transfusion would result in him being abandoned. . .that kind of dogmatism made JWs look like monsters because it is monstrous. So they have modified the "understanding"
When people are devastated, having their hope cut off just because (probably) Rutherford pronounced it in his all knowing godlike way and there was no biblical reason, well it would be stupid to stubbornly persist when the whole reason they join that cult is for the HOPE they are promised to meet their loved ones. Rutherford didn't care. His own son is a footnote in his life. But a"we don't know" allows them to dare hope. This is something they stood to lose on by being dogmatic.
Anyone else find it interesting that all these "bible students" need permission to be allowed to believe what they understood and they needed to seek authorization from the GB to say it?
No thought control there!

JW child first pediatric patient to receive acute normovolemic hemodilution - 1970
by OrphanCrow inacute normovolemic hemodilution.
hemodilution simply refers to the process of diluting the blood with another substance.
there are various ways that this is done before, during and after the surgical process.

It's interesting that the doctors were reluctant to provide care that would orphan the child, but the parents just stood their ground. Honestly, I am Bout Terry j's age and I don't doubt that his parents said that, or that at that time that such a stance was not encouraged by the org. Not in print, but here's betting you that the parents were the hero's in some assembly or several.

They threatened to not take their child home if he was given blood? I fault the state agency that didn't rescue the child from such abuse. Totally monstrous parents.

We all "shun."
by stillin inan old friend of mine committed suicide this week.
he was a great guy; pleasant to be around, a hard worker, kind.
everybody at work liked him.. then something changed.

My mom's shunning behavior is not related to my lifestyle, but rather, to any though or word that exposes the ugliness of the wtbts to her. For example, sharing an article about the institutional response to child abuse in various religions and secular organizations, including hers. She threatened to cut me off unless I removed it from my Facebook. Because apparently if I did that, the world would never know! The dirty secrets would remain.
That is not the same as not hanging out with a friend who is doing things that are physically unpleasant to be around and who is frankly doing things that endangered himself and anyone unfortunate enough to be in his vicinity. I am so sorry your friend had the issues he did and that he disconnected himself from you, but you would have answered his call. JW leadership commend you for ignoring it.

how can navigate if our desire is for absolute truth...
by Ruby456 inor do we give in to social constructivism?
to relativity?
or is there a way to be real and then to say whats real that everyone agrees to?.
-

Always seek truth, knowing that perfect, absolute truth will escape your grasp. In the meantime, be grateful for the good in your life and generous with kindness, time or money if you have any.

Worshiping a piece of stone
by FedUpJW intoday one of the members of the local congregation who is somewhat limited intellectually was showing off a small bit of cut granite stone.
as he did so he made sure to let everyone know that it was given to him by the congregation service overseer who just completed his second or third round of bragging rights slave labor at warwick.
he mentioned that, "brother _______ gave this to me as a piece of reality from warwick.

Nathan, many faiths perform pilgrimages. Jews go to wailing wall in Jerusalem. Catholics go all over the world. Hindus go to the Ganges (or some river). Mormons go to the salt lake temple. Jews-observant traditionally pray in the direction of Jerusalem. Christian churches used to have a particular orientation to the east-related to resurrection. With exception of the Ganges-im unfamiliar with details of Hinduism, I dont believe the place or direction is the object of worship. Muslims pray to god. They do not believe god is living in a rock or building in mecca. Having been to makkah, mecca. . .I can assure you muslims are not under the impression that god is that place. Its just a ritual with symbolism, but faith is in a god without a body of flesh or stone. A Muslims righteousness is not judged by the direction in which they pray.

Lessons learned from the outcome of bloodless emergency laparotomies on Jehovah’s Witness women
by OrphanCrow inthe wt has promoted bloodless surgery as a viable (and better) alternative to surgery with blood transfusions.. i have found a medical study that has been used to back up these "evidence based" claims.
the title of the article is lessons learned from the outcome of bloodless emergency.
these mostly indigent patients died of peritonitis becauseof delays in payment for antibiotics.

A recent course of antibiotics at Wal-Mart cost $30 &change. Checking later at Costco pharmacy, it was about $12 for non members at Costco and $6 for members.
I think many of us might sleep better at night if we disseminated this information. I had no idea. Standard Z-Pac. A fraction of the price at Costco.
