My heart goes out to you. Broken bones are the pits. Take care of yourself, and find an outlet that doesn't get you navel gazing or trying to fix the world. That is crazy making (says the crazy lady:) ) If you can do something productive with your time off your feet, I really encourage you to do it, whether its a memoir or finding work you can do from your computer. Idleness is really a mental danger.

Business Slow at JW Literature Trolley
by Athanasius inyesterday i stopped at a local shopping center to pick up a few things.
i arrived at 9:45 am and two jw ladies had already set up their literature trolley and had opened for business.
but i didn't see anyone stopping by and taking advantage of their free literature.

There is a cart by a local mcdonalds that is attached to a gas station on a super busy road near a bus stop. In SE Houston. No one gets out of their cars there, and it doesn't even seem a safe place for buses to stop, but they do. Its not the kind of place to slow down and there is no where to park near where they are as the drive through inhibits car traffic AND foot traffic other than the bus riders. There are usually two carts and no one talks to them. Why would they?
Then there is the two ladies sitting on a bench in NOLA by the big river excursion boats. Not a cart in sight, not a book, not a bookbag. (is that a rule?) but they had the WT ;propped up on their laps while they gossiped.
I did have two visits in two weeks from the locals. Must be a big shot visiting or something. They had nothing to say, it was sad. Neither did I, which might be sadder.

Do You Trust The News Media?
by minimus inobviously, trump doesn't.
but do you?
do you think that they are generally fair, unbiased and honest?.

Generally, I recognize that humans with human interests, biases and preconceived ideas and agendas are the ones who report the news. There is no "truth", it's a narrative, part of a story they want to tell.
I lived in Egypt post revolution. I saw news reported locally and on the networks about places I visited, walked through and some very up close and personal observations. I lived In the middle East at the height of the Arab spring. The most important thing I learned is that even facts have nuance. These nuances can be the focus, they can ignored or they can play a role that gives a more accurate picture, but here is the thing: News stories are just that, stories. So take them with a grain of salt. Storytellers are human beings.

I need help understanding my moms decision!
by Holzy86 infirst of all i'm not a jahovas witness, my mother is.
i've asked my mother for some help over the weekend for my sons birthday, i understand jw do not celebrate birthdays.. every year i take my son out for a treat day, this year he has asked me if he can bring friends too so i said i only have enough room for one but he has asked for two, so i said i will ask nanny if she will help out to take my other son in her car with my netphew and older sister, but as soon as i mentioned it was for a birthday treat she refused to help me.. i just need to know if jahovahs witnesses will refuse to help family out when asking for help, i feel i've asked and made sure all the people she will be giving a lift to that it is not there birthday.
his birthday has just happened to have fallen on the weekend when we would have been taking him because he is at school monday to friday.

JWs are nothing if not legalistic. Just consider how much you are willing to facilitate her cult activities (since that would seem to be condoning them ) going forward. Not to be retaliatory, but so you can save up for a vehicle that will transport a few extra kids for birthday treats as you have no family to participate in that.

Feelings of Betrayal After Catholic Church Is Leased to Coptic Parish
by Hecce ininteresting article showing the different attitudes between the watchtower and the catholic church.
when a kingdom hall or assembly hall is sold, we will have witnesses that are unhappy; none of them will dare to express that in public or do anything about it.
they know that one way or another that will result in retributions.. since their church was shut down in a round of parish mergers in 2015, the group has been fighting to reopen it through prayer vigils and a continued legal appeal before the vatican.

I like the fact that Catholics can fuss out loud without repercussions..
One thing that the RC and orthodox churches are doing is trying to join together again. It's sneaking in in various ways. Coptic is a variant of, and some would say the original, orthodox church, so this might well be part of their strategy.
I've seen the church, its lovely-many of the churches in NYC are stunning. There was a tiny, simple one near my old job in chelsea that had a lot of non catholics going there for meditation and prayer-30 years ago. And lunch:)
The RC church is going the way of the WT, contracting, it seems.

We are all happy for you, we've all felt your struggle and were rooting for you. It honestly feels like longer than a year-you are very established as a part of this group. I hope your life continues to open up, and that you find all the success and happiness that we all seek. Enjoy your little girl and teach her about all the everyday miracles that don't require perfection or paradise. Best ex JW lesson I've learned is that you don't have to wait to experience real happiness. It isn't in the unimaginable, ever distant future, its right here in your hand.

After the two I saw sitting by the sternwheeler in New Orleans with nothing but a WT propped up in their laps as they chatted and drank their coffee, I don't even pretend to myself that they want the spread the truth. They are just counting time. They know it doesn't matter, so they don't care. If they really believed they were doing a life saving work, none of that crap would begin to satisfy them.

I need some serious help
by bulldogg1877 ini grew up a jw kid until the age of twelve.

i have enjoyed alot of my life experiences, but i now feel like i am lost.

Eh, being a JW isn't going to fix your problems, Bulldogg. It will just set off a bunch of new ones. Not knowing the nature of your relationship to your family or if they are JW or not or what the situation is really doesn't change my answer. If you have done things to screw up your life, make some positive steps to correcting it. If it involves repentance to God, you don't need the JWs. If it is a legal issue, religion isn't going to help. A lawyer might. If your relationships are messed up, do what you can-but don't become a JW. It is just the start of a bunch of new problems.
That being said, I have screwed up in a lot of ways and religion doesn't fix it. Goodness knows that the WT tells you that it will, that THEIRS will, but, it is a lie. You are in just the position now that JWs want you in. cowering, scared of the future and desperate. Really, this is not about a relationship with God, but finding a group of people who will give you some love bombing right now here on earth in this OLD system of things.. Any church would do, but the JWs are the one you know.
Spiritually, you need to right any wrongs you have done. Then you need to forgive yourself. If you believe in God, repent to God. God doesn't need a half baked organization that doesn't get ONE SINGLE PREDICTION or PROPHECY right. They can't decide what blood is. They change their rules about what makes you acceptable or not acceptable on a whim. You have enough problems in your life, you don't need that flaky bunch to give you guidance.
