Canada lets homosexuals marry, right? Maybe he will just move to Canada with all the Bush haters, or war/Bush haters who were going when Bush got re-elected. Wait, did anyone actually MOVE to Canada? Plus, might be less competition for Angelina. . .oops, she likes girls too, doesn't she? Never mind. (BTW, baby wise-I think Shiloh is cuter than Suri, but I am also so over Cruise and not exactly Pitt. Or Jolie:) Who is one of the only women I understand men doing stupid things for-looks wise. What would it be to go through life LOOKING like that-without makeup even? I am just jealous. I'll shut up now.

Has a brother ever screwed you?
by noontide ini was always very cautious with worldly people but of course i trusted everyone in the congregation 100%.
i trusted someone from the congregation with a business deal and got raked over the coals.
its a long and frustrating story, suffice it to say it cost me a lot of anguish, time and money.

Hmmm. My dad who was a non witness was hired during some hard times(construction, '70's) to work for a MS in our congregation-as a favor to my mom? Maybe. Anyway, my dad worked for a few weeks, provided the materials and WAS NEVER PAID. My mom never complained to the elders or told anyone else. My dad (of course) was pissed off, and that is the only reason I knew about it. It particularly ranked as my mom had to go to the food bank (totally humiliating to my father who had a wonderful work ethic) and as we were eating RABBIT (ugh) the Brown family was on a 2 week trip to Hawaii. Dad would never work for a JW again-no matter how bad the economy was.
Long time (3 generation family of)friends of the family had my uncle-a roofer- do work on their roof and it was a very bad job(he used to be very good, but has gotten shifty and sloppy). It cost her thousands to hire another to replace the whole mess. He refused to make it right. And he had been friends with her family since birth-they grew up on the same street His mom and her grandma were neighbors and we have camped, gone to weddings and everything together. Their family comes to our family reunions! His kids grew up with her. That was more taking advantage of family, but it was a JW doing it. OTOH, my mom would NEVER scam another person, JW or not. I wish she would have put her husband and really, her family, above her embarrassment in the congregation and discussed it with the elders. She never even gave Brown the cold shoulder, treated him as nice as pie. I am sure he did not have the grace to even feel abashed by kind treatment.

Organization
by JWdaughter inhow many religions have a central, organized body?
i can think of 3 offhand-the wt society/jehovah's witnesses, the roman catholic church and latter-day saints/mormons.
any others that have a main hq that sends out doctrine?
-
JWdaughter
Yadayadayada says: There is nothing wrong with having some kind of organising body. The problem is the extent to which the body has power and authority over the members.
That is what I was meaning. The pope/GB/Prophet syndrome. What other religions offer such a few or one people/person that much control over the entire religous group of people?

PO said automation and declining contributions reason for Bethel layoffs
by truthseeker inlast week at the meeting, the po, who has very close connections to bethel, said that he never thought he would see the day that bethelites were being sent home.
he said that the biggest two reasons he thought bethel were cutting back, was automation and a massive decline in contributions.
looks like you're right metatron about the contribution aspect being their achilles heel.

After giving much caution to the idea of donating to charities and religions asking for contributions, the WT org has this to say:
*** g93 6/8 27 "Charitable Contributions-A Christian Obligation? ***
Many prefer to help by personal, direct gifts to needy individuals and families. Thus, the givers are sure of the practical, immediate use to which their contributions can be put. This also provides opportunity to upbuild and express kindness in words as well as deeds. Even if you do not have much to give materially, you can still have the joy of giving. Next time you hear of a genuine need for such help, give what you can in the spirit of 2 Corinthians 8:12: “If the readiness is there first, it is especially acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what a person does not have.”
Have in mind, too, that sometimes what may do the most good is something other than money. Jesus told his followers to “go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of the heavens has drawn near.’ . . . You received free, give free.” (Matthew 10:7, 8) Similarly today, Christians realize that the time, energy, and money spent in supporting Kingdom witnessing—which improves lives and gives hope—is charitable giving of the best kind."
Of course we know that the time energy and money spent in supporting Kingdom witnessing is charitable giving of the best kind!!!!

Jehovah's Witnesses are not False Prophets- Proof
by Gilberto ina couple of years ago after talking about 1975 and the generation change with 2 elders i asked them what we would call another religion if they were wrong with dates and had to change prophecies.
no answer was forthcoming so i offered "false prophets?".
one elder agreed we probably would, the other was deadly silent.. anyway i thought i would look up false prophets and found this... *** g93 3/22 pp.

A few simple questions I want to ask an elder (if I ever run into one again). Do I have to believe every single thing that is written by the society? Can I disagree with parts of their message? Can I remain in good standing if I speak about my opinions? If not, why not? Shelly says:
I spoke to an older JW woman a few weeks ago and she said she doesn't agree with everything, but she did agree that to say so would not be acceptable. She said "if you don't agree about birthdays, but say that isn't the big issue, why not just go along with it?" My thought: Basically, if I don't have the freedom to do something that we both agree 'isn't that important, what does that say about the control of the organization? That IS just a small issue in fact, but in implication-it is HUGE. And I think I got that message to her, in any case.

What's Your Opinion Of Cops Making Roadblocks Just 2 See If Someone's Drunk
by minimus inare you for it or against it?
-
JWdaughter
I guess some thing that they have the right to drive drunk until they hit someone, and others are concerned about those who would cross the street on foot without a light or crosswalk giving them permission. Both are problems, but the ones in the cars are the ones with the deadly weapons. However, I don't take jaywalking lightly either. Teaching children about road safety is the first step to teaching them about traffic safety and understanding both is a key to a long life. (You know-lets all make it to the big A! :) )
My beef right now, in particular, is the local police officers who repeatedly give teenage speeders 'warnings'. My son is 18 and has had some minor traffic stops and one ticketed accident. Another that involved private property only(thank God) and he repaired the fence. Now that he is 18(nearly 19) and moving out, he has told me of how MANY times he has sped and been CAUGHT by the police and let OFF because they thought he was 'a nice kid'. This 'nice kid' has lost 2 friends and several aquaintances to traffic accidents involving high speed and/or racing(very big around here). The cops just treat it as a 'boys will be boys' thing. I am stunned! Are they STUPID???? To many of them are literally scraping kids off the sidewalks and streets and they are giving kids a break! I want to DO SOMETHING to stop this and don't know if I should start with my local police force or go to my legislators. Any ideas? Seems if the kids are breaking the law, that parents should be notified-since we are responsible for what they do as minors and can remove driving priveleges. We never were notified! I found a couple of traffic citations, but my son didn't offer the information up, and I found them after he was 18 and in the process of moving out. If the police don't treat this as seriously as drunk driving (and they treat it pretty seriously around here) then they become accomplices to my way of thinking. Aaaargh. I am one irritated mama bear right now. Good thing no one is in the house or I'd bite-and not in a nice way!

Richie, you are like me-when you get older I bet your freckles will just all grow together and you will have orange shoulders:) I never learned latin. Saw the "nemo" and wondered if you have been watching too many kids shows. I like the sentiment as it was explained.
The only question I have, is, while being glad to be OUT(and I know how glad you truly are to be free) doesn't marking yourself permanently with it kind of give it all a power over you? Or do you consider it your way of denying any power over you.
