  I had more than one Egyptian student tell me that there would be a revolution, within a few weeks of revolution. Ordinary Egyptians were beyond what they could bear. Unfortunately, they have Mubarak 2. I was there before the revolution and the summer after.

  I've been in Makkah. Walked to the cave, prayed near the Kabbah. No drama, but many here have never been there. Or Pakistan. I taught Emirs daughter. I taught prime minister's daughter. Been in his home.

  I remember where I was when Michael Jackson and Elvis died. I remember the planes hitting the towers. I paid 4.95 an hour for dial up internet service.

  Mt. Helens.

  Family trapped all over the world when the volcano in Iceland went off. Husband stuck in Hungary, son in Arabia.

  I participated in Hands across America.

  New year's in Times square.

  Saw King Tut exhibit in 1970-something, then saw him at home in egypt, decades later.

  Watched Challenger blow up. First and last event of that type I watched live on tv on purpose. I avoid live tv but still saw the second tower hit and fall. I couldn't not watch😢

  ever since my sister gave me an " awakening," i have been somewhat obsessed with the failings of the religion i was born into.

  i am especially outraged at the article i read about how the elders are supposed to deal with accusations of sexual abuse (jwfacts.com/watchtower/paedophelia.php).

  i myself suffered sexual and emotional abuse from a family "friend"/ministerial servant in a neighboring congregation.

  You may not have a case, but others may because of you. If you can find others who told elders before he abused you, you might have a case. As we know now, likely not. If he has moved, you may want to inform his current local justice authorities and elder body of his history. As a matter of conscience and as a concerned citizen. They can't play clueless ever again

  a year to a year and a half ago, i would have taken this article at face value and believed it.. now, i realize this article comes from a dubious source.

  world news daily has a die-hard right-wing bias.

  so, in an effort to get real information, i'm asking my european exjw's, is this article all true?

  I think that is an interesting question. Lots of Muslims have successfully integrated in the US, and as in most immigrant groups, there are some older language holdouts, but most are successfully starting busing, crazy to get their kids high degrees and work their butts off to do it. I know businessmen, doctors, engineers, entrepreneurs, teachers, etc.

  In Muslim countries, English is defector business language, which is convenient for most westerners, but when westerners are expected to follow cultural norms (to a lesser degree) and are punished according to their laws, the world has a collective panic attack. Yet we all get in a huff if ladies don't cast off all modesty upon arrival. I worked and lived in several predominantly Muslim nations. Not even in Saudi is a western or non Muslim woman expected to cover her hair, although she is supposed to cover her limbs. In Pakistan, many don't cover. In Egypt, there is a total range of degrees of covering. In Qatar, also. No one told me to go back home. Ever. My language issues were accommodated as well as possible(usually impressively) I did go to Makkah. I did not wear an abaya or black. I was modest, but I'm not Arabic, and my cultural version of modesty didn't look like theirs, except for one day after I bought an abaya. It still was not black, but fyi, lots of abayas are not.

  Many Muslim women in the US are modest but if they did not cover their hair, you'd think nothing of it. Some still wear abayas. Many are indistinguishable. We are much better integrated than many will acknowledge. That's a shame.

  There is a learning curve for any immigrant or visiting group. Hello, Americans going to Europe have some real adjustments to make. Especially older ones who are more set in their ways. My mom is a real "ugly American" even out of her neighborhood. I shudder to think what she did in Italy, Greece and Turkey.

  Your doctor, lawyer or insurance agent or IT manager at work may be able to tell you about integrating and the challenges they faced.

  Simple, basic manners would be a good start

  the witnesses are really challenged socially.

  in their own little world, they seem oblivious to the niceties of saying thank you or that they are sorry for some minor wrong.

  these things help life go more smoothly in the real world, like a social lubricant.. i'm simply appalled at the fact that an elder's son, who was married more than a year ago, has never sent out thank you notes for all of the gifts that the congregation gave him for his wedding.

  In any kind of sales if you are leaving promotional material you should tip extra! JWs started out as unapologetic sales people. They need to use common sense. My mom has never left tracts or magazine's, thank god. I know many who do, though.

  It was good of you to try and help her. Some are not ready to receive it. You still helped because she knows there is a person in the world who cares about her. That will always stick. Take care of yourself!

  at the latest co visit something very strange happened.

  during the meeting with the elders and servants he passed out a copy of a hypothetical publisher card and asked us what we could learn from it.

  upon receiving it i saw that the average hours were pretty good, it had return visits and quite a few bible studies.

  Back in the olden days-early 1980s, when I left, there were a lot of ex JW groups. Yahoo meets had nothing on yellow pages, little nickel want ads and newspaper blurbs about JWs. I'm not surprised that a more mature generation has recognized and joined together. I would suggest that there might well be a little more dissent than acknowledged, but these folks are meeting with carefully gathered, like-minded friends. They don't want to undermine their whole life, but they can't buy into all the nonsense. Good for them. I'm almost 50. In 10 years, I hope I see a very different org. Those 80 year olds have to see whatsoever is going on now, knowing they will not see a significant downfall of corrupt leadership. :(

  so i was reading over new member hollywood 20s experience and thinking of using it when i'm going to talk with my son that their trying to get baptized.

  so that with all the other things through my mind i decided to say some things to him about what's going on with my daughter.

  do you notice what word is missing?

  how would any of us be viewed in the congregations if we were to speak or write this way?
