  I'm close to Rosenburg, TX. I could take one for the team, I guess. I haven't in decades, but no kids nearby, no family that knows. It would be interesting to go as a complete stranger.

  Prince died from overdose?

  i just saw where the emergency landing that prince made several days ago in moline was due to an opiate overdose.

  this came from tmz and sounded pretty credible.

  if true, just curious if he would still be given a jw funeral, if that is what he wanted..

  Don't give the guy too hard a time if it was an opiate OD. Pain, real pain, takes medicine to control, and sometimes the medicine starts to TAKE control. He was always kind of a strange cat, but he seemed to have control of himself and there is an intent issue, I guess that I give him a break about. Prescription drugs can be mis-used accidentally or can harm without going against the prescription. Thats why anyone using any kind of drugs should be monitored carefully by doctors.

  That being said, we don't know the cause of his death, and I hope he didn't suffer. I'm not a particular fan, but as another poster said, he is definitely on the soundtrack of my life in a few places because his music sticks to you-even if you don't listen to that kind of music much.

  Reminder to all of us to not be cavalier about taking prescriptions or OTC meds, whether they are painkillers or blood thinners or even tylenol. They are drugs and carry a risk of some sort.

  Under WT rules, can JW women file for a divorce? Or can only men file?

  the reason i ask is because while watching the "dateline" episode about ralph candelario, the claim was made that only jw men could file for divorce, not women.

  .

  i had never thought about this before.. also, how does this apply in cases where a husband is "apostate" while the wife is faithful to wt?

  To clarify, the divorce rules are technically identical for both spouses(understanding that rules are not always adhered to)

  i am posting it because it may help honest jws consider how far their beliefs are at odds with new testament christians.

  if they have "the truth" then their attitude to jesus ought to reflect that of the apostles.

  If nothing else this thread highlights the differences in the view of the early church internally. Scripture showing the contrasting views of Jesus before and after the crucifixion are q when stripped down. The Christology clearly developed as the church aged.

  of exchanging gifts among the adults for xmas why not pool our money and give it to some.

  JWs should deflect as they are taught and tell the elders that they have a more comprehensive medical directive lodged with HC provider, lawyer and family. And they should make sure that they do. That one is kind of a joke on top of being a sinister control tactic, it is simplistic in a way that is incongruent with modern care. The hospital version of just refusing blood is many pages long in the U.S.. it is complicated and comes with a detailed account of what is being accepted and rejected. Advance directives allow for time and thought. The wtbts version is clearly another control technique.

  Very Weird Experience During Recent Special Talk After Memorial

  hesitantly i attended this talk with my family and sat through it without batting an eye.. mentally i take myself out during the entire meeting some would describe this as daydreaming or zoning out.

  whatever the case may be, for some reason this particular speaker, whom i know of but not personally, got my attention the way he would say certain phrases.

  he cited some texts that directly advised the audience that faith in christ was the only way to salvation.

  I had one last talk by an anointed brother, memorial whose entire talk sounded as if he were denying JW teaching. At the Tim's, no JWs seemed even phased by it. Even the partaking bit . . .I think another brother stepped up to remind visitors not to partake. Weird dystopian meeting.

  i will reserve comment but mr. pole has regularly represented the canadian branch of the jws'.

  he is their go to lawyer when needing non-direct society representation.. disappointed at how slimy he has become.

  this morning, the new york times published an article entitled “radicalization of a belgium student turned bomb maker was invisible.” this piece, written by alissa j. rubin, details the conversion of 24-year-old najim laachraoui, one of the suicide bombers responsible for the attack of the belgium airport on march 22. rubin cites associates and family members of laachraoui, who all say that while he leaned toward a strict version of islam, and they did notice changes in his ideology and behavior, they never suspected he would be capable of such violent acts.

  I agree. I have felt this for years, but could not articulate it. The problem with ISIS is that it ends in violent deaths, almost inevitably.

  Calling every Muslim a terrorist does feed ISIS with new recruits, because human nature plays into cult tactics well.

  I am sure that the property will be much more useful for a hotel or retail chain to own in the tropical paradise vacation spot of Jamaica than it would be for the local Jehovah's Witnesses. The. Can use the local church or school to meet in!
