Trolley cart "witnessing" is getting ridiculous

i really fail to see how much actual "witnessing" is occurring with the trolley carts.publishers, usually pioneers, just stand or sit there not engaging anyone and count their time.. the only thing i notice that it's accomplishing is brand exposure for jw.0rg so the public is exposed to the logo and literature/poster card headlines.. take for example this "evening" witnessing by a pioneer elder while on summer holiday/vacation.. .

is this not a wth kinda moment when you consider the years of slaving, knocking on doors, business territory and bible studies we had to keep performing so we weren't branded a "weak" publisher?.

ok, 4 questions sprang to mind in light of the recent elders letter.. if you get to the kingdom hall and its on fire, brother a says he saw brother b set it ablaze purposely, .

who do you call first and why?

if you get to the kingdom hall and the sound system has been stolen, sister a says she saw brother b loading it onto his van,.

If you get to the kingdom hall and the sound system has been stolen, sister A says she saw brother B loading it onto his van, Who do you call first and why?

Bro B to mention that the others saw him removing it and ask when he plans on bringing it back. Maybe bro. B is getting it repaired. No reason to go all judicial on the guy!

If you get to the kingdom hall and there's a dead body on the platform with blood everywhere and brother A says he saw sister B commit the murder,Who do you call first and why?

911, dude, there's a dead body on the platform. After the cops are done THEN you call the brother in charge of crime scene cleanups (you know there is a brother who does that professionally, right?) to tell him of the opportunity he has to provide his services as "an offering to Jehovah". First things first.

So, if you get to the kingdom hall and a little one is claiming that brother or sister so and so has sexually abused them, Who do you call first and why?

Bethel, of course! They need to know for their records.

Now, now, you know that the elders can't answer THAT one. . .its not in any elder's manual!

Updates and fixes

i thought i'd spend some time cleaning up the forum code and wanted to let you know about some of the recent changes and fixes:.

the avatars and in-post images used to use a separate imaging service which was convenient but didn't provide much control over caching which meant that each day you visited the site you were probably re-downloading those images again.

as they are immutable they can be cached for a long time which saves bandwidth and speeds things up.

Simon, most of what you wrote in the OP was Greek to me (actually, probably understand Greek, Arabic and Urdu a little better!), but I did notice that I can no longer "Like" a post more than once. A little red circle with a line through it now shows up-which is good. I do appreciate all your work and efforts on this site.

so my mam visited today.

she recently went to convention in north east england, newcastle i think they still have them at.

before she left she said (this is her exact words btw) "you have put me in a difficult position and i can't come to see you anymore".. she told me that as i live with my partner and we are unmarried that she can't visit anymore.

Jehovah loves "even rounded numbers" or could this be a way to disprove the inspiration of the Bible?

while i am not able to recall them all at this time, i remember so many instances that when a number was quoted in the bible, especially large numbers, they were all "rounded up" to the nearest hundred or thousand.

for instance the angel killed 185,000 syrians, not 184,879. sampson killed a thousand men with the jawbone of an ass, not 961. and on and on on the even rounded numbers.

i would guess that it could be agues that these numbers were correct but is that realistic?

JWs do Volunteer To Help Worldly Organizations Distribute Food to the Needy

some months back i posted a topic asking if jws were now encouraged to volunteer their time for charitable organizations, as one of the volunteers who i work with was promoting jw.org to one of the spanish speaking workers.

well the other day as he and i were folding and stacking tables after distributing food to the needy, i mentioned that after i retired i got bored and decided to do volunteer work.

If he was working in a food bank, it might well be that he is using it and feels obligated to take part in the labor. Speaking as a former food bank recipient. 3-4 times at the food bank and I ended up volunteering for years in a couple of different towns.

I think that the WT has been making noises to the effect that volunteer work in the community is not inherently a waste of time. In a recent article or talk mentioned here, it had a much different tone than the ones of my youth. It might be that more and more JWs are now the recipients of worldly charities, or that JWs have been PUBLICLY shown to be the recipients (remember that little kid a few months ago with one of the "go fund me" accounts that was made public in the media, and her religion was highlighted? The WT needs JWs to be just as publicly giving as getting, and I am NOT talking about their PR release kind of "charity" when there is a tornado or flood.

How Many Disfellowshipped Are There In The US?

i've read in the watchtower, as well as observed personally, that 1% of the congregation gets disfellowshipped every year.

i'm not good at the math but i figure that it's 40% since 1975 (yes i know, they're growing).

i know that quite a few return but still, there must be a large percentage of disfellowshipped jws who will never return.

My aunt was reinstated so many times that I kinda lost track after 3. She is nearly 60 and has been in and out like a jack in the box. Probably had something to do with coming of age in the 70's, being raised by halfhearted "studies" and my mom who was kind of a slacker in her younger years, for all that she believed the schlock.

THe last time reinstating didn't take her too long and she soon became an exceedingly annoying pioneer(she is kind hearted, but really dippy about "the truth" while she puts on this know it all stepford wife voice that make you want to shock some sense into her. She brought in her (3d or 4th) husband and he has just been appointed an elder after maybe 5 years "in the truth". She is closer in age to me than she is to my mom but man, they were bamboozled thoroughly, Must be our overlapping generations.
