A filter will not protect children, as I've said before those who want to by-pass it will.
Wrong! The Aussie plan would be filtered from the source, the Internet provider. Please try to follow. By-passing content that can't even reach your computer would be impossible. Nothing to do with a kid figuring out their Dad's computer (unless of course he opted out). P.S. I still think I'm in the Twilight Zone arguing with people who think Internet smut should be accessible to every household. Weird! I fear for today's youth.

That's a great idea but then some would just argue that it is still a Government "mandated" law forcing the poor porn companies to give up there rights to a .com suffice.

Kinda turning into a dumb argument.
Buying family friendly Internet with an option to turn off the providers' blocking is no different than the cable company asking you to call them to hook up the adult channels.
Not censorship at all. Just a reversal of the choice the customer has to what service they want: Family oriented or Adult oriented. What the hell is the big deal?
P.S. Dave, we have virus/firewall and I'm pretty sure my 10 year old daughter was not curious about sex with horses, sorry. Our computer guru said he's seen it happen before and that kid's websites are often targeted by the malware.

It is the parent's job
I'm a conservative and don't want the Government involved in our lives like crazy.
But you have to admit that there is an increasing number of totally negligent parents out there.
I think the whole point we're missing is that if porn is so important to you THEN simply call your service provider. No bid deal.
As a parent who's 10 year old got a virus that uploaded bestiality pics on her school laptop: This is great for families! I hope Canada follows.

As a parent, I can't help be confused by objections to this measure.
It's not censorship when they give you the option to opt out and surf porn to your heart's content.
Funny how the people who don't want the Government involved in the Internet are probably the same people who want more social programs... run by the Government.
