Does it make you sick too??
by mama1119 ini was watching some youtube stuff yestersday and came across all the 2006 convention videos, and just watching them and hearing the songs and the dramas and seeing all the people dresses like they have for the last 20 years made me feel sick to my stomach, and all panicky....does this happen to anyone else?
when you see jw doing what you used to do, does it give you a little pts??
(post traumatic syndrome).

It doesn't make me sick really. But the conventions were about as boring to me as watching... ... ... as watching... ... ... hell, it was just about the most boring thing ever to me. I mean, I can remember being pretty intensely focused at a number of the DCs and assemblies in my later teenage years, but I was mostly just waiting for the break so that me and the guys could go scope out hotties.
So, I don't get any PTS from it, but I'm as likely to watch any of those vids as I am to watch paint dry.

JW's and Girlscout cookies
by oppgirl63 inmy jw roommate and i were watching boston legal the other night and one case was about someone being fired for their religious beliefs.
when one of the lawyers was talking to the jury, he mentioned many religions and the odd, quirky things about them.
he did mention that if you were a jehovah's witness you couldn't buy girl scout cookies.

This is one of those odd things. Our congregation knew we weren't supposed to buy Girl Scout cookies any more than we weren't supposed to join the YMCA. But people still did sometimes on the sly. I think it was emphasized more though that they shouldn't jointhe Girl Scouts.

Buddhism, Taoism, Meditation, and any other Non-Christian Journeys...
by exjdub inthere have been a lot of christian threads lately, so i thought that i would open a topic for other journeys.
because there is no way i will ever be a christian again because the curtain has been opened and i can see behind it, however i have an open mind and have started some meditation practices.
i have been thinking about visiting a buddhist temple out of curiosity.

Interesting Satanus... Perhaps a good thing I study the "corrupted" teachings of the Kabbalah (Quabalah) like a typical mashugana, huh?

Anyone had a breast reduction?
by bluesapphire ini'm a short 5'2" latina.
i have this tiny frame.
i finally shed the 20 lbs.

One of my very best friends had breast reduction surgery not too long ago. When she was rather svelt, her large breasts were actually rather... wow! But as she gained weight, she started to have back problems, etc.
My first reaction when she said she was going to have it done was "Nooooooooooo!!!..." But she says it was very much worth it.
My opinion is this: Women with small frames look great with larger breasts. But then again, I think they look great with smallish ones as well. You decide what's best for you, but I say keep them the way they are if you can.

Ad Hominem is what people with no valid argument use, attacking the arguer instead of the argument.

Hmmmm... I'll have to try it with butter and salt next time. I actually quite like it plain!

I also wanted to address this a bit:
Once again a few mention WT articles from 1914 etc. WHAT????????
Were any of us even born then????? Digging up the past. Give us a break please.
Digging up the past? So, only the positive things about the past are meaningful, not the negative? Doesn't the WBTS rely almost entirely upon past events to give credence to its doctrines? I mean, what is the Bible supposed to be from the JW view, if not a record of past events? If the Witnesses are Jehovah's organization on earth, shouldn't all Witnesses study its history just as intently as they study the history of the early Christian Church and learn from it?
So, study the Bible, the history of Jehovah's people, but not the history of the Witness Organizations, also supposedly Jehovah's people? Why not? Really... why not?

(light gets brighter people)
LOL! I guess Truth gets Truthier over time, huh?
I haven't read all the responses, but here is the problem as I see it:
The Society's publications present and imply their teachings as unalterable Truth, at the time. I mean, you can be disfellowshipped for many of these things. And I don't just mean the behavioral restrictions, I mean that you may be disfellowshipped for thinking something different from what the Society teaches at any moment in time, for having too many questions, even though that "Truth" may change later due to "light getting brighter".
Here is the problem... There is no such thing as an "absolute Truth". In order to be able to change their doctrine, for example to be able to change the definition of generation at their whim due to Armageddon scheduling problems, they have to have a doctrine such as the "new light" doctrine. It's very convenient for them.
Here is what the "new light" doctrine says in a nutshell, in reference to Truth:
Everything we say right now is Truth provided by Holy Spirit through the Faithful and Discreet Slave. You are commanded to run your life by, and if necessary, sacrifice your life for, this Truth. If you do not follow the laws set forth by the Governing Body and accept the Truth we provide, as your own, you may be disfellowshipped.
However, this Truth may be altered by us at any given time, "new light". And even should we alter it in one's favor after they've already been disfellowshipped for the very same item of Truth we've changed, being cut off from family and friends, we should never be held responsible, and we will never apologize for anything.
Regarding the subject of your thread, my reason for being here is simple... to be in contact with people who believed the same things I did growing up, were treated just as horribly by the religion we loved and sacrificed for, and are hoping to rebuild their lives. I hope I can help someone to understand they're not alone when no one they know will talk to them anymore, when they feel abused by the Elders and by the religion they too loved and sacrified for, only to be cast aside oh too easily.
