If I write a book saying that I'm the best lover the world has ever known, I can't use the book itself as proof that I am, in fact, the best lover the world has ever known.

Please refute: There is ONE true God, one creator, one savior
by M.J. ini am curious, what explanations are there for the scriptures that affirm the existance of only one true deity, in light of christ's affirmed deity (jn 1:1, is 9:6)?
other than the conclusion that the deity spoken of could be inclusive of christ?
(perhaps in the sense of john 10:30--"i and the father are one").

Superstitious JW Nonsense
by 95stormfront inone of my jw relatives was relating to me another one of their superstitious nonsense stories designed to demonize every damn thing that doesn't fall into an approved wt list.
she was telling me about a her friend, who upon cleaning a relatives house, found a voodoo doll with a prayer to demons written on paper that it took an hour to burn.
she also related to me how in the hour it took to burn the demon paper prayer, everyone around them getting sick and falling into convulsions.. i guess she was a little perturbed that i was .

GBL, I heard the smurf story differently.
A girl had her parents buy her a smurf doll. The first night she had it, she slept with it. When she awoke, her parents were horrifed that the girl had scratch marks, much like a cat's, all over her exposed skin. And there was blood on the smurf's little fingers.

Why do/don't you believe in God
by LouBelle innow for all the scientists out there this is not a question of proof or anything along those lines.
for my part i choose to believe in a god because i honestly believe there is one (though i did start doubting for a little while) i've always felt that there was more to our existance on earth - and that doesn't stem from me wanting to live forever or as a spirit, as i don't even know if that will happen.
i also believe in him because many many times when i could not carry on, on my own strength, i managed to pulled through.

I think He's an imposter, if you want to read the Bible in a literal sense. I do not think He is eternal or omnipotent. He may live much longer than you or I. He may have much more power than you or I ... and in the perspective of Biblical writers, His powers may have seemed omnipotent and His lifespan may have semed eternal ... but I'm not buying that part.
Dan-o, you sound like a Gnostic. JHVH was actually evil, only thought he was really God.

Questions You Could NEVER Ask Your Elders
by minimus injwd is great for giving us the opportunity to ask questions and get answers to things that you could never ask in a kingdom hall.
what are some questions that are simply taboo amongst the "friends"?

Who is the Faithful and Discrete Slave?
by Etude inrecently, i've had memories about that topic, which i had suppressed for a long time.
my original question came up when i encountered a few members of the "anointed" in my congregation (we're talking almost 30 years ago).. there was one sister who partook of the "emblems" who had come from cuba.
i learned from her that her health was frail because she had smuggled some expensive jewelry in a condom and stuck it up her colon.

What they DON'T dare mention is that Paul had to visit that "first century governing body" and straighten them out!
Where is that in the Bible?Isn't that 1 Cor.? It may be before this chapter, but starting with chapter 5 I believe. But I don't believe it was any "governing body" just the individual congregations.

Did You Usually Feel Guilty While A JW?
by minimus inmy 79 year old mom that has every ailment known to man was going to the bookstudy this afternoon because she felt "guilty" for not going the last couple of meetings due to illness.
i told her it was 95 degrees outside and asked her not to go since she has difficulty breathing.
she decided to do it anyway.

Most of the time. Guilty about the "bad" thoughts I had. Guilty of the subversive thoughts I had that not all worldy people were bad. Guilty of the questions I wanted to ask, but did not dare. I felt guilty that I didn't put my all into the field service or into preparation for the talks. Guilty that I should feel love and kindness and understanding, but somehow did not, that perhaps I just wasn't "getting it".
Then, when I finally dropped out, the guilt intensified greatly. My mother would cry that she wouldn't see me in the New Order. I had horrid dreams and even waking visions of Armageddon and all the people around me being horribly destroyed. I felt guilty, oh yes.
Now I just feel guilty to myself for not following my own guided path sooner, which I knew deep inside was the right one to follow.

Because he answers my prayers when I really need him! (action = results, prayer being the action, results is the answer you get)
I once dated a girl who was a Wiccan. She used this same logic to prove her faith. She still lived at home with her parents. She had very little money. One night we were going to go out. She burned a green candle, performed her little "spell", and then asked her mom for some money. When her mom gave her the money, she claimed this was proof that her "spell" worked.
The power of suggestion and of belief are very powerful indeed.
Her belief in the mother goddess Gaia was supported by (action = results, spell-casting being the action, results is the answer you get)
