does anyone remember this game from (i think) the early '80s?
it's a role playing game of some sort that included some violent imagery or something.. i remember jws (and the media, come to think of it) making a big, big deal of it.
something like it was demonized or made kids murder people.

The Lord of the Rings book trilogy was a knockoff of D&D? I'm afraid it was the other way around. The books predate Gary Gygax's creation by some years. His elf race was based entirely on the elf race from The Lord of the Rings. Prior to LOTR, elves were generally considered more like Keebler elves than the tall, waifish creatures of today's fantasy genre.

The first probably 10 times I heard it I couldn't listen without crying.

i wanted to share this recent incident and it really pi$$es me off.
i called my grandfather yesterday who is a believing but inactive jw due to health reasons.
he is 83 and in very poor health and is alone since his wife died 3 years ago.

I'm sorry to hear that your grandfather is being treated with less than real love by the congregation. My retired father stays home with my mother, who has been battling cancer for years now. He does the best he can to take care of her and still make the meetings. No one ever comes to visit from the congregation other than only occasionally, during service. I'm sure that when my mother passes, it will be even more infrequent.
I feel your pain, and I really, really understand the anger you're feeling about this.

So, you hold all the exact beliefs as the JWs, except for the one about disfellowshipping? Don't you wonder why you hold exactly the same beliefs?
Many, many of the JW teachings are simply not biblical. If you only read the Watchtower and Awake! magazines and the scriptures you're told to read in the context of those magazines, your mind is programmed to believe exactly as they teach, right or wrong. Try forgetting, just for a while, what you believe and read the bible, even if it's the New World Translation (which is badly mis-translated) with no pre-conceived ideas about what is being conveyed.

I will NEVER leave the truth. I have realized that the people do not practice what is being taught to them by the FS. Some do.
Defd. You do realize of course that just your being here belies your being an upstanding JW. You are cohorting with apostates and unbelievers, which is very, very against WTS doctrine. If you are baptised, and you are caught here, you will likely be disfellowshipped. In that case, you would have no choice in the matter. They would boot you out with a quickness.
Many of us weren't given much of a choice, you see.
