It is sad that rather than be moved by the logic of the argument you provided, your brother acted exactly as your essay predicted, and had you vilified for your belief no longer aligning with his.

The college newspaper article from 1989 that got me kicked, at last
by Suraj Khan inmany months ago, i shared the experience of my removal from jehovah's witnesses.
to quickly recap, i had faded from meetings as an unbaptized publisher starting at about age 14 and had later decided to attend college against the wishes of my family.
as i liked to write stories, i sought a job at the college newspaper and became a columnist.. i brought some of my newspapers home during the winter break of my sophomore year, the one time i visited my parents during college.

A child that DIDN'T want to die ... a blood experience you won't read in Awake! or on JW.ORG
by wannabefree inwhile doing work for a client in her office recently, we got into a light discussion about religion.
she knew i was one of jehovahs witnesses as our business relationship started while i was still a loyal and believing jw.
anyway, i said something that she knew didnt quite fit and she said ... i thought you were one of jehovahs witnesses ... i shared my story ... she felt comfortable to confide in me a story as to why, even though she has had dealings with jehovahs witnesses who she thinks are good people, she would never even consider listening to them about their religion.. i asked her if she would write it down for me so that i could share ... she agreed.. this is her experience.. .

Tragic.
I wonder why the courts did not step in and take action... ?
It could be because it was back in 1980.

Farkel, I'm curious why you believe he's a liar.
I have to agree with Farkel. There is no way that with the way SBF reasons, and what he has written here in the past, that he thinks the Watchtower teaches the truth. It is just attention grabbing. And it worked. I doubt I would get 13 + pages written if i said I was going back.
Or as Farkel wrote, he is "nuts", and has come off his medication. But I never got that impression in the past.

Ran into a witnessing table at the park today
by confusedandalone ini just got in from my daughters homecoming(she is a cheerleader and these guys make a huge deal out of this stuff).

What a joke. The average hours or preaching has risen over the last few years, and now these table and trolleys becomes more common I expect it will raise even further, but with even less conversions per hour.

Awake! January 2014 - Which 'basic' kind are humans?
by bats in the belfry ingod did not make life in a simple form and allow it to evolve into more complex forms.
instead, he created basic kinds of complex plants and animals, which then reproduced according to their kinds.
( genesis 1:11, 21, 24 ) this process, which continues today, has resulted in the earth being filled with the same kinds of life that god originally created.. the bible does not specify how much variation can occur within a kind, as might result when animals within a kind interbreed and adapt to their environment.

What they don't mention is that ALL the kinds alive today had to fit on Noah's Ark. That severely limits the number of kinds, and requires rapid evolution within the kinds for this vague concept to hold true.

How I recently handled JWs at my door
by Christian guy inthe jws stopped by my house a couple weeks ago on a saturday morning.
i knew that with others most likely waiting for them out in the car they probably did not then have much time to engage in any serious conversation.
so i let them talk while i feigned interest in what they had to say.

Great reasoning. It doesn't sound apostate, so they cannot dismiss it as such. The Christian Good News was about Christ and the heavenly hope, the JW message is about Jehovah and an earthly hope. I never realised that as a JW, and would have been intrigued if someone had raised that with me.

If you want to show a JW some of the older publications from a non-apostate and 'safe' website..
by The Quiet One in"it is appreciated that these documents do not reflect the current understanding of the bible enjoyed by jehovah's witnesses, and for up-to-date information the reader is encouraged to visit the official site of the watchtower bible and tract society.".

If other people like to join other groups or religions, so be it. I was happy to join the modern day witnesses. I think such choices are a personal and private matter and i dont feel the urge nor obligation to explain my those here on this forum.
There is the conundrum. You have joined a religion that is diametrically opposed to such comments. You may feel able to build a belief system that incorporates your own ideas with those provided by the Governing Body. But what of those that you convert? If you have family, what of any children that you have? They will know they have no choice in leaving without devastating consequences. They will be indoctrinated to believe that they have no choice if they wish for salvation.

Simply because Russell is not important to me or to the JW's. He was the one who started the process and we thank him for that. Its great to know that there is no trinity,.. no immortality of the soul and no Hell etc etc.
emeth - That is an unusal comment to make if you have all the historical publications and know of the Watchtower history.
Russell started the process in the same way any self opinionated person starts a religion. He is important, because without him there would not be the JW religion. Understanding that some random guy starts a religion with a lot of incorrect doctrine that changes at the whim of its latest governing body is the first step in realising that it is just another religion.
Secondly, it is not because of Russell that you think there is no trinity, no hell, no immortal soul. Russell took those ideas from the Adventist movement, and you could join other off shoots of that Adventist movement and believe those same things.

Snare - I went to a couple of meetings having had TTAT made evident by research, but I tried to go back and see how I felt. It just didn't work anymore, the placebo was known walking through the door of the KH and you can't un-know what you have learned.
Exactly. SBF's ideas were too extremely philosophical to even accept basic reality that most JWs and exJWs accept. He could never sit through a meeting without wishing his life would end, or mocking every speaker.
