I think there is a definite effect. In the last ten years since the Internet the growth rate has slowed dramatically. In 2005 1.2 billion hours of Witnessing led to a net increase of only 82,000 publishers.
My website is just one of many, and in eight months it has just had its 10,000th unique visitor.

Are Internet Apostates making the tower wobble?
by unclebruce inyaddayadda has an interesting post about us taking the fight directly back to the congregations.
all fine and dandy if you can stomach that type of thing.
i on the other hand think internet apostates should continue doing what they do best (and most enjoy).

Who did Russell get his anti Trinity doctrine from?
by jwfacts ina lot of russell's doctrines were taken from the adventists.
however, seventh day adventists worship the trinity, so i am wondering who russell took his anti trinity doctrine from.
christadelphians started in the mid 1800's, was it from them?

Has the Watchtower ever claimed to be inspired?
by jwfacts in.
does anyone know if the watchtower has ever claimed to be inspired?
i know that they claim to be directed by holy spirit, which means the same as being inspired, but have they ever used the word inspired?

Some great answers. So many terms they use that mean inspired, like 'God's channel of communication' that I can believe they did not slip up just once and actually say what they mean, 'we are inspired'.
Did they ever say 'inspired' in old mags? Rutherford was arrogant enough to have said as much in the early 1920's.
Great experience coffee. Similiar to my jc. They can't answer the questions, then try to make it imply that there is something wrong with me for asking intelligent questions.

The answers are a classic example of a JW answering everything from the premise that the WTS is right, and so finding an answer or 'excuse' for each question that fits with current Watchtower teaching.
Doctrine can be argued endlessly, hence 30,000 Christian sects. i.e. Q. But the bible says the earth will be burned with fire. A. Thats figurative.
How do you resolve it? By realising discussing doctrine with a JW is pointless until they realise that the WTS can not be trusted. To do that a JW needs to look at the history of the WTS, the significant changes in teaching, and the large number of inaccurate information presented in the Watchtower. Only then will they open their mind to think about the other side of the doctrinal story.
I wrote http://www.jwfacts.com/index_files/5min.htm (How to find truth in 15 minutes) to help point a person in the correct direction to start with.
An approach to take if a discussion is going in circles around doctrine would be, "we seem to be getting no where, we both have many scriptures to prove our doctrines are right, so how do you know Holy Spirit is directing the WTS apart from doctrine". They will give answers about
1; preaching (everyone preaches, how else do other religions grow)
2. blood (that is one of the most hypocritical teachings they have and JWs can easily be made to look totally stupid over it)
3. use of Jehovahs name (they will be shocked to know it NEVER appears in a single New Testament document)
4. Love (every religion says that)
5. War (nice, but a number of smaller religions dont go to war)
Then hone in on their changing teachings, pagan beliefs such as pyramids, failed prophecy, lies about blood transfusion risks and earthquakes, stance with the UN. Show them that they match Lifton's identifiers of a cult.
Only once they realise they may not have truth will they be prepared to see that there may be other points of view about doctrine.

The persons that had brought you into the WTS
by greendawn inafter the wts became a troublesome entity for you, how did you feel about the specific jws that persuaded you to come into the org which subsequently caused you so much heartache?
did you confront them on the issue?

THE PURPLE TRIANGLE! Would you force children to watch it?
by vomit inone of my worst memorys as a child, just before my mother was bapthised was when her study conductor had the idea of everybody watching the "purple triangle" together.
i was about 11, i didnt want to watch it from the outset and a few minutes in, i really didnt want to watch it.
in my nature i hate anything to do with violence, 20 years later i still feel watching that at such a young age does not build positive effects.

If she is popular now for having a nice personality that won't change even if she is on a scholarship. All children will get picked on sometimes, but the geeky ones that get picked on regularly is for their personality, not their brains.
There were a bunch of JW kids at my school that got picked on for being weird. I was on a scholarship and everyone knew I was a JW but did not get picked on. One time a person started making fun of me because I had knocked on his door one Saturday and others in the class stood up for me and told him to shut up.
