Hi Joe, great to see your thread. You must have worked with my father Terry Grundy. He was a CO in WA for a while in the 90s.
It is interesting when you say you were not disfellowshipped for writing about the Bible and that "The Society only takes action if you challenge the organisation or its doctrines."
When I was reported to the CO, it was decided a judicial committee could not be held over my lack of belief in the Bibles inspiration because "Non-belief is not a judicial matter." CO-report-marked-s-303-form I was stunned to read that, it is so counter-intuitive. Surely if you don't believe in the Bible, you don't believe in the organisation. The more I burrowed into Watchtower doctrine, the more strange it all is.

Does anyone have the Awake! January 1 1989? - 20th Century Quote
by jwfacts inthe awake!
january 1 1989 contains the quote on page 12 "he was laying a foundation for a work that would be completed in our 20th century.
" this was later changed in the bound volume and on the cd library to "in our day.".

Thanks for those that got in contact with scans, and a relief to know there are still originals of these good hands.
Yes, of course it was the Watchtower not the Awake, not sure what I was thinking.
Cappytan - But video of a physical magazine or bound volume being opened and then showing the passage has more effect, in my opinion.
Great idea. Part of the reason for this thread was the copies I have are not great quality, and a JW may try to insist they were altered. Filming opening the magazine and then the bound volume would be even more convincing.

This is a piece of Watchtower history that is important to preserve. I would love to have a copy, or even a photo of the quote, as additional verification to the couple of scans that are online.
So if anyone has one or can get their hands on it, please make sure to keep it, or pass it my way.

said I need to trust her, I do trust her as she is now she's an amazing women, but will she change if she goes back is the question, running out of time.
She really is manipulating you, whether she even realises or not. She asks to be trusted but gives no reason for such trust, in fact gives every reason not to trust her in this regard. Even if she sincerely believes at this moment that she will not go back, there is a good chance she will, as by the comments that she is making she still believes the doctrine.
Reading COC is not about her not liking JWs, it is about being aware of the history and practices of the religion, and why so much of what she believes is not true. She can read it and continue to like JWs, but just come to understand why what they preach is wrong.
Even if she does not go back, her worries about Armageddon will infect your children. Her refusal to have birthdays has no scriptural basis, will be unfair on the children and a cause of tension. People raised as JWs carry huge emotional scars and you never know what else will raise its head over time.
IMO if you say that it is important to you that she read COC before progressing forward, and she is not prepared to, then it says a lot about you stand in relation to the religion in her mind.
One other thing that is concerning is this comment you made.
But she said there s a non- Jw at her work she likes who apparently ticks all the boxes!
Are you sure that she is the one for you and that you really should trust her?

I told my exMormon friend about this teaching. He thought it was hilarious, as he said no one cares less about JWs, why would governments turn on them? -

JW Cart - Historical Photo - 1
by Esse quam videri inwith all the buzz about the jw public witnessing cart it has escaped the notice of all but the most studious researchers that the wt carts were actually started by pastor charles taze russell.
a careful examination of one of the most famous photographs of the 1906 san fransisco fire, caused by the preceding earthquake, reveals a wt cart.
further investigation brought the researchers attention to bible student sister myrtle jenson, shown on the left of the photograph, and facing away from the camera, looking down sacramento street.

I have read endless experiences like yours. As soon as there are children the inactive JW partner gets all concerned about the upbringing of the children and Armageddon and goes back to the religion.
Your girlfriend may think she mean what she says, but if she does not know why Watchtower is a cult, then she is always going to be vulnerable to slipping back in. Before you get married or have children I strongly advise insisting that she research the religion and its history, and explain why she knows how it is not a good environment for children. If she refuses, or cannot take criticism of the religion, then you will know she is still suffering the indoctrination and vulnerable to joining again. Triggers will be some tragedy in her life, or having children.
