When I saw his name in that quote I thought it must be a different person but it is the same Dr Berman that is a well know apostate. http://creation.mobi/dr-jerry-bergman
That is terribly poor research on the part of the Awake! Hilarious.

this is from a blog, "news from me" that i read fairly regularly.
mark evanier is, among other things, a comic book writer (co-writer for "groo-the wanderer), a television writer, a great raconteur, and was a close person friend of jack kirby, one of the world's greatest comic book artists.he got an email from a jw trying to explain why they come to his door.evanier's answer is well thought out, and should explain to even the densest j-dub why people really don't like being bothered.
maybe his correspondent will take it to heart, but probably not.
Excellent. Lot of great points. I particularly like this one.
this really got to me today at the wt study.. i am not ashamed to admit, i am part of that "generation".. you get one role of the dice in this life, you got to take what you can now, in order to have a good quality life later.. i agree, we need to help and show love to our fellow man.
but, not when this becomes the priority above our own needs, wants and aspirations.. welcome to "generation me" wt, this is my time.. peace out..
...that only people from those countries can lead 'his organization'.. a few years ago, one conversation stopper people would often bring up to jws in my country is: 'you guys are an american religion'.
the standard answer we were formatted to give to shoot that down was that "god does not favor any nationality over others.
however some countries do possess some advantages needed for the advancement of the divine work.
That is true of Christianity in general. "God so loved the world", but salvation comes from accepting Christ. Yet half the world know nothing of Christ.
But I digress. Your comment is very valid. There are around 200,000 JWs in Asian countries such as Philippines and Japan, over 300,000 in Nigeria and almost 800,000 in Brazil. Why are those countries not represented on the GB?
call me crazy, but i love to watch seminary classes when sharp teachers are in charge of the instruction.. in the following video, the teacher really nails jehovah's witnesses on john 1:1 with utter simplicity.. begin at 1 hour and 20 minutes in.. i've never seen or heard of this before.. .

Once you admit it is "a god" in a qualitative sense, isn't the debate over? We are then saying the Word was everything Theos is in qualities/attributes.
MMM
Yes, JW's make a straw man by claiming the "a god" somehow solves their issues with this scripture. Admitting the Word is a God still makes their religion polytheistic, which is the issue that the Trinity sets out to solve.

joe slaiman and his wife jean were in the travelling work in australia throughout the 90's... ( i may have spelt the name incorrectly).
anyone remember them?
they were very well liked by many of the brothers and sisters.. i wonder what happened to him?
Hi Joe, great to see your thread. You must have worked with my father Terry Grundy. He was a CO in WA for a while in the 90s.
It is interesting when you say you were not disfellowshipped for writing about the Bible and that "The Society only takes action if you challenge the organisation or its doctrines."
When I was reported to the CO, it was decided a judicial committee could not be held over my lack of belief in the Bibles inspiration because "Non-belief is not a judicial matter." CO-report-marked-s-303-form I was stunned to read that, it is so counter-intuitive. Surely if you don't believe in the Bible, you don't believe in the organisation. The more I burrowed into Watchtower doctrine, the more strange it all is.
the awake!
january 1 1989 contains the quote on page 12 "he was laying a foundation for a work that would be completed in our 20th century.
" this was later changed in the bound volume and on the cd library to "in our day.".
Thanks for those that got in contact with scans, and a relief to know there are still originals of these good hands.
Yes, of course it was the Watchtower not the Awake, not sure what I was thinking.
Cappytan - But video of a physical magazine or bound volume being opened and then showing the passage has more effect, in my opinion.
Great idea. Part of the reason for this thread was the copies I have are not great quality, and a JW may try to insist they were altered. Filming opening the magazine and then the bound volume would be even more convincing.
