You could say that about any religion. Jesus indicated he would return 2000 years ago, and didn't, yet Christianity survives. Humans are emotionally unintelligent enough that religion, include Watchtower's peculiar version, will survive for the foreseeable future.

Aren't you a bit amazed that the WTS/JWS is still around ?
by Finkelstein ini know i am, to me its a bit of a peculiar anomaly that the wts is still around and functioning in reflection of its decades and now complete century that the wts has been bullshitting to people .
organizations like the church of god have shrunk dramatically from its heyday of the 1980's, this too was another organization that spread and grew by publishing its own magazine proclaiming a armageddon soon doctrine and its main publication was called " the truth " .
i'm guessing some of this has to do with the fact that people who get lured into this cult aren't aware of its past, its doctrines, the people who started it and so forth.

"Forced" study with an Elder - The first question i will pose, help appreciated.
by CitizenofEarth inhello folks.
as some of you might know my dad couldnt keep quiet about my view of the world, so i have been "forced" to study with an elder.
otherwise i would be dragged to questioning, which is to much pressure for a young inexperienced person like me.

https://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/144000.php
has some figures to show that there have already been more than 144,000.
You could run through the scripture being figurative and that there seems to have need more than 144,000, and then ask "when do you think there will be new light and the doctrine be changed to being a figurative number?" Then when it happens the elder will recall what you said and remember you, maybe even as a prophet.

Blood problems in Italy
by OrphanCrow inin february 2017, the european association of jehovah's witnesses made a "submission to un human rights committee subsequent to the adoption of the list of issues on the sixth periodic report of italy".. the 119th session of the human rights committee is currently underway - the dates are march 6 - march 29.. the wts has been trying to get "intesa" status in italy for decades and this latest submission to the un highlights the problems the jws are encountering in italy concerning the blood taboo.. this link will take you to a downloadable word document that is the wt's submission being considered:.

23676 of 2008: mr grassato (one of jehovah’s witnesses) was unconscious when admitted to the hospital.

But it should also be looked at as a slippery slope, if a government can tell you what medical procedures you should or should not accept then that is when a problem does come in. It does apply to doctors as well. It is your body you get to decide what medical treatments you allow and which you deny.
You are using two classic Rhetorical fallacies (slippery slope and strawman), and your argument is totally misguided. The government of Italy is not deciding what treatments can be denied, it is saying that a person has a right to informed choice, something violated by Watchtower through forcing the refusal of blood by theologically incorrect doctrine, and misinformation on blood.

Australian Congregations announce Child Safeguarding Policy is available upon request
by wifibandit inthis week all congregations in australia have been instructed to make the following announcement:.
if a member of the congregation would like a copy of the child safeguarding policy of jehovah’s witnesses in australia, please see the coordinator of the body of elders or the secretary.. .
childsafeguardingpolicy-eau.pdf.

This is terribly disappointing. The announcement that will go over most followers heads, and those that ask will be immediately flagged to be watched by the elders, since showing any knowledge of the ARC is going to been seen as potentially an apostate.

Business Slow at JW Literature Trolley
by Athanasius inyesterday i stopped at a local shopping center to pick up a few things.
i arrived at 9:45 am and two jw ladies had already set up their literature trolley and had opened for business.
but i didn't see anyone stopping by and taking advantage of their free literature.

So, pointing to the other JW literature trolley only thirty feet away, I said: "Looks like you have some competition."
To which the JW lady explained: "They have Spanish literature. We also have Spanish literature, so please take what you like."Classic, and their response was spoken like the true sales people they are.

Is ignorance an excuse?
by stuckinarut2 ini have always maintained that i hold nothing personally against individual witnesses, even those that have actively slandered our name and reputation based on the actions of some individuals.. i have often said that all these ones, (even the ones spreading gossip), are victims of the culture of the organization, and the directions of the gb.. but recently i have been rethinking this, and wonder if ignorance is really an acceptable excuse?.
i mean, with so much information now readily available about the society, its origins, its scandals, issues and conduct, is it simply ok for a witness to remain wilfully ignorant about the organization that dictates every aspect of their lives?.
is ignorance an excuse?.

River flowing from the garden of Eden
by joey jojo inhey there.. if this point has been covered before please forgive me.. i have had the principles of noahs flood used by jw's to encourage me to attend meetings recently and this has got me musing about the flood....again.. genesis states that a river flowed from eden and branched out into four rivers, two of which being the tigris and the euphrates.. heres the baffling part; if it had never rained before, how is it that rivers existed before the flood?!!?.
a brief google search tells us that the euphrates begins its journey as snow melt and rain ( as most rivers do) in mountains in turkey.. ecc chapter 1 mentions the water cycle and describes the rivers flowing into the sea but the sea not becoming full.
how did it work pre-flood?

I have had the principles of Noahs flood used by JW's to encourage me to attend meetings recently and this has got me musing about the flood....again.
Depending on what outcome you are after, you could through Noah back at the person and say that any religion that teaches Noah's flood as literal is not the truth and hence you won't be going back. Then go over the endless reasons why it is impossible.
Genesis states that a river flowed from Eden and branched out into four rivers, two of which being the Tigris and the Euphrates.
Good point that there could be no mighty rivers without rain, something I had never thought of before. Further is that the Tigris and Euphrates existed according to Genesis before the flood, and afterward. A global flood, particularly the Watchtower one that completely changed the landscape and pushed Mount Everest 9km high, would have erased these rivers. The fact they remained after the flood shows the flood was just local, or figurative.

O’Brien said hundreds were reported, although not by the organisation because it was left to the elders handling the case or the parents.
I am confused about this and wonder if this is exactly what O'Brien said. That is what Terry said. I see this as trying to distance the organisation from any legal liability and put in on the shoulders of the elders. Further, whilst he makes it seems elders had been left with the responsibility to report, the reality is that they never did, but left it up to the parents; in fact, regularly discouraged parents from reporting as well.
