I can make people laugh. I have the ability to talk to complete strangers with out being shy and I have been told by several people that I'm very nice.

Who here gives to the homeless?

i'm interested in how many here give to the homeless, or any kind of charity, since that was not a part of the witness experience.

i have to admit that my heart is hard ...

When I was younger my mom and I went through some very hard times, during the 1994 earthquake we lost our home and had no place to go. I was only about nine or ten and still remember what it feels like to not know where you will be spending the night. It wasn't that my mom was lazy or a drug addict or anything like that but she just could not make due with the funds she had. Everytime I see a homeless person I remember that I too was in that situation, you have no idea how much some people helped us it was the kindness of strangers that helped us make it and I will always be greatful to those that provided us with their homes and food.

A few years ago when my sister was about five we began to notice that we where running out of food really fast, it seems like we had to go to the grocery every other day well one day we where out side playing baseball and see a homeless man go by, my sister called him and he came over to say hello to her, she then intruduced him to us as her "friend". Well we figured out why we had to go to the store more often, my sister had been giving food to this man for several weeks when she saw him behind our building looking for soda cans to recycle. Sure maybe this was not the safest thing for a five year old to do and my mom told her so but my sister insisted that we give her friend some food. We did so for aout two more months and then one day he just did not show up anymore. We never saw him again.

A while back we had gone to a doctors appointment and stoped at a Del Taco to get something to eat, a few tables away was a homeless man, he was just sitting there drinking some water, he got up and asked my mother for some change to buy coffe my mother told him she didn't have change but that she would get him his coffe, she went up and ordered our food she also got the man his coffee and some lunch and gave him the change she got back after paying, my mos frinde who was with us asked my mom why she had given the "bum" money he said that this man was probably a drug user who didn't want to work. My mom looked at her friend and said " Maybe he is but I don't know that for certain, I can't sit here and eat while there is some one in the same room thats hungry". Thats what I always carry with me, I don't know what other people are going through and I have no right to judge any one. I know that we had hard times and made it because some one helped us instead of judging our situation.

What's Your View of Spanking (Children)?

Whose children ? Honestly where I work I see so many parents that can not control their children. They run, they scream they leave gum on the carpet and nothing happens to them. So I am not opposed to someone spanking their child if that is the only way to get the child to behave.

Children or no Children?

the jws used to always have discussions about whether to have children "in this system of things".. i used to always think it was pathetic to avoid having kids because of the so-called impending armageddon.. however.

despite the fact that i've always wanted kids, right now i'm not so sure.

just look at the things happening in the world.

Well I'm only 21 so I can say that at this point in my life I would not want children. I'm really not even sure that I would want children in the future but not because of the state the world is in simply because I can't imagine having to take care of some one else.

When you think about it have things ever been peaceful on earth? I mean there have always been wars and people hurting other people but we all still move on. Yes there are bad people ouit there but as you said sometimes you meet someone that you are in awe of. along with all the bad stuff there is always good. I always think of Sept.11 and what happened that day. It really showed how evil some people are but at the same time we heard stories of people helping one another and showing love and compasion.

The beauty of childern is that they bring hope.

how much money did you give the borg???

just curious....because i left before being baptized, my parents handled all the donations and i never gave them a penny.

how many posters on this board actually gave large or not so large sums of money to the jws, either directly, or as 'gifts' to pioneers, cos, etc??

Bad Undercover bad. Shame on you!!!! Just kidding.

Honestly I don't think I have given more than $20. I began to study when I was 14 or so and I didn't have much money,I always felt bad asking my mom for money because she is a single parent and I understood that money was not always available. I would not have felt right taking money from her that could be used to pay bills to donate to the Society, I figured that Jehovah would understand.

About a year ago there was a special needs talk about donations and how the brothers and sisters had neglegted this loving provision from Jah. The brother went on and on for about 20min, evedently the CO had gone over the books with the accounting servant and they realized that 90% of the congregation was not donating money, they recommended that everyone donate at least one dollar at every meeting. I never did. I have always believed that people should give because they want to and because they can not because some one is telling them to.
