valis: "astroturf, which is basically fake grass over concrete..."
There's a newer 'fake grass' which is much improved and I recall reading that a lot of players actually prefer it to real turf. Forget the name, though, or who's playing on it already.

Buster: "Yup, I think NE will seem more vulnerable this year, especially early in the season with new coaching staff, thinness at ILB, and a brutal early schedule."
They are not in a very hospitable division if they turn out to be more vulnerable; there's really no team in it that can't beat any of the others even amidst a dismal season otherwise (Miami beating NE late last season, for instance).
Still, they always seem to remain composed and play well in big games, so even if they struggle, if they get into the playoffs at all, they'll have a shot. -

"Pitt: I agree, they get to the AFC game, but lose to NE"
I was really pulling for Pitt last year in the AFC title game, but I didn't think they stood much of a chance without a break or two AND a poor game from the Pats. NE has been just too smart, disciplined and relentless. They look so beatable, yet keep winning. I'm so hoping they fall a notch or two this year - and there's some reason to believe they could. -

"When did a town last have the World Baseball and World Football Champs at the same time?"
Might have been done since this, but NY in 1969 had the Jets and Mets. (Granted, it's easier to pull off when you have two teams in each league.)
Isn't a Red Sox championship supposed to be a sign of the final days? -

"I sort of hate the Pats because of Belichik who while he was in Cleveland was the biggest ass on the face of the planet, which is sad becasue I do respect the way the Pats have gone about winning."
I have no memory of him in Cleveland, not being a Browns fan, so I just tend to hate the Pats on principle. However, what's worse over the past two seasons was coming to realize how and why they continued winning, and how at least for a while (and maybe still) Belichik was on a level above other coaches. Of course, being a Fins fan, pretty much everybody's coach was on a level above mine the past few seasons. All coaches know X's and O's, some take it a step up by knowing how to manage and motivate pro players, but Belichik has both of those plus a better understanding of how to win in the NFL with the salary cap. (He studied economics, and it's paid off in unexpected ways.)
So I can't really hate them thoroughly since, like you, I respect the way they have been succeeding. -

B.Dog,
I'm thrilled with Ricky's return, and with Saban. Remains to be seen how Saban does of course, but he has pro experience and seems to have the same approach to the game as Belichik (the two are friends). Ricky handled everything last year really poorly, but those who claim he can't return to form after a year off are mostly wishful thinkers supporting division rivals. Whether he does, or if there will be any blocking for him (last year was so pathetic) are open questions. Ricky and the rookie Brown in the backfield could turn out scary for opponents, if other pieces come together. My best guess is they will be around .500 and miss the playoffs, but at least be competitive week-to-week, with at least enough chance to surprise to keep the season interesting.
Talesin,
I've often wondered what I'd choose, offered the hypothetical proposition that my team would make the Super Bowl four years straight and lose them all. Given the changes since then to encourage parity, it's a record that's likely to stand for a looooooooong time. But if it had to happen to somebody, I can't think of a nicer group than Bills fans. heheh.... -

Superstitious JW Nonsense
by 95stormfront inone of my jw relatives was relating to me another one of their superstitious nonsense stories designed to demonize every damn thing that doesn't fall into an approved wt list.
she was telling me about a her friend, who upon cleaning a relatives house, found a voodoo doll with a prayer to demons written on paper that it took an hour to burn.
she also related to me how in the hour it took to burn the demon paper prayer, everyone around them getting sick and falling into convulsions.. i guess she was a little perturbed that i was .

"Ok, has anyone here ever had something unexpained happen to them or people they know who whould never lie to them??"
Nothing 'demonic' but two similar stories:
A close friend had a tire blow out or go flat while driving down a city street. Later that day he found out that a friend of his had died at (or around) that same time. Easily dismissed as coincidence, but I must admit tires don't fail very often these days - it wasn't as if he'd noticed in hindsight that 'the sun suddenly came out' or 'a bird flew by' or something more common.
Different friend, similar story, but slightly harder to dismiss as nothing: My best friend awoke late one night to the phone ringing. When he answered it, there was nobody there (dial tone, rather than a call with nobody speaking). As one might normally do when being woken up in the middle of the night, he'd noticed the time. Later that day he learned that his cousin, who had been dying of cancer, had in fact died at nearly precisely the same time as the phone-call-that-wasn't. (Since he was hospitalized, with family around him, they were clear on the time.) My friend isn't superstitious, religious, or intrigued by the 'paranormal.' He assured me that his sense of the phone ringing was quite vivid and clear. (Yes, he asked whether anyone from the family had started to call him with the news but hung up when they noticed the time. They asssured him nobody had.) -

Odd, I can pick the cubes but then I get an error page after.
Anyway, if you liked that you might enjoy this: a bit more involved, but everyone I know who's taken it has been startled (or at least intrigued) by the results:

Why do/don't you believe in God
by LouBelle innow for all the scientists out there this is not a question of proof or anything along those lines.
for my part i choose to believe in a god because i honestly believe there is one (though i did start doubting for a little while) i've always felt that there was more to our existance on earth - and that doesn't stem from me wanting to live forever or as a spirit, as i don't even know if that will happen.
i also believe in him because many many times when i could not carry on, on my own strength, i managed to pulled through.
