i hope that some of you lurkers out here really take a look at some of the thread in this section of the board.
this awake magazine says not one thing about how families are asked to trust their elders and how these very elders were and are abusing their children.
it mentions nothing about watching out for these trusted men in the congregations.............oh it brings out the internet, other family members and fathers and males in particular.. it will tell you how much your child needs to do to prevent something like this from happening.
Something else that just came to mind is that the Awake is primarily written for a non-JW audience. I challenge the WT to write an article in the insiders WT magazine where they acknowledge that this is happening INSIDE the organization. The cowardly bastards will probably never do it. Or if they do there will be some spin to neutralize any appearance of a threat.

I just finished reading this and as has been mentioned it's not all BS. I even noted the text from Leviticus 18:6 on any relative laying bare nakedness. That is actually something that I had not noticed before.
That having been said I do believe as has been mentioned many times that it doesn't alert readers to threats inside the congregation or for that matter even from parents. It may attempt to indirectly when it mentions that an abuser can be anyone the child knows and trusts. But that is not enough for some trusting JW who believes that nothing bad can actually happen unchecked in the congregation.
The part about the last days is just plain pathetic, as if there were no child predators in ye olde days.

Instead, they use this world-wide problem as another proof of the end right around the corner and
never address any problem within the "Christian congregations."

Okay, why bother reporting it to the authorities from a phone booth at all? I mean if no one knows who is reporting it because it's done anonymously, then why even do it? No one can prove they complied with the law or not.
Bluesapphire, you are so right. I imagine that they were going by some technicality where if two elders verify that the call was made it amounts to minimal notification. But Yes, this to me was the most egregious and disgusting part of their policy. WT often talks about not just following the letter of the law but it's spirit. They clearly don't give a damn about the spirit of the law here. And certainly if two elders were in on a lie, the police could never prove otherwise. But even more importantly what these documents show is what a lie J R Brown said when he claimed that WT is interested in protecting children. They are interested primarily in protecting themselves.

these sex laws have bothered me for some time.
until coming here i was unaware of all the pedophilia problems in the org.
the interesting thing about these two bible laws are that if a girl was engaged, and screamed during rape, the rapist only is executed.
The Bible is full of so much crap it's incredible. I say this because it is inconsistent, sanctioning behavior that it then condemns elsewhere. On the subject of pedophilia, it was an eye opener to realize that the Bible is silent on it. It spends a lot of time saying how you shouldn't lay bare the nakedness of your third cousin, but nothing on the nakedness of a child. Amazing.

not sure if this has been discussed, but i was recently told of a new arrangement for assembly speakers.
i was told that the body of elders can give the reccomendation for any brother to have a part on the assembly.
the excuse was to allow everyone the chance to teach, how loving of the gb.
This has been in place for at least a few years. When I was an acting PO I helped with some reccommendations. My name was put in the following year. It took WT moving the DC's to the small Assembly Halls and Bethelites leaving New York City for me to get any parts though.

i'm so drained emotionally from it but i did it.
i learned a few days ago through her ex worldly boyfriend that she had told him she tries to email me but i don't answer, she called me and i hung up (all things she has done tome in the past 9 months that i have been trying to get in touch with her).
she told him i had gone crazy and moved to italy and no one knew where i was and i was not talking to my jw mom anymore ( i moved to italy for almost 3 years to work, study and learn italian and my mom is not a jw!!!!!!
I understand how this feels as I am about to do something similar. I sincerely hope that she writes back.
