Growing up a Jehovah's Witness
by jwfacts ingrowing up a jw makes a person unique, long after you leave.
even though i strongly disagree with much of what i was taught, i still am tainted by my upbringing in that i think a thought and then correct myself with what i now should think (or visa versa, think something and then remember what i once would have thought).. even now that i am far removed from watchtower thinking, i still feel somewhat of an alien from those around me.
though i am loved at work, i feel they laugh at me more than they laugh with me.. for some time now, i have been meaning to chronograph the concepts that a witness child is indocrinated with to show just how damaging an upbringing it is.

I think it sums up my growing up as a witness from the age of 11 very, very well.
Thank you for your time and effort.

Is Having Children a Purely Selfish Act?
by ThomasCovenant inmany years ago a childless witness couple said to me that they didn't want any children.. we discussed some of the pros and cons of having them and then they said that they could only think of selfish reasons for having them.. i found it hard to argue against that.
not selfish in a nasty way of course but for the benefit of the parents nonetheless.. they now have two children.. what are the unselfish reasons for wanting children?.

Re Oompa
Glad you enjoyed Mr Deity. Try him over at www.crackle.com and just search 'Mr Deity'
I think there are more videos and better quality than at youtube. My brother told me about him a couple a years ago. I don't know how he found him but that's the beauty of the tinternet.
I think Mr Deity, like Farkel on this site, is excellent at showing up the silliness of some religious beliefs. Most people can laugh at it and then stop and think 'Yes but that's what I do think'
As regards my calculations. Well they are obviously not to be taken too literally, brother, as the day = 1000 years is currently an unproven mathematical constant and is very likely to remain so. But yes I did try working it out
Jesus life of about 33 years = 0.033 of 1000 years therefore 0.033 of a day is about 48 minutes.
Jesus in Sheol for 3 days = 0.00000821 of 1000 years therefore 0.00000821 of a day (consisting of 86400 seconds) is about 7/10ths of a second
So perhaps I was giving too much credit in saying 7 whole seconds. Good God, sometimes I blink my eyes for longer than he was dead.
The main point though is as Watson said
'I don't understand how a deity letting himself die, then resurecting himself is an equal or greater sacrifice than a man losing his life with no chance of forgiveness or resurection.'
This doesn't look to be a point that lovers of human sacrifice seem willing to address.
Thanks

Re MARY'S REPLY
Who can deny that the torture and death of Jesus as reported in the Gospels was an horrific way to go. For any 'normal' man (or woman) to willingly 'sacrifice' himself in this way on behalf of those he loved would truly be outstanding.
However, I cannot seem to accept that that it is the same scenario with a supposed spirit being taking the temporary form of a human male dying a horrible death knowing full well he's going to get brought back to his former life, if not actually a lot better off.
A man willingly giving up his life in total self annihilation for loved ones
does not equate ( in my limited personal experience)
to the 2nd in command of the universe temporarily giving up his stint as a human albeit a very painful and humiliating last couple of days of it.
No offence is meant to those who believe otherwise, I just can't see it myself.
Thanks

Throughout human history I assume there have been 'real' sacrifices for loved ones.
I got to thinking too that if 1 day is as a 1000 years then Little J was on earth for about the equivalent of 48 minutes of our time (helluva an ordeal)
and was dead for about 7 seconds.

Got a new Blackberry yesterday
by coffee_black inmy company just got many of us a new blackberry curve.
it will take me ages to understand all it can do... camera, video, email, internet, maps, contacts...sheesh..it goes on forever, not to mention the phone and instant messaging..... i keep pushing the wrong button when someone calls...so i disconnect... or get an email and think it's a phone call and try to answer it... and oh...the tiny tiny keypad!.
i'll catch on eventually.... all i can say is that technology has come a very long way!.

What a beaut of an article!
How come I allowed myself to go along with it for so long.
These 7 pages are enough to show anyone the idiocy of the WT.
Surely?
