  every once in a while i can get my mom to give me the latest on what's happening with the people i used to know and/or be friends with.

  she tells me they ask about me (yeah, right, why didn't they ask about me, or rather come talk to me, when i had stopped going to meetings before i got df'd?).

  Does he really know what he's letting himself in for? Maybe you could print up some of the life stories on this board and show them to him so he knows what to expect. I f you do go and yell "sucker", I'll be yelling it with you, and I live 5000 miles away. TP Barnum was soooo right, there really is one born every minute. P lease give him my condolences

  Are JW's Self-righteous?

  a good friend who is a police officer told me last night that he believes a lot of the jw's he has met through the years in his line of work are extremely self-righteous.

  i didn't have much of a reply but it did get me thinking about what he said.

  so, what do you guys think?

  I saw that smirk a lot when I first left, the if you don't come back you will die at armageddon look, but we'll be fine, we're still hanging in there. Now I'm da they don't look at me at all, but I bet some of em envy me in secret. I just hope I'm still around to see the self - righteous smirk wiped off all their faces

  i thought this would be a fun and mentally healthy question to ponder!

  i feel better already just to think of this possibility!

  for me, before giving away alot of it to charities i would first buy a couple of gorgeous houses strategically set in beautiful surroundings where i could travel throughout the year and avoid harsh winter temperatures.

  a good friend who is a police officer told me last night that he believes a lot of the jw's he has met through the years in his line of work are extremely self-righteous.

  How could we have been so stupid...... that's something I ponder on often, Honesty. But dubs can be very persuasive, especialy if you are a bit vulnerable, as I was when they contacted me - I'd just seen the end of a long relationship with someone I thought I might marry, and a few days later came the knock on the door. Also, when you preach you don't know its a lie, you find that out later, when you come to your senses and escape.

  for someone who was raised in the "truth" for 17 years it was a very hard and a very scary decision when my father finnally had the "you must choose a side of the fence" speech and when i chose not to do it anymore he flipped his lid and i so "tormented" by my decsion i latched on to "maryjane" to fill the "need".

  after living with my parents for two years and then on my own for two more years crying everynoght cause i was alone not knowing way i felt this way this way, i felt a spirtual need at 3:30am i drove to my dads house and beged him to let me came home because the "voices" were drivin me crazy and i needed "guidance" he said well get you a meeting with elders and a "bible study".

  so i move back in, had a talk with the elders where they used the bible to call me stupid and i went to there meeting where they used what i said in private and made a whole new talk based around it i broke down crying and prayed to god for the guidacne to make me strong and make the tears stop and the holy spirt led me to this site i moved in with my brother and told my parents i can know longer belive the "truth".

  I never gave it a lot of thought during the 15 years i was being spiritually poisoned to death...........neither did I Honesty during my 9 years of preaching crap, and that's the problem - as dubs we were so conditioned to believe this bullshit that telling others about it made us feel good, a job well done. Thank God i got out when I did

  named Unbaptized Publisher at the meeting last night...............

  last nite they announced i was an unbaptized publisher.

  everyone clapped and there was much congratulations from everyone after it was over.

  my girlfriend has never been happier.

  I was very conservative to start with, had real tunnel vision where the borg was concerned, didn't question anything, but the liberal side kind of crept up on me after a few run - ins with the elders over various "offences" like maintainig regular contact with my non - witness relatives (all my family are non - dub), my tastes in music (led zeppelin etc) and occasional nights out with my best friend before i became a dub. that's what got me thinking that being a jw maybe wasn't the best deal
